I've only seen him in the videos above & he does look shorter than 5'10" but it's hard to say how tall that Kazakh guy is that looks taller than Jones.oogiebe wrote: ↑09 Mar 2019, 20:12Thanks! Dont take it personal dude!
Criticizing an ugly fight for what it is is NOT hating. There were others cracking on Jones for "only fighting a 4-rounder in his pro debut" & claiming he was "not a wrestling champ" that I was referring to. Mayweather & Ward (and many others) were Olympic medalists and debuted in 4-rounders!!
Re: Heralded prospect Otha Jones III makes pro debut Tonight on DAZN
tbf i dont see the 4 round thing as hate....though jones ended up 6 rounds
perhaps its somethng across boxng that hghly accomplshed ams should be matched a bit longer/tougher to start out. we see that in japan and they do very well still . jones was on for 6 and the opponent was not bad at all though compared to usual debuts in the us...so that was pretty good in that regard tbf

Yeah they did, still don't see the point in it such accomplished amateurs not starting higher up than 4 rounders (again this is probably because i follow Japanese boxing a lot and fighters with aby sort of amateur pedigree start in 6 rounders as standard). Though I've never hidden the fact that i like to see touted amateurs being fast tracked *shrugs*maybe i just expext more of prospects who get hype, and why I'm big on the World of Boxing Uzbek prospects and the Eye of the Tiger Management Kazakh'sBest Coast wrote: ↑09 Mar 2019, 20:31Dont take it personal dude!

Let's see I live in the Toledo area, I was a wrestler too, still pay attention to and root for the local wrestling teams.
I read philly's article and it's talking about a 4 time state champion from Toledo that I've never heard about.
That got my attention,
How did I miss a four timer from Toledo? He would have been all over the local sports news.
So I checked the list of state champs and didn't see his name. Never thought about before high school or even before junior high.
Just watched his debut..........six rounds lol.............................his opponent was much more durable than what a lot of prospects see their first pro fight.
I he is successful I hope he headlines some fights at the Huntington Center like Easter did.

Maybe he wasn't referring to you? The first fight I posted wasn't just ugly, it was a loss for Jones. Maybe no one watched it!
Re: Heralded prospect Otha Jones III makes pro debut Tonight on DAZN
Fair points! My wrestling coach made me go out for the golf team, as he was put in charge. Best move I've ever made! LOL!Perseus wrote: ↑09 Mar 2019, 20:43 Let's see I live in the Toledo area, I was a wrestler too, still pay attention to and root for the local wrestling teams.

You are probably the closest follower of the Japanese scene here & I always appreciate the Japanese prospects you mention (Shigeoka, Fuse, etc). Japanese boxing has its own unique traditions but that doesnt make 4-rounders pointless...some rookies benefit from them.Boxing Prospect wrote: ↑09 Mar 2019, 20:39Yeah they did, still don't see the point in it such accomplished amateurs not starting higher up than 4 rounders (again this is probably because i follow Japanese boxing a lot and fighters with aby sort of amateur pedigree start in 6 rounders as standard). BTW Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan are flooding the pro ranks in unprecedented fashion...both in number of top-notch amateurs and quality of the fighters too!! I am thinking about doing a separate thread topic on Central Asian prospects flooding the pros because it has been a steady stream since the 2016 Rio Games!!

A lot of those "rookies" that start in 4 rounders were rookies, not amateur standouts (in Fuse's case he was involved in the Japanese Rookie of the Year tournament, had no notable amateur success). Big different IMO between Rookie and amateur standouts. Some top amateurs will benefit but I suspect most will benefit from what Otha just had, and credit to the opponent as well for not just turning upBest Coast wrote: ↑09 Mar 2019, 20:56You are probably the closest follower of the Japanese scene here & I always appreciate the Japanese prospects you mention (Shigeoka, Fuse, etc). Would love to see a thread about the cental Asian guys! Quite a lot out there, and I suspect we're only seeing the first wave (similar with the Ukrainians). A few interesting Tajik's and Kyrgyzstan fighters too.

otha took his first loss today, after a draw in his previous fight.
raymond ford had a draw recently too
artur biyansolov was in a tough fight vs good amateur and unbeaten pro prospect israel mercado, but came through with a md
these north american dazn prospects are being put in tough ones

Its been pretty obvious from the start otha Jones is not good. has a robbery, a draw and now a loss on his record all at a very low levle. He is 21, so heaps of time, but if you are losing to this levle, thats a long rebuild to the top... like 10 low low low levle fight while you learn to box pro mainly in the gym.
Dont have a problem with the match making though, you gotta belive your prospect is good enough for that levle..

i wonder what best coast thinks, he called anyone who wasnt sucking otha's nuts a hater
Re: Heralded prospect Otha Jones III makes pro debut Tonight on DAZN
I love the fact that dazn routinely matches their prospects with opponents that show up to win vs showing up just for the check.
Plenty of "heralded prospects" getting beat on their shows.

Hard to imagine he can still hold that stance, understandable when he was fresh out of amatures. but now he is 5-1-1 probably should be 5-2 even conceivably be 4-3... never fought are any kinda of level. only has 2 stoppages and the guys that were trash and currently have 15 stoppage losses between them...

Hearn signs these guys.. As soon as they lose, he just drops them.
Happened to a few boxers when they signed with Matchroom Boxing USA
