Look it's a simple case of you have to protect yourself at all times. If you get that badly hurt take the knee or be aware that your opponent very well might take free shots. My first time sparring the trainer shouted break and I stepped back with my hands down. The trainer who was in his 60s, gave me an open handed slap on the side of the head and told me "He could have done that and just said 'i didn't hear you ref' so f*cking protect yourself at all times. now get back to boxing"

Yes we know all that protect yourself at all times moto but Hughes was across the ring from hyland when the ref gave his shìt show. To me Hughes was on the verge of winning and it was only a matter of time but to me that was a cheap shot and morally wrong,remember this is a sport not a fight to the death.

Yes we know all that protect yourself at all times moto but Hughes was across the ring from hyland when the ref gave his shìt show. Hyland must've known he never actually touched down, it was body shots doing the damage so his head would've been fairly clear, no crowd noise to drown out the refs box on, im not wanting to dig Hyland up too bad but as everyone says protect yourself at all times, who knows when Hyland sagged maybe that was him giving up?? The ref made the initial blunder by going to give a count before Hyland went down, within a split second he realised he never actually went down and immediately instructed them to box on, i certainly thought he was down, im not sure what Hyland was playing at

The refs biggest cock up was not the premature count but failing to either stop Hughes going for the inevitable KO or not shouting stop boxing before he got to Hyland, Hughes is blameless but id say the lions share of blame falls at Hyland, either go down or quit but dont walk away not looking ffs, listen to ref and protect yourself
