She’s probably thinking it’ll do 100,000+ buys though!

You do know the PPV is $29.99?maverick23 wrote: ↑05 Mar 2021, 07:33 Shields’ highest purse has been $350k so they probably need something like 30,000 PPV buys to match that (once they take into account marketing costs, other fighter fees, Fite tv’s cut of the revenue).

TBH, i'm sure 50k ppv buys would be seen as a success.. nearly $1.5m revenue.
US has around 400k-500k hardcore fans..
Her fight with with Hammer peaked 369k on Showtime.. averaged 339k
The fight with Habazin, which had a decent build up to be fair, peaked 288k views. averaged 255k
She attracted more viewers in her early days, averaged/peaked 410k against Hannah Gabriels
These are people that have Showtime subs, or did have and most probably flicked over to check it out.
How many of these people will buy this..

So after promoting it as an all women ppv they throw two male fight on the card
They probably had to give Dicaire a decent paycheck to come to Flint.
She can't ko Claressa and she's not getting a decision either.

Yep - aware of the price but also aware that’s it’s not cheap to promote stage/fight on your own. They won’t have a Sky sports pushing it constantly so have to do it and pay for it themselves.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑05 Mar 2021, 11:17You do know the PPV is $29.99?maverick23 wrote: ↑05 Mar 2021, 07:33 Shields’ highest purse has been $350k so they probably need something like 30,000 PPV buys to match that (once they take into account marketing costs, other fighter fees, Fite tv’s cut of the revenue).

Also 50,000 buys doesn’t make $1.5m revenue. Their revenue will be net of any VAT and net of Fite TV’s commission %.

not every ppv $ actually goes to the fighters/promoter of course
i dunno about this card, but i see it a lot, ppl acting like ppv act like, lets say, 1 m in ppv buys = a card broke even if total purses was 1 m . there are all sorts of hands going into that pot and breaking it up different ways and obviously costs aside from just paying fighters
you'd have to pay me at least 1000 to watch this

Claressa Shields' team happy with [unspecified] pay-per-view sales figures
Though final buy numbers are still coming in, the sport of women’s boxing has reason for optimism because, according to event organizers, the all-female pay-per-view event last Friday night (March 5th), featuring two-time Olympic gold medalist Claressa Shields defeating Marie Eve Dicaire, has already surpassed all projected sales expectations. Held at the Dort Financial Center in Shields’ hometown of Flint, Michigan, the pay-per-view broadcast saw Shields cap off a night of female fights by cementing herself in sports history as the first boxer in the four-belt era to be crowned an undisputed world champion in two separate weight divisions. By virtue of her shutout ten-round victory over previous IBF champion Dicaire [and some help from the WBA, stripping Hannah Gabriels], Shields now also reigns supreme as the unified WBC, WBO, IBF and WBA 154-pound champion.
The night’s two primary organizers, Shields promoter, Dmitriy Salita, President of Salita Promotions and Mark Taffet, President of Mark Taffet Media LLC and Manager of Shields, say they hope the reassuring sales numbers are a sign of changing times for women’s sports that will help encourage other promoters to buy into the possibility of more female-centric boxing events in the future.
“On the weekend of International Women’s Day, Claressa Shields accomplished another first for any man or woman in the long history of boxing. That coupled with her two Olympic Gold Medals and status as a three-division world champion, prove Claressa is a real-life Superwoman! From a young girl growing up in Flint to a woman winning her second undisputed world championship with the whole world watching, Claressa has showed what is possible for female athletes and for women’s boxing. I am honored to be involved in her Herstoric career and I want to wish women around the world a happy and meaningful International Women’s Day."
"I am proud to be associated with women's rights trailblazer Claressa Shields,” added Taffet. “Just 25 years young and already accomplishing, in the Olympics and in the professional boxing ranks, what no man has ever done. Claressa continually uses her platform and broad shoulders to stand tall for all women and demand equality across the board. On this International Women's Day, I am thankful that Claressa Shields is championing the cause and continuing to make measurable and demonstrable progress in her advocacy of women's boxing. Today and every day, men and women everywhere should stand beside Claressa as she transcends boxing and makes true societal change."

