I see, fairly big fight to be shown for free on YouTube isn't it. I wonder if they're considering monetising these cards in the future?

If that’s the case then it seems really weird that they’re doing seemingly nothing to pre-promote it. They’ll be getting loads of views in the next few days with the PPV this weekend so you would have have thought they’d have something in the intro to their videos pushing the biggest live fight they’ve ever done.

TV details revealed for Jamel Herring vs Carl Frampton

THE broadcast details have been confirmed for Carl Frampton's bid to become a three-weight world champion when he tangles with Jamel Herring for the WBO super-featherweight title in Dubai next Saturday, April 3.

There had been some concerns as to where local fight fans could tune into the bout as nothing had been announced on this side of the Atlantic.

During last Friday's British lightweight title fight between Maxi Hughes and Paul Hyland Jnr, broadcast on YouTube, it was revealed that IFL TV would beam all the action on Easter Saturday through their YouTube channel and this was officially confirmed this afternoon (Thursday). ESPN+ will carry the broadcast to boxing fans in the United States.

The undercard action will begin at 7pm Irish time, with Belfast's Tyrone McKenna taking on explosive Kazakh Zhankosh Turarov for the WBO Inter-Continental light-welterweight title expected around 9pm.

This will be followed by Frampton's quest to secure his legacy by becoming the first rich fighter to claim world titles in three different weight divisions when he challenges New York's Herring in a fight that has been delayed on a number of occasions.

The pair were initially due to meet last summer in Belfast, but the Covid-19 pandemic saw the fight put on the back-burner.

It was rescheduled for February 27 of this year, but a hand injury sustained by 'The Jackal' in training prompted a further delay with the eagerly-anticipated dust-up moved from London to Dubai.

Initially, BT Sport were to broadcast the February date, but had made no indication they were to televise the rescheduled card next week, leaving many fans anxious as to how they could tune-in to support the Belfast favourite.

Those fears have been allayed and whilst the fight is not on a mainstream TV platform, the good news is that all of the action will be available to view with no subscription required.

There are a few rumours that the Frampton fight will be shown on channel 5 on Saturday.

Good call if so. It deserves to get a bigger audience than it would on YouTube.

FW may be down as a co-promoter of Frampton but it must be tough for Carl to give FW his cut. Same with Tyson Fury.

Carl Frampton vs Jamel Herring: Free-to-air TV channel could yet show bout in UK

Carl Frampton's massive world title showdown with Jamel Herring could end up being shown live on Channel 5 in the UK.

The Jackal will bid to become Ireland's first ever three-weight world champion when he takes on WBO World super-featherweight king Herring on Saturday, April 3.

It was announced earlier this week that the bout would be shown on iFL TV in the UK and Ireland, a boxing streaming channel which shows live events on its YouTube channel.

Now it is being reported that Channel 5 could show the fight free-to-air next Saturday night.

Mike Coppinger from The Athletic said: "Source: The Jamel Herring-Carl Frampton title tilt on April 3 will be televised on free-to-air Channel 5 in the U.K. Frampton bidding to become first Irish three-division champ ever."

Fight fans in the UK have been wondering how they will get to watch the big fight, which is taking place at the The Rotunda at Caesars Palace, Bluewaters, Dubai.

BT Sport had the rights when the fight was originally scheduled for February 27 in London, but then it was postponed after Frampton picked up a minor hand injury.

But BT appeared to have cooled their interest after the event was rescheduled for Dubai.

IFL have put up the link for this show on YouTube with a start date of 6pm so around 9 for the main event seems a reasonable guess.

Fvck it i reckon Frampton will knock Herring out, ive pretty much always thougt Herring's size and southpaw style would be too much for Frampton especially up at Super Feather but the more I think about it i think Frampton is a level above even now, theres no doubt Herring is a much improved boxer from the guy who got stopped from Shafikov 5 years ago but he's still not beat or even fought someone as good as Frampton, i know he's tiny in comparison but Frampton's always the smaller guy but his judgement of distance and timing have always been his best assets, i think he'll break Herring down to the body and get him out of there or it might just be a shot out of the the blue to get rid of him, either way im saying Frampton KO some point after the halfway mark

Jamel Herring is the man who stands in Carl Frampton’s way of securing a legacy in boxing history on April 3 in Dubai, as the legendary Irishman attempts to win a world title at a third weight category at the expense of the reigning WBO World super-featherweight champion.

