Hi! All you have to do is join for free. Then, make sure that the topic you want to write about is well known, and have a list of reliable sources links to put on the article. As far as boxing, boxers who fought in a world title fight at least once (be it IBF, WBA, WBC or WBO or unified, undisputed titles-and in women's boxing, any of the sanctioning bodies like WUBA or whatever) are generally considered notable enough to be, as you say "approved" at Wikipedia.

Boxrec for example is considered a very reliable source by Wikipedia, so I always put links to Boxrec there.
