Funny that because I recall Michael Watson being made #1 WBC/A winning the Commonwealth trophy.

I don't remember that, he had the shot but because he was mandatory?

Eubank didn't win any of those belts

Yes it’s strange considering how successful Eubank was, the only other belt he won was an International one

Benn too, only a commonwealth belt

Think Clev won them all but actually never faced a reigning champion

Yes the winner was to be made WBA/C #1 from what I remember, Benn to face Duran or Watson to face McCallum

Benn doesn’t want Conor messing about with the British title. Nigel said he had bigger fish to fry than hanging around for British or European title fights, bringing up Herol Graham as wasting his career

Magri was scheduled to challenge Zambia's Patrick Mambwe for the Commonwealth flyweight title in London in 1980 but Mambwe was found to have cataracts on both eyes.

Ruthless-RKO wrote: 29 Mar 2021, 16:33 There are also a few who held a belt before they stepped up to British/Comm/Euro level.

Fury won the Irish HW belt.

There’s a few that may have won regional belts first, or even the English belt..

Callum Smith josh warrington both held English title.

About 15 years back or so wasn't the commonwealth one a bit of a budget strap...one that the not so world class guys would be aiming for...but the guys who were looking more like potential world champions would mostly bypass that and head for the European?

And that being said I think the past decade we have lost that "traditional route" boxers look to take...it's all aimed at PPV cards, cramming names on the event, international/intercontinental ABC titles to attain a ranking with that body....etc. Shame really.

Nuts to think he never beat a reigning champion in any of his title wins.

Most of our top fighters would have been well capable of winning all but it just demonstrates the way the promoters do things

Honeyghan won 3 British title fights and i think at the time you only needed 3 wins to own it outright, later changed to 4 if i remember correctly.
