Jake Paul: I Have Early Signs Of CTE, My Brain Is On The Line For Boxing
Gen Z and the boxing public alike are used to Jake Paul dishing out headline-grabbing material.
His latest exposé ahead of his third professional boxing match Saturday night versus Ben Askren on Triller pay-per-view was a startling proclamation relating to his mental health.
“You know, it’s a dangerous sport. And that’s why, when people question my dedication to it, it’s like, I’m showing up every single day. I’m putting my mental health on the line, my brain is on the line … I’ve gone and gotten brain scans and have early signs of CTE,” Paul said during a press conference Thursday. “But, I love this sport and wouldn’t trade it for anything else. And I’m a fighter and people will see that. Whether it’s after Saturday night or whether it’s a year from now, they will see that I’m a fighter.”
Actively competing in combat sports with signs of CTE is certainly an issue that Paul should be taking seriously. The 24-year-old content creator turned KO artist did expand much further on the subject of CTE.
However, Paul did continue ramping up the promotion of his main event fight with the former MMA champion Askren.
Paul even compared his ascent in boxing to be far greater than the recently anointed fighter of the decade.
"I'm in my third pro fight, I'm fighting eight rounds, headlining one of the biggest pay-per-views that could happen this decade," Paul said. "If you look at Floyd Mayweather, his third fight was six rounds, he got paid $7,000 and I don't think anyone in this room probably watched it."

Jake Paul will end up making a few mil after PPV sales.
It’s some of these purses that will piss boxers off. But hey ho, you need to have that appeal.
Happy for Prog, gets a decent payday and massive exposure.

-Mir making 350,000? he has won 3 of his last 11 in mma, is in his 40s, hasnt knocked someone out since 2015, was always better at submissions than striking, has 7 fans... how?
-fournier making 220,000? what? i dont even recognise the name, but based on his boxrec he had never fought a pulse, got a drugs ban, and hasnt fought in 5 years... based on that his purse should be about 50 bucks and a pack of smokes... and he is making 220,000 to fight a singer on debut? fornicating what? (ok he is obviously famous outside of boxing), weirdly acording to wiki he got paid 2 million quid to change his boxing nickname to "the duke" so based on that 220,000 dosent sound as good anymore.

yea can get about 1/4 odds on cunninham by stopage, i mean cunningham should smash him to bits, but he himself is 44, inactive and a tiny heavyweight. if he hs stayed i the gym then it will be a massacar, but if he has been on the couch it should just be a stock standard beating.

Cunningham looks in great shape but is 206lbs. Mir is over 270lbs and looks huge and in good shape as well. But surely Cunningham, although he sounds a bit punch drunk, should explode sharp punches all over Frank.gregregegg wrote: ↑17 Apr 2021, 01:24yea can get about 1/4 odds on cunninham by stopage, i mean cunningham should smash him to bits, but he himself is 44, inactive and a tiny heavyweight. if he hs stayed i the gym then it will be a massacar, but if he has been on the couch it should just be a stock standard beating.

Yea I have cunninham by ko in a multi.accumulator. Even as an old man should be way to sharp. Yeah I bet big on Paul. Put Steve in one accumulator. Askren is 12 years older, has had serious hip surgery and has a dad bod with women’s hips, love handles and a pot belly. His fighting weight was 170lbs. Paul is a natural 190lbs. He knows he’s getting beaten and kind of admits it with all his talk of chocking Paul out etc. Jake has trained hard in boxing, and his timing and power are decent. Im on paul too, but an interesting thing to note, although askrins body looks terrible, it always has, and when he fought in one Fc (without weight cutting) his weight was 185, so he isnt much over that.JamesPhilips wrote: ↑17 Apr 2021, 07:39Yeah I bet big on Paul. Re: Askren vs Paul
That’s a good point. But I just see Paul bouncing hard, accurate shots off Askren’s big head and just overwhelming him. It’s not like Ben’s going to be moving much with his hip. It’ll be a massacre in my opinion. Askren is basically retired and can’t turn down half a mill. He may lose a little dignity but in the end he won’t be remembered for this. He has plenty of excuses he can make afterwards.gregregegg wrote: ↑17 Apr 2021, 07:44Im on paul too, but an interesting thing to note, although askrins body looks terrible, it always has, and when he fought in one Fc (without weight cutting) his weight was 185, so he isnt much over that.JamesPhilips wrote: ↑17 Apr 2021, 07:39Yeah I bet big on Paul. Yea tend to agree, i dont think first couple, more midway for me stopage for paul. ben askrin is just not a boxer. i think if askrin boxed from the day he was born he wouldent be a boxer... great at what he does but seems very slow twitch, but methodical and strong.JamesPhilips wrote: ↑17 Apr 2021, 07:50That’s a good point. Slow twitch is exactly it. Paul starts fast though which is why I can see Askren’s head getting pummelled with hard shots and getting put over spectacularly. People talk about his chin, but in the first round fighters can be vulnerable. I think he’s gonna get bombed out in 1-2 rounds.gregregegg wrote: ↑17 Apr 2021, 07:55Yea tend to agree, i dont think first couple, more midway for me stopage for paul. ben askrin is just not a boxer. i think if askrin boxed from the day he was born he wouldent be a boxer... great at what he does but seems very slow twitch, but methodical and strong.JamesPhilips wrote: ↑17 Apr 2021, 07:50That’s a good point. Re: Askren vs Paul
You better hope so. Askrin took a massive amount of shots from Robbie Lawler, a bonafide elite-level puncher, in the opening of their fight, and still went on to stop Robbie later that round by submission. You're pretty ballsy to bet on this. Paul is too much of an unknown. But we do know that Askrin is a world-class competitor. I have no idea who is going to win this.JamesPhilips wrote: ↑17 Apr 2021, 08:24Slow twitch is exactly it. I'm not.
Interesting times we are living in. The times of paying to see elite-level athletes looks to be waning, while social media personalities with little skill are beginning to come up. I see this trend only growing.

That said, will not pay for it. backing myself to find a stream, wont feel as bad as normal either, everyones getting shockingly over paid anyway.
