Regis Prograis vs. Ivan Redkach - April 17, 2021

Post by Ruthless-RKO »

Jake Paul vs Askren: Regis Prograis reportedly set to face Ivan Redkach on Triller PPV card

It looks like Triller is really looking forward to making a run in this boxing thing. Mike Coppinger’s sources say that former junior welterweight titleholder Regis Prograis (25-1, 21 KO) will be taking on Ivan Redkach (23-5-1, 18 KO) on the April 17 Triller PPV card, which will be headlined by Jake Paul vs Ben Askren and feature Antonio Tarver vs Frank Mir.

Prograis himself seemed to confirm the report on his own social media account. It should be noted that Triller’s recent winning bid for Teofimo Lopez vs George Kambosos Jr will be held on a separate card.

But with the recent moves by Triller it’s clear they’re looking to really make a play into the sport of boxing, shaking up the landscape a bit — at least in the short term. How that plays out over a longer period of time remains to be seen.

Prograis, 32, last fought in October, stopping Juan Heraldez in three rounds, his first fight since losing a close unification bout with Josh Taylor. Meanwhile Redkach, 34, is most recently coming off a unanimous decision loss to Danny Garcia over a full year ago. Since then Redkach had been in a social media rift with Gervonta Davis over some leaked sparring footage, while Prograis has been caught up in his own rift with Adrien Broner. But instead of those beefs turning into actual fights, Prograis and Redkach will get one another.

Prograis: I Called Jake Paul, Others Clowns; Now I Realize They're Bringing More Eyes To Boxing

Regis Prograis is man enough to admit he was wrong.

The former WBA super lightweight champion has publicly referred to Jake Paul and other YouTubers as “clowns,” circus acts that are bad for legitimate boxers. Prograis realizes that he was shortsighted, that having inexperienced, popular fighters attract viewers who wouldn’t otherwise watch elite-level boxers like him is great for the sport.

It helps, of course, that Triller will pay Prograis approximately three times as much for his April 17 fight against Ivan Redkach than the New Orleans native earned for his third-round stoppage of Juan Heraldez on the Gervonta Davis-Leo Santa Cruz pay-per-view undercard October 31 at Alamodome in San Antonio.

The 10-round, 142-pound bout between Prograis (25-1, 21 KOs) and Ukraine’s Redkach (23-5-1, 18 KOs, 1 NC) will be the co-feature of Triller’s pay-per-view show next month. Social media sensation Jake Paul and former UFC fighter Ben Askren will square off in the main event, an eight-round cruiserweight boxing match.

“To be honest, I actually Tweeted some sh-t I think when Jake Paul was fighting another YouTube fighter,” Prograis told Boxing Scene. “I was critical of them. I was like, ‘They’re clowns,’ and stuff like that. But, you know, you’ve just gotta sit down and realize they’re bringing more eyes to the sport, people like that. And at the end of the day, that is the goal.

“Being a boxing historian, like I am, sometimes you don’t wanna see it. You don’t wanna make a mockery of your sport, like a circus. But at the same time, if you’re gonna have fighters on like myself, that are gonna be in real fights, I think it’s a good thing because it’s bringing a whole new audience to boxing.”

The 32-year-old Prograis likened the attention drawn by Jake Paul and his brother, Logan Paul, to Muhammad Ali fighting professional wrestler Antonio Inoki in June 1976 and George Foreman facing five opponents in one night in April 1975.

“It’s just a different form of entertainment,” Prograis said. “And at least they’re gonna have real boxing on it, too. So, like I said, it is a good thing to have a different fan base. Jake Paul and Logan Paul, they have millions of followers and a huge social media presence. A lot of kids don’t tune in to [boxing]. They focus on the little screens, their phones. Now, they’re gonna be tuning to this. So, it’s definitely a market and I’m glad I’m a part of it.”

ESPN, DAZN and Showtime all have either televised or streamed Prograis’ fights over the past 5½ years. While appreciative of how those outlets have helped promote him, Prograis expects his upcoming appearance on Jake Paul’s undercard to broaden his fan base significantly.

“This is gonna be huge,” Prograis said. “This fight actually might do more for my career, as far as publicity, than all the other fights combined. Of course, that’s if everything goes as planned – if the fans tune in. It’s just a whole different type of fan base. I’m just excited about it.”

Prograis went from nearly fighting Hooker in April 2020, to then nearly fighting Shohjahon Ergashev .. at the same time, Hearn offered him Pablo Cesar Cano.

Then he signed with PBC and is now fighting Redkach.. The one used for a standard win..

Gervonta Davis recently said on Twitter that he'd beat Prograis' ass. I'd love to see him try.

Jake Paul vs Ben Askren heads to Atlanta, Mercedes-Benz Stadium to host April 17 PPV fight

The April 17 Triller Fight Club pay-per-view headlined by Jake Paul vs Ben Askren is officially set for Atlanta, with Mercedes-Benz Stadium — home of the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons — to host the event.

“Our vision of big fights, big entertainment and world class events can only fit into a world class venue, and Mercedes-Benz Stadium fits that vision,” said Triller’s Ryan Kavanaugh. “April 17th will have an element of surprise and action for everyone, from music fans to the casual and diehard fight fan. The way we will present the night in this state-of-the-art venue will continue to redefine consumer engagement for a global consumer.”

If you’re a normal person and your eyes gloss over at things like “redefine consumer engagement for a global consumer” it just means there will probably be two or three mini-concerts between fights, one of which will be Antonio Tarver vs Frank Mir, and another of which will be Regis Prograis vs Ivan Redkach. Those are reports from media, and were not mentioned in the official release, I should say.

The Paul-Askren event is being advertised as a four-hour show, which will start at 8 pm ET on Saturday, April 17. All the traditional pay-per-view outlets will carry the show in the U.S. and Canada, and FITE will be backing online sales for those who don’t have cable or satellite.

What a mismatch. Well, maybe good for Prograis after the lay-off, etc.

Triller announces musical performances by Justin Bieber, The Black Keys, Doja Cat, more

The Triller Fight Club show has its musical performers set

If you watched last November’s Mike Tyson vs Roy Jones Jr exhibition bout pay-per-view, you know Triller is coming at boxing pay-per-view shows as more of a full entertainment spectacle than just a series of fights.

There were musical performances last November, and there will be on April 17 when Jake Paul headlines in a fight against Ben Askren.

Triller has announced that Justin Bieber, The Black Keys, Diplo and Major Lazer, Mt. Westmore (Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube, E-40, and Too $hort), Doja Cat, and Saweetie will all perform at the event.

This is not the sort of thing the diehard boxing audience much cares about, but it’s clear that Triller are trying to reach far beyond the 500,000 or so “diehard boxing fans” in the United States. And this is going to be happening whether you like it or not, so there’s the information. Now you’re prepared for what you’ll see or wander off from while you put the show on mute and make another drink or whatever.

And hey, how many chances do I get to put The Black Keys in as the story image?

Redkach is a pu$$y. Not just took a dive from a missed shot, but pretended to be hurt low and rolled on the floor like a b!tch.
