I wonder are there any fighters who won a world title but never actually beat anyone else who held a world title - in other words it was a vacant title? Different question but must be one!

Chris should have watched Calzaghe doing a demolition job on Dean in the ABA's. Could have prepared him for the beating he got from Joe.

He beat Tommy Ryan (and possibly other world champs without looking his record up)

Beginners don’t get that far in the abas. They’re not allowed to even enter until they are open class.

Plus, Joe was 20, a year after winning them at 19. This was Joe with his hands good, imagine the damage he’d have done in the pros if they held up! Especially to those he floored! I suppose it doesn’t matter, he’s still the UK’s greatest ever Super Middleweight ahead of Froch.

I hadn’t realised Tommy Ryan was a legitimate world champion.

Deffo been a few of these, Kwanthai Sithmorseng being one such applicable answer. Don't think Samuth Sithnaruepol did either tbh.

Martin Murray springs to mind as a good 'modern' answer. Very unlucky that the scorecards didn't go his way in any of his biggest fights, and was never matched with a faded former belt holder either. Not necessarily the best, but a very solid fighter.

I was sure I had another one with Scott Quigg who got his belt by beating Rendall Munroe, getting 'upgraded' from interim, then drawing with a Cuban guy who also had never held a world title. But I forgot he faced Kiko Martinez before the Frampton fight. I imagine Kiko rules out a whole bunch of guys, he's been around the European scene for a while now.

Liam Smith is another one. Sorry, this has just turned into 'any Brit in the 4 belt era who's got their hands on a world title without ever beating another world champ' which is still a really hard question to answer! Of course if Liam Williams upsets Andrade tomorrow then he's off the list.

Errol Christie and Dean Francis were leagues upon leagues above Jamie in ability.

As good as anything we’ve seen on these shores in terms of potential/talent. Ever.
