What I find incredible was that Ali was back in the ring just over 3 months later. Against Jimmy Ellis....unfathomable today. Considering what a major fight it was...

Ali was freakishly tough and durable, like an iron man. This remarkable physique led to his longevity and activity in the ring. It surely affected his greatness. He took so many punishment in the ring, he could have been broken on so many occasions, but he wasn't. Of course, according to his doctor Ferdie Pacheco, he urinated with blood after the Frazier bouts and showed the first signs of Parkinson in the mid 30s, after what he eventually had a terrible senility, but his ability to stand his ground in the ring was very impressive.

Ali suffered ? Not career wise. He went on to notch his most impressive win over 3 and a half years later.

I agree with that too. He went on to have some big moments. Obviously beating Foreman. Frazier seemed a bit off his game in the 2nd fight, but both showed what they had left in the third fight.

1971-I was in the 4th grade and would not become a boxing fan until several years later
(was still in my 1933 King Kong and Toho Godzilla/Japanese Monster movies phase then)
but I do remember the "Hub-Bub" and publicity build up for it then.
a week after the fight, I remember going into a big warehouse that sold used furniture
and the employees (about 3 or 4)were gathered in a corner watching Frazier vrs Ali on a TV set
this was when it was re-played on ABC-TV WIDE WORLD OF SPORTS about a week afterwards.
I do emember they were rooting for Frazier.

I wonder how many of that number are still around to have observed the 50th anniversary ?
