Credit to Ellis for putting up a very brave fight and being willing to step in there.

Now let's see who else is willing to do it.

In the meantime expect to see further games of the alphabet musical chairs being enacted out as Canelo, Plant, and Charlo all frantically seek to avoid DB.

In any other sport it would be seen as a matter of urgency to arrange a big showdown amongst the top 3 or 4.

But not in the corrupt swamp of boxing.

As for Benavidez, he needs to get back in there asap and just keep blasting GGG style.

Yup!

Benavidez is No 1 challenger for wbc and No 2 for the wba's 3 belts. Also wba has 3 champions at smw like Canelo, Morrell and Chudinov lol

After/If Canelo will unify I think he would just vacate those belts, so Benavidez would probably fight for that wbc smw title. :TU:

maybe david should stop coming in overweight if he wants to keep a title and be part of unification talk with those other guys, they didnt force him to lose his title twice/be overweight/do a bunch of coke

I tend to agree with this, Benavidez didn't exactly put himself in a helpful situation to land the big fights. He hasn't done any more or less than the Plants, Smiths or Saunders of the division, so there should be no more or no less urgency to face him compared to the former. As a matter of fact the others should be first in line based on actually holding titles currently(aside from Smith), he kinda shot himself in the foot on this one.

Hopefully Plant and Benavidez fight each other next instead of all those stiffs.

Ellis was a lot more game than I thought he would be.
Have to give him credit for that.
Still not the level of opponent that Bennie needs.
I agree with other posters that Plant is his best path.

People acting like Benavidez is being hardly done by and avoided... He missed weight and lost his belt only 6 months ago. And since then all the top guys have been trying to unify/ go undisputed/ get canelo cash.. cant blaim them for that.
Id like to see him fight Daniel Jacobs (even though he looked awfull last fight), if he wins that he is clear front runner for next at canelo after he beats Saunders and plant.

Ya it's weird, lol do they not actually follow boxing? Dude has lost his title twice by his own fault and isnt exactly setting the world on fire beating Roamer Angulo and Ron Ellis

Why do you feel that fighters are “ducking” David Benavidez?

Is it a knowledge gap on your part, whereby you’re unaware of the manner in which he’s mismanaged his own career?

Or do you feel he deserves an honorary rite of passage to being automatically considered the top-dog at 168lbs, regardless of his attempts to sabotage his own career?

Here’s a summary of David Benavidez’s mistakes he’s made within the last years in regard to the management of his own career:

• 12/06/2018: David Benavidez returned a $250K sign-on bonus payment he wrongly accepted from Top Rank, when he tried to sign-up with them, forgetting that he'd also signed a four-year contract extension with his existing promoter, Sampson Boxing, seven months prior.

• 18/09/2018: David Benavidez failed an out-of-competition drug test when he tested positive for a component of cocaine (benzoylecgonine). He admitted to making a mistake, was stripped of his WBC title and also received a four months suspension, which ran until February 2019.

• 14/08/2020: David Benavidez failed to make weight for his fight against Roamer Alexis (by a 3lbs margin) and was subsequently stripped of his WBC title for the second time.

• 02/03/2021: David Benavidez rejects an opportunity to face the current WBC middleweight titleholder, Jermall Charlo, in a catch-weight bout.

• 13/03/2021: David Benavidez delivers an uninspiring, though dominant, performance when he defeated only his fourth opponent (Ronald Ellis) within the last three years and one month.

I appreciate that feelings and unfounded opinions are more important to some people than facts, but you can’t seriously ignore all these real-world events and pretend that David Benavidez isn’t responsible for his own predicament?

You really think that Benavidez’s rivals are “ducking” him, but it’s nigh-on impossible for anyone to argue he deserves to engage in marquee bouts, especially when you consider how he’s handled his own promoter, his title reigns, his inactivity, his weight, his use of recreational drugs and also rejecting opportunities he hasn’t even earned! :o

That was a good fight.
Benavidez is a very exciting boxer to watch.
Ellis went further than I thought he could.
Benavidez walks straight up to you and relies on his superb short inside boxing shots to thwart his opponents.
His jab ?
Yes it plays a role but it's more the way Benavidez draws you into where he can get you that counts for him.
