Adam Smith Commentary
Re: Adam Smith Commentary
Because increasingly people are becoming addicted to gambling. If they'll bet on boxing, they'll bet on netball and they might use Skybet.

Well have you noticed that they always name hurricanes after women? My T Sharp wrote: ↑20 Feb 2021, 19:32 So one netball team is named after a fire breathing monster and another after a violent disturbance of the atmosphere. I’m not saying anything ladies.![]()
It's because when they arrive they're wet and wild and when they leave they take your house and car.

I'd like to force feed him his own bollocks and wash them down with a gallon of bleach.fizzjambo wrote: ↑21 Feb 2021, 03:34Smith sounds like he’s soiling himself with excitement on a regular basis and has about as much gravitas as a stray dog curling one out on the pavement out the front of your house.Jimmy2020 wrote: ↑15 Feb 2021, 14:02Yes.
Whilst it's all very sweet and charming to give a voice to the earthy ex-fighters, you need a bit of class involved to keep things right and proper. A moderator if you will. Were Smith to expel himself from his commentary role we'd end up like voyeurs at a chimps' tea party in no time. It's the same when that vulgar nouveau who makes the fights is spouting at press conferences; Smith adds old money gravitas. Without that, what have we become?
He’s the single worst sports commentator I’ve heard in three decades of listening to any sport, which is a remarkable achievement. A growling, fawning, man-child who would make the any fight unwatchable.
I cancelled Sky years ago as it got to the point that when he was commentating I just switched the channel, and I’m a huge boxing fan.
I don’t wish him any ill but he’s fecking dreadful at what he does. Way out of his depth

When you see the decent even great, knowledgeable commentators that other sports get, like tennis, golf, snooker etc It’s a disgrace that boxing has to put up with this dimwitted clown.

Re: Adam Smith Commentary
I particularly enjoyed his predictable commentary after the Bridges Courtenay fight.
"What A fantastic advert for women's boxing!"
"And there's the respect!"
When he said the latter, my friend immediately texted me, laughing.....beating my own text by a couple of seconds.... are we sure Smith exists? He seems like programmed CGI.

Future generations of boxing fans are going to be watching old fights and really feeling sorry for us having to put up with his commentary.MightyWarrior wrote: ↑12 Apr 2021, 15:35 When you see the decent even great, knowledgeable commentators that other sports get, like tennis, golf, snooker etc It’s a disgrace that boxing has to put up with this dimwitted clown.
Re: Adam Smith Commentary
We've got DAZN now, not that the commentary is great, I like Paul Smith, but leagues above Adam Smith, you never think to turn the sound off watching DAZN.
Re: Adam Smith Commentary
I'm surprised more on the forum don't champion Alex Steadman more
He's the real deal...respect for the boxers and fans.
The days of Steadman (or Buncey) and Lillis in the allegedly studio for a live event were as good as it's ever been![[icon_notworthy.gif]](./images/smilies/icon_notworthy.gif)

Re: Adam Smith Commentary
I know its quite popular to slaughter Skys commentary, they deserve it a lot of the time, apart from Andy Clarke most of them are either bias, wrong or bring nothing intersting to the table but i can't really see how anyone thought Bridges won that, i thought Courtenay won 97-93, nothing wrong with the Benn/Vargas stoppage either

Re: Adam Smith Commentary
Steedman is a true pro. Surprised BT haven't used him to be honest. Rawling is sounding dated these days.
Smith is just too over the top, trying to hard to be assoicated to a big moment in sport, almost as if he wants his commentary to be synonomous with big fights. "Lift off for AJ!" etc
Costello is excellent but probably best suited to radio.
I truly believe Hearn is going to DAZN, espeically after a recent IFL interview, Will we see Smith, Robinson et al trying to jump ship with Eddie?