Doesn’t exactly mean good numbers.
They could have been expecting 1000 buys and it did 1300 buys.
Re: Claressa Shields vs. Marie Eve Dicaire - March 5, 2021
It could have sold 10 buys and they'll spin it positive.
Did they sell all of the tickets that were allowed?
I believe they were allowed 200 or so ticket sales.

Shields: I Want At Least $1M To Lose My Butt, Move Down To 147 To Fight Katie Taylor
Claressa Shields is willing to shed seven more pounds to fight Katie Taylor, but only for what she considers an appropriate purse.
Shields declared her willingness to box the unbeaten Taylor at a catch weight of 147 pounds after defeating Marie-Eve Dicaire on Friday night to fully unify the 154-pound titles. Ireland’s Taylor is women’s boxing’s undisputed lightweight champion, though she has competed at the junior welterweight limit of 140 pounds.
The 34-year-old Taylor (17-0, 6 KOs) might be more willing to face the winner of the upcoming welterweight championship rematch between Jessica McCaskill and Cecilia Braekhus at a catch weight, but a showdown with Shields would generate more money and attention for Taylor. The 25-year-old Shields (11-0, 2 KOs) is commonly considered the best female fighter, pound-for-pound, in boxing.
Shields discussed a potential fight with Taylor during her post-fight interview Friday night in Flint, Michigan.
The three-division champion and two-time Olympic gold medalist made it perfectly clear that she would want to be properly compensated, however, before she’d consider moving all the way down to the welterweight limit. Shields started her pro career as a 168-pound super middleweight in November 2016, yet she already has dropped down two weight classes without it negatively impacting her performances.
“Katie Taylor is not the worry in that sentence, the 147 is,” Shields told Dan Canobbio in the ring. “Katie is a great fighter. They gotta pay me a lotta money for me to lose my butt to go down to 147. Like, at the end of the day, I’m a woman and that’s something that I love about my body. I might not have no big breasts, but I’ve got a nice butt. And I will lose that going to 147, so they need to come with that dough, and I’ll be seeing Katie at 147, as long as they come at least with a million. Talk to me nice.”
Shields dominated Dicaire (17-1, 0 KOs) in their 10-round fight for the IBF, WBA “super,” WBC and WBO 154-pound championships. Each judge scored Shields the winner of all 10 rounds in their pay-per-view main event (100-90, 100-90, 100-90).
In addition to mentioning Taylor as a potential opponent, Shields called out Savannah Marshall after defeating Dicaire. England’s Marshall (9-0, 7 KOs), the WBO middleweight champion, is the only opponent to whom Shields has lost as an amateur or a professional.
Shields didn’t mention the McCaskill-Braekhus winner.
Chicago’s McCaskill (9-2, 3 KOs) upset Norway’s Braekhus (36-1, 9 KOs) by majority decision in their 10-round fight for Braekhus’ IBF, IBO, WBA, WBC and WBO welterweight titles August 15 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Braekhus was boxing’s longest-reigning champion prior to her loss to McCaskill.
Their immediate rematch is scheduled for Saturday night at American Airlines Center in Dallas (DAZN).

She’ll be wanting to go back to Showtime and make $300k again.
Making people pay for it is the best way to find out if you’re an attraction or not - if the 10,000 is remotely close to being true then it shows that’s she’s got a lot of work to do to become a proper PPV star.
On these numbers why would Eddie pay her ‘at least $1m’ to fight Katie Taylor? Or strong 6 figures to fight Savannah Marshall?

According to that Forbes article Shields didn't have a guaranteed purse. She was fighting for a percentage of the ppv revenue.
