Karmazin V Spinks

Post by steve689 »

Suprised the big Russian lost a MD to Cory Spinks, it was in Spinks back yard but i expected Karmazin to beat him...any word on the fight? Was it a fair verdict and how did it pan out?

Apparently close but most neutral judges sided with Karmazin as I understand.

Not what I heard, although it was a close one. Most people I've spoken too thought Spinks won by a round or two.

Close fight, Karmazin was very inactive for first 5 rounds. Spinks was very sharp. After the 6th Karmazin won virtually every round, with Spinks literally running away in the 12th. Could of went either way, I scored it a draw live, tho' Kushler's BS 12th round scoring gave Spinks the fight.

Roman was complaining about the ref breaking them up too much once he got inside, can't say I disagree with him. Also Karma was gracious in defeat just smiling at result and Cory was ecstatic, crying deliriously. Rematch would be nice but not needed.

to me, this is depressing. karmazin's a very underrated fighter & - from what i've heard - anywhere else he could well have held onto his titles. now he's lost two, both debatable fights in his foe's hometown (lost to Castillejo in Spain, a few years back).

He owned the 12th round, and would've kept his titles on a draw if one of the judges had scored it as the other two had.

Roman can bounce back, as fellow 'who needs hims' Winky (v Vargas & Simon), McCallum (v Kalambay) can. If he actually gets any fights.

RKs best work comes out of clinches. He likes to pull off sneaky double/triple left hooks to body and head as he comes out the clinches. i hear the ref was intercepting that punch.

shame. considering Spinks' bad fade late, if Roman would've got some body work in early, he might've stopped him.

Yes, yet again another poor bit of officiating. From all accounts Karmazin easily won the 12th, and yet one of the judges hands the last round to Spinks, and therefore Karmazin loses his title.

Karmazin will probably find it hard to get back into the frame.

Maybe. Or maybe not. King may push him for one of the other titles. Spinks thinks he has loads of options. But he has to get real. DLH won't want to fight a spoiler who runs. Mayweather & Judah aren't light middles. That leaves Jose Rivera or...a Karmazin rematch.

Coming off the Ouma win, where he wiped the guy out, no one wanted to fight him. Roman looked poor in the first 1/2 v Spinks before taking over.

Spinks has a frustrating style and made Karmnazin come forward, like a plodding pressure fighter. Roman is really a patient counter puncher. No one else can go in & out like Spinks at 154. Ppl may be more willing to fight him, and may think he's not as good as he really is, and may be under the impression that Karmazin's a different style of fighter than he really is also. So he could get more opportunities, will ppl making the wrong (negative) assumptions about him.

Theres also possible showdows with Rivera (belt holder), Forrest-Quartley winner, Mosley-Vargas winner

I was tipped off that any close fight would go to Spinks....but I only hope it doesn't distract from the Spinks performance.... Still pretty damn good debut at a new weight after a year and a half out in the Wilderness (with lots of promotional distractions).

There is also Santos available for either Spinks or Roman.... He fought on the undercard.

seems to me that if a DK fighter loses his title, he can get a shot at another DK fighter. Or even better try to get a shot ata non DK fighter, so that DK has all the belts..Dzinziruk anyone?

JA Rivera lost to Collazo then went straight to a fight with A Garcia...Collazo will probably get another shot by next summer...spinks lost to judah then got a shot @karmazin. all these guys are very underrated and so long as a couple or three of them hold titles it seems they'll be mixed and matched

The german judge who gave Spinks the 12th round is a complete idiot. Spinks was running for his life the whole round. Roman was the agressor the whole round.
