Warren- Enzo can beat Haye

Post by emma »

allegedly is backing Enzo Maccarinelli to have a big impact at world level - and says he would beat domestic rivals Johnny Nelson and David Haye.

Maccarinelli beat Fabian Marcelo Dominguez to capture the interim WBO cruiserweight title on Saturday night.

He is scheduled to fight incumbent champion Nelson before the end of September, and if he doesn't recover from long-term injury, Maccarinelli will be announced full title holder.

And Warren believes that could be just the start of a long-term reign.

"I thought Enzo did really well on Saturday," said Warren. "It was a fight that was ordered by the WBO and Dominguez is no mug, he was their number two after all.

"I think he will have too much for Johnny Nelson and I'd make a fight with David Haye, in fact I tried to, in a heartbeat.

"Haye would be dangerous for a couple of rounds, but after that there are big question marks over his stamina and his chin, and he would be struggling.

"I think Enzo is a very under-rated fighter, but over the next couple of years he will show just how good he is.

"He's got a tremendous punch but also real heart. He got put down by a cracking shot against Bruce Scott but climbed off the floor to win. I think he will go on to prove he is a much better fighter than people give him credit for."

I've noticed Enzo is tucking his chin down a bit more lately, and I think these last two fights are good for him, he now knows that sometimes you have to take your licks as well as give them. Sure, he looks a bit wobbly at times, but he fires back and keeps himself together.

Haye could of course just ice him early, there is that possibility, but if Enzo keeps circling and popping off the jab, then I think that would disrupt Haye, who likes to be flat footed and wait for openings.

I'd LOVE to see this fight made, but something tells me that it will never happen. Haye will move up to heavyweight before too long.

I wonder whether Enzo can beat Nelson though, but with all the layoffs and injury, he'll never have a better chance to get to the old dancemaster.

Yes, Enzo's guard looked better last time but is still open to straight punches to the nose and he looks very vulnerable (as he always has done). He has terrific heart and I think thats what will get him through vs Haye.

Odd as it may sound but I think a 100% fit Nelson will beat Enzo, Haye would KO Nelson but Enzo would KO Haye.

I think Haye's extra speed and smoothness would be too much for Nelson at this age, but Nelson would be too experienced for Maccrinelli and will smother his work.

I think Enzo will find spark out Haye when in trouble himself... Almost ala Thompson vs Haye - but with one clean punch.

Agree with that assessment, Enzo's more mechanical style and lack of fluid movement, and the fact he is slower will probably allow Nelson to eke out a points win, though Enzo might outwork the old fox and nick a slightly controversial decision. Before these last two fights, I thought Nelson was going to take Enzo into deep water and dismantle him, but I think Enzo has gained enough experience and confidence from two hard fights to see the last bell whatever happens.

Haye has quick enough hands that he can blast one right onto Nelson's chin. Nelson has looked wobbly a few times in the last couple of years, and as he will be 40 soon (if he isn't already) those reflexes aren't going to get any better.

Haye early, Enzo late if they fight. Haye's power is enough to turn a fight his way, especially as Enzo doesn't have the kind of ability to absorb punishment Thompson had.

There is a suprise

I was expecting Warren to come out and say that he had no doubts Haye would spark his own fighter.......

Haye is obviously faster and more fluid than Enzo, but if Enzo lands a shot like the one he got Dominguez with Haye will be clean knocked out.

Shame there's zero chance of the fight happening. I don't think it could fail to be entertaining. And no need to appoint any judges for it.

Enzo to beat Haye??

Couldn't envision that happening personally.....With big puncher's anything can happen though I suppose!

Haye will be looking at a world title then moving up to Heavy though IMO so can't see this fight happening.

I am not fully convinced with Haye yet, can he grind out a tough fight? I am not certain he can. And his chin is questionable, he was once knocked spark out in the amateurs with a headguard and pillow gloves! And Mock dropped him

Agree with you guys, would give a slight advantage to Enzo. This would be a terrific fight to headline on ITV. Warren seems like he's up for it, and so does Macca but cannot see Booth & Haye taking it, perhaps 2 years down the line when they both (hopefully) got legit world titles, then it would be an all British superfight. If Haye moves up to HW, then don't see why Macca can't either.

Just basing this on seeing Enzo's last performance, but I can't see Enzo beating Haye either.

Enzo has stated in the past that he does not want to move up to heavyweight and that he walks around not much over the cruiser limit, how true this is I don't know.

As for David Haye struggling to make the cruiser limit, I sometimes wonder if he just doesn't like doing it. He never looks that weight drained and his legs are a decent size. I might be completely wrong, I'd just hate to see him go the way of Herbie Hide.

I agree. I'm convinced he 'wants' to move to HW much more than he 'needs' to. Just lay off the weights a little if you're really having trouble.
I'd lean towards Enzo bashing him up and stopping him around the 6th but Haye has the equaliser, Enzo can get hit & doesn't have the toughest beard in the world. So i make that prediction with no confidence at all.

Yes, I have heard the same thing. I remember Nicky Piper (who has been a long time Enzo supporter) saying that he was gutted when the new weight limit was announce - could he could make 13st 8 pretty comfortably.

I don't think he was bang on 14st 4 for Dominguez.

I'd like to see the 190 lb. division back, and the cruiser limit upped slightly to 204.

Lord no, we do not need any more weight divisions. What about cruiser at 195?

Enzo would only win by KO as Haye's more technical and Mac is limited, but Macca could improve if Enzo Calzaghe trains him.

Enzo Calzaghe is hardly Manny Steward or Freddie Roach. He is just lucky enough to have a son that has so much natural ability,he would of reached the top with almost any trainer.
He won't improve Macca much.

I would favour Haye for this fight, although it could be a cracker.
He is a better boxer, and hits harder in my opinion.
But they both have very dodgy chins, and Macca hits hard enough to stop Haye,so I certainly would'nt be putting too much money on Haye.

Well I do favour Haye.

Maybe Enzo could improve Macca though in the future.

Maccarinelli is improving steadily, he's always had power but he's certainly a lot better than he was.

Looks to me 50/50 -Not a gambling man anyway but this is definately not a fight to gamble on - Either man could stop the other and I wouldnt want to stick my neck out and pick a winner - Could be a double KO with neither man beating the count - What would that be, a draw!!

I would realy like to see Haye in with one of those light punching heavy weight types with a good chin who could get him going a few rounds does anyone remember a fringe british boxer from a couple of years ago called Keith long (I know he aint active any more but thats the kind of guy Im thinking of). Haye has been quite active which is good but realy wanna see him make the later rounds.. having said that he is damnd if he does damned if he don't, when he spent 8 rounds (I think to some extent perpousfuly) against a guy he got slamed.

Think Haye is the more skilled boxer tbh particularly post hobson. I would say Enzo may punch bigger when Haye KOs people they don't get knocked out if you know what I mean.
