Yeah - I think Shane McGuigan deserves a lot of credit. He’s clearly improved Okolie who’s already big physical gifts.stevec@france wrote: ↑21 Mar 2021, 06:37 glowacki was poor frankly but Okolie has really improved his technique plus a great right hand .

He also looks as though he’s improved Fowler. He seems more relaxed in the ring and is showing his power more now.
Watching Cordina last night I thought he could do with changing something in his training as he’s not getting much power into his punches. Perhaps a move to Shane would help him out.

Okolie has been moved well but I'm not convinced he would beat a Breidis or Dorticos. He's not really a technical type of fighter and will revert to grab and hug in those types of fights I think. He will win fights where he can sit back and use his size and length but Dorticos will not give him space and throws a continuous jab and Bredis is just a better technician and has won those mauling fights himself. Dorticos is a little basic in what he is doing but I'll pick him over Okolie.

I've never seen him fighting, but I see that he made Radchenko retire after round 4 in his just 2nd fight, he's the first one to stop him, that's impressive.Verdi wrote: ↑21 Mar 2021, 06:12He's only had 3 fights, but i'd say that Kamshybek Kunkabayev is already one of the best in the division.aicheligad wrote: ↑20 Mar 2021, 20:06 Briedis is the most likely to defeat Okolie, maybe Cieślak or Tishchenko could do that as well but I wouldn't favour them.

you should check kunk out, very impressive i think in his 2 pro fights. a south paw with skills and power
he was a top shw amateur, winning 2 silver medals at the worlds even though undersized. he stopped jalolov in the ams.

Id be interested to hear people views on Fowler, seems a love him or hate him figure.
Clearly he is an exciting fighter with decent amateur pedigree.
However, he is 30 and has been moved very slowly.
Is this because Eddie doesn't rate him? He is consistently matched against smaller non punchers and while Fitz was a good amateur, he was still smaller, hadn't impressed in the pro's and was regarded as a loose cannon who didn't train or live right.
Since then they have reverted to very careful matching.
Last night Eddie was talking about Cheeseman, Metcalf and Garcia. Does he think Fowler can win? Is he cashing out? Or because they will be entertaining fights everyone wins?
Is Fowler the new David Walker?
Does he sell tickets?

I quite like him. I sat next to him at a show after he’d won the Commonwealth Games gold and he seemed like a really nice bloke. Doesn’t come across that way on social media though.Coco wrote: ↑21 Mar 2021, 09:04 Id be interested to hear people views on Fowler, seems a love him or hate him figure.

I don’t think he has any attribute that is world class and it’s a tough weight division. They’ve clearly been waiting and marking time for a rematch with Fitzgerald. I’d that doesn’t happen early summer then they should move on.
He can fight someone like Garcia for the European but I think he’d be outboxed so he’s probably better off fighting the other British guys like Cheeseman, Eggington, Metcalf. They’ll be better fights, probably give him more chance of winning and would likely pay more too.

He’s a lot better than David Walker as you mentioned.

He can defo win a British, but he's really no levels above the fitz, cheese, conway, etc grouping
as mentioned, they love to match him vs smaller guys w/o power

Could Bellew beat him if he came out of retirement?
Re: Round-by-Round: Lawrence Okolie vs. Krzysztof Glowacki - 20 March 2021
Paul Smith made some comments last night saying that putting folk against Fowler to be steamrolled didn't do him any good and having the loss was beneficial to learn.
However it seem they have gone backwards in his matching and time isn't on his side, he hasn't got time to lose if he has setbacks.
These easy fights won't prepare him for a British title shot. Maybe he could blast Cheeseman out, if not does he have a plan B?
Going back to Paul Smith, he is a good commentator who knows his stuff.

Ya it's a good point, and like I've been saying, for all the talk of improvement, if you look at opposition theyve merely been matching him with the type of guys he was facing before fitz.......and he was blowing them out already then.

Fowler has a lot of flaws. I don't think he will go far at all. He came across like a tool in the fitz lead up too.
Re: Round-by-Round: Lawrence Okolie vs. Krzysztof Glowacki - 20 March 2021
For me there must be a reason for matching a 30 year old so carefullymargaret thatcher wrote: ↑21 Mar 2021, 11:16 Ya it's a good point, and like I've been saying, for all the talk of improvement, if you look at opposition theyve merely been matching him with the type of guys he was facing before fitz.......and he was blowing them out already then.

Ring rust, or overnight old, I don't know.
As for Okolie, big improvement
Re: Round-by-Round: Lawrence Okolie vs. Krzysztof Glowacki - 20 March 2021
Okolie whooped and KOed Glowacki, as it had been expected. Glowacki just couldn't suggest anything.

Okolie has called for a unification against Briedis.

Re: Round-by-Round: Lawrence Okolie vs. Krzysztof Glowacki - 20 March 2021
Okolie boxes like he's balancing an invisible book on his head, and must be conscious of it because he keeps his righthand close to his chin, covering whichever side he expects the next shot to come from. But he doesn't tuck it when he lets his hands go, so I think he might be vulnerable to anyone who stalks like Tyson.
Glowacki was way too slow for what he was attempting, but even with slow feet he could've tried pressuring against the ropes at times. Didn't fancy walking onto a righthand when an opportunity might've been there to create something; I get that. Except in the end he did!
Someone who commits to rolling forward with good head movement's gonna ask a lot more of Okolie. Trading with his high chin on the inside's betting the farm every time, and then it probably just comes down to a straight battle of chins, power and fortune.
At heavy his weaknesses'll be amplified, and I think he'd struggle to crack the top 10 at the minute. Some of the b-tier guys in the 10-30 range are beatable. How much he can develop his legs should dictate how much weight he puts on for me, because we saw what happened to Wilder when he decided to come in heavier on the same pins.
Definite progress, though, and I'm glad he's not tying up as much now. We just need to see what he does under the quality of pressure he'll be facing soon.

Re: Round-by-Round: Lawrence Okolie vs. Krzysztof Glowacki - 20 March 2021
I thought Okolie looked very good on Saturday, I expected him to lose the early rounds but find a home for his punches by tuemid way stage and Glowcki to crumble quite quickly after that.
But Okolie outboxed him from the get go and looked relatively comfortable moving a room nd the ring and jabbing a southpaw, something many top class fighters never really master.
CBS looked poor I thought, he won well enough on the cards for me, but took too many unneccesary shots. I know it was a late replacement and all that but he is better than he showed in that fight.
Fowler looked good vs a limited opponent, nothing new there. It is when he fights someone he can't just bully that he runs out of ideas (I even thought that when he was on the amateurs). He could win the British as there are a few guys there at a similar kind of level, any more than that I can't see it.
Cordina has plenty of skill, not sure he has the pop to make at the top but see no reason why he shouldn't give it a go. He took his foot off the gas a bit towards the end and gave up a few rounds but I think he would stay more switched on against a more dangerous opponent (he needs to).
