Mike Mc Callum

Post by counterpunched »

Why does this man get overlooked whenever there's talk of best British fighters?
In my opinion he is the best boxer by far better than anyone in that 'golden' era..Calzage might of been close to him but Mike really was the man. Fucked his record when he had a few 'later' fights..but i would put him in the top 5 on the ALL TIME list.

Struggling to find anything on him being anything other than Jamaican. Did he live in the UK for a time?
Is that where the British thing is coming from?

Now you see, I thought he was a Geordie! He certainly sounded like one for all those years I followed him.

Actually he was born (as were both his parents) just outside Pontypridd in a little village called Ynyshir. Whilst initially joining the family funeral directors business, his Welsh valleys hard working nature soon earned him the nickname of 'Body Snatcher' due to his enthusiastic no nonsense approach of collecting 'clients'.

You're all wrong,McCallum was actually from Birmingham and he developed his distinctive Jamaican accent by listeing to hours of Ali Campbell and UB40.

In 1972, a crack commando was sent to prison by a military court for a crime he didn't commit but he promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade to the Bury St. Edmunds underground. Today, still wanted by the government, he survives as soldier of fortune. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find him maybe you can hire... Mike McCallum

I'm surprised no one has mentioned he's Scottish, given his surname.

I believe his father is Sardinian and mother Welsh so one could argue he's neither.
