Look at the shitty UK PPVs we have been fed by matchroom/sky recently compared to the pretty damn stacked show matchroom have In Uzbekistan tonight.

Perhaps I’m in the minority but I really enjoyed the Whyte PPV show and I was fine paying £20 for it.

The Cheeseman/Metcalf fight was class, I enjoyed both the Wardley/Molina (unexpectedly competitive) fight and the McKinson/Kongo fight (a good tricky fight) and I was looking forward to see how good Campbell Hatton was.

The main event was always going to be PPV given how the first fight sold and the way it finished but it was a shame how weak Povetkin looked.

It was certainly wasn’t a PPV that I wished I hadn’t paid for the following day.

I am glad you enjoyed it and of course everyone has a different view on these things.
There isn’t a wrong and right.

I just feel the UK customers aren’t getting a good deal vs many other regions.

If Sky keep serving up sub a standard product and Brits are prepared to pay for it then they only have themselves to blame

Fans are just craving boxing.. so if they have to pay for it, then they are..

where do the british ppv numbers come from? sources?


i mean, cuz if cards like that are really doing as many as 300k......you cant really blame them for beiing put on ppv. hearn is a businessman, that's his job. as a fan though, id like 'big' cards to be better than that

I’ve seen the numbers from a combination of people like Hearn, Coppinger, Rafael and a few others.

Obviously people won’t believe everything Hearn says when it comes to PPV buys but given the main event fighters are % splits depending on PPV sales he won’t be able to take the piss and say 500k buys when it does 200k because the fighters will be asking where the rest of their money is. He’s also said in the past when shows have done poorly (Campbell/Lomachenko, Taylor/Prograis).

Many of the people who complain about sub standard PPVs are the same people who buy them and keep them going.

The heavyweights always seem to get an extra push when it comes to money, interest and ppv. People want to see big guys hitting each other in the head.

The same calibre of fight (in terms of the fighters' position within the division and their actual abilities) in say the super lightweight division wouldn't be given much notice. I'd be a way down the card on a heavyweight ppv maybe.

One thing to note in the coming years, after Josh and Fury, who's leading the way for the next ppv fighters?
Dubois and Yarde failed to materialise thei hype....
Josh Taylor could be the best UK fighter at the moment but no idea who he is even tied to as he's fought on cards by Arum/Warren and Hearn the last few times.
Okolie could be heading for some pretty big PPV fights...but how well are people buying into him following a few stinkers in the last few years...
Joe Joyce doesn't really have time on his side, and maybe lacks some personality for the nation to get on his side in numbers?
Connor Benn riding the name for the time being....

Parker-Del as a main event at twenty quid is reaching new depths.

Not just that fight. Taylor / Jonas is the biggest mismatch on the card and that is co-main event.

Was it worth £20? Probably. There were a couple of fun fights and a fight of the year contender in Cheeseman/Metcalf.

But if you paid for it, and worse, if you pay for Chisora/Parker, that simply means that you've now accepted that you are going to have to accept that a number of the fights you would have seen on your (paid for) Sky subcription, will keep ending up on PPV.

And in the absence of any PPV stars other than Joshua and Whyte, you are are going to get these compilation events.

Let's not pretend that Connor Benn's first big fight doesn't go straight to PPV. Or that Okolie isn't now going to be pushed that way too, just as he's become watcahble.

ppv is very hard now, with online streams so many different channels showing boxing , fury bjs john ryder if he was going for a title if he is fighting the best about the only paper ppv ill buy
