Sad to see Carl go out in that fashion but 130 a step too far at his size plus the fact he was also past his prime, however well done to him on a great career, typically honest assessment from him on interview after the fight.

Congratulations to Herring also, very respectful guy who boxed to his strengths and closed the show effectively. Nice name for his resume too.

carl of the past would of beat herring, frampton just seemed out of his depht straight away reach and height of jamel was stopping carl from closing the distance to land his own shots, think i gave first 4 rds herring then the nasty cut on jamel eye seemed to breath life into frampton but as he got going ,he got dropped walking on to a shot,seemed shot worn carl still brave as anything but he was a fading light heart was there but body couldnt keep up great fighter, not sure what to make of herring i think stevension will beat him

Yes, that was how I felt going into this fight. Warrington was a division below and doesn't hit very hard at this level (he made absolutely no impression on Galahad two fights later) - but he looked positively dangerous against Frampton. Going up another weight class against a tall bloke who is huge for the weight, with Frampton forced to use his 34-year-old legs to get in and out of range, was always going to invite trouble.

that was herrings best performances, before id had him pegged as one of boxings worst champs. he looked totally inept back when hammered and stopped by shafikov, and still pretty shakey vs roach. not good vs oquendo either.

I think Shane McGuigan is a superior coach to Jamie Moore, whilst Moore seems to be a really sincere and sound individual.

Yeah - I’m sure he did do sparring but he would have almost certainly done more with Shane. Whilst that can really sharpen fighters, sparring 100s of rounds in camp will shorten careers.

Yeah - I’m sure he did do sparring but he would have almost certainly done more with Shane. Whilst that can really sharpen fighters, sparring 100s of rounds in camp will shorten careers.

the thing is father time caught up with frampton, and he has had a fantastic career and will go down as a great in his era , but he fought on maybe 3 fights to many i think but who are we to say , i dont think he could of done much more in that fight, for where he was at

Frampton said: “Only those closest to me know that, win, lose or draw with Jamel Herring, I was planning to retire. I made a promise to myself and to my wife and kids – the most important people in my life – that whatever the result, that was my last one.

“When I look back on my career I have achieved more than I could have ever imagined. Celtic, Commonwealth and European titles, winning my first world title at home in a purpose-built arena, the sold-out nights defending that title at the Odyssey, unifying a division, defeating a top ten pound for pound guy, winning a title in a second division against the odds, Ring Magazine Fighter of the Year, MBE, and fulfilling a dream by fighting and winning in front of a packed Windsor Park.

“For me though, my biggest career achievement has been my fan base and support. I can’t express how thankful I am to the army of fans who made those nights in the Odyssey so atmospheric, the 16,000 that saw me win my first title at home on that special night, the 15,000 who travelled to Manchester the night we took over and I unified, and the thousands that travelled to the States to watch me fight a great champion in Leo Santa Cruz.

“As a fighter, the support has been my biggest and proudest accomplishment. The outpouring of respect that I have received since my defeat to Herring has been immense and I thank all who have said kind words to me. They fill me with a huge sense of pride.


“None of this would have been possible without the support of my beautiful wife Christine and my amazing children, Carla and Rossa.