But who is the defending champion? BBN have found out some little-known facts about the American hero:

The Beginning

Jamel Herring was born on October 30, 1985, in Rockville Centre, New York, to Michael Mitchell and Jeanine Herring. His mother remarried to Harry Elliby and he was raised in Gordon Heights, Coram. He attended Longwood High School, with another successful pro boxer, Cletus Seldin.

He began boxing in 2001, aged 15/16, with trainer Austin Hendrickson.

The Father

Jamel suffered the worst tragedy imaginable when his daughter, Ariyanah, passed away from sudden death infant syndrome (SIDS) in 2009, aged just two months. The condition is extremely rare, recorded at a rate of 0.05% according to US government figures.

Everything Jamel does in his career and life is to keep the memory of his late daughter alive. He explained, “Every time I feel I’m starting down the wrong path, I think of her. What would she think if I was to do this? It keeps me on the right track and I have more joy today than I did 10 years back when the tragedy happened.”

Herring has a large healthy family consisting of a Kamren (2004); Stephen (2007); Jamel Jr. (2010); Jazmyne (2013); Justice (2017).

The Husband

Jamel married childhood sweetheart, Jennifer Dickerson, on September 26, 2015.

The Marine

In 2003, Herring enlisted into the US Marine Corps to serve his country in the wake of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. He served in two tours of Iraq. He was inspired by the history of Marines that went on to become world champion boxers and looked up to ex-Marines Leon Spinks and Ken Norton.

The memories of the Iraq war left the retired marine with depression and PTSD, especially after losing his best friend, Stephen Brown. They met when Jamel was only six and lived across the street from each other, shortly after his mother regained custody of him. Stephen was a year older and joined the Marines the year before Herring did, then sadly passed away from lung cancer on December 12, 2004. It was Stephen who introduced Jamel to boxing and became the biggest influence in his life, which is why the grieving friend named his son Stephen, born in 2007, in tribute to his best friend.

The Olympian

Jamel led the US team in the London 2012 Olympics and became the first serving Marine to qualify for the US boxing team since 1992.

He compiled a record of 81-15 as an amateur, mostly while serving a full nine years in the Marines. He won a gold medal in the US National Amateur Championships in 2012, he also won the US Armed Forces Champions the same year, defending the title successfully that he won in 2011.

The Boxer

Jamel says that boxing, widely regarded as the hardest sport in the world, is actually quite therapeutic for him after all of the heartbreak he has had to endure during his life.

He said, “I’ve suffered loss in life. I lost a daughter, I lost friends in the military. I always look back and don’t take things for granted. Boxing, for me, has been therapeutic.”

The Long Islander

Jamel is one of only three world champions from Long Island, which includes Buddy McGirt and Chris Algieri.

The Sparring Partner

Herring has had the best possible preparation for this world title defence by sparring with P4P great, Terence Crawford, in Nebraska.

The Champion

Herring became a world champion when he defeated Masayuki Ito in May 2019, and has defended the WBO belt twice to Lamont Roach in his first defence in November 2019, then to Jonathan Oquendo in September 2020.

He refers to himself as a ‘regular human being’ with a new platform available to him as a world champion and a responsibility to be open and share his experiences to help others.

He said, “I look at it as the responsibility of a true champion to share my story. Potentially, I can help save someone’s life and put them on the right path.

The Nickname

The nickname ‘Semper Fi’ is a Latin phrase (Semper fidelis in full) which simply means ‘Always loyal’ or ‘Always faithful’. It is the motto of the US Marine Corps, which is thought to have originated from ancient Rome.

MTK Global have confirmed that Saturday’s WBO junior lightweight title fight between Jamel Herring and Carl Frampton has found an official TV home in the United Kingdom and Ireland.

Channel 5 will broadcast Herring’s title defense against the Belfast native, while those in the United States can watch the fight streaming live from Dubai on ESPN+.

Herring (22-2, 10 KO) and Frampton (28-2, 16 KO) have been on a collision course for over a year, but one obstacle after another has gotten in the way, including COVID and travel restrictions last year, and injuries to Frampton.
