True, sad but true.
but why joyce is being hyped of the back of the dubious win which wasnt one sided , considering dd eye busted badly
Joyce’s jab caused Dubois eye to bust. It’s a legitimate stoppage win.

It was pretty one sided in my view despite the scores. Joyce beat him up and stopped him, legitimately. Joyce rode Dubois' shots, never looked especially bothered, and was incredibly accurate with the jab.

Ignore the commentary and just look at Dubois' corner. They were losing from the midway point and knew it. Was Dubois competitive? Maybe. I just think Joyce is world class and Dubois has some learning to do.

We won't know 100% until Joyce beats somebody in the top ten. But I think he will. And considering the old geezers that are still top 10 and need to be removed, Joyce could well make top 5 in his next fight. Joyce would beat ancient Pulev, ancient Povetkin and ancient Ortiz.

It was an odd one in that I think Dubois was up on the scores throughout the fight however you could see with how heavily he was breathing and the damage to the eye compared with how little Joyce was blowing and the fact he had absolutely no damage at all to his face. I don’t know but after round two when he took a few punches I was confident of the Joyce win.

Only in boxing can a domestic fighter who lost get a world title shot before the fighter that beat him. Same thing happened with John Murray losing to Kevin Mitchell

That's fair enough. But I'm guessing he was only fighting as a senior for what a year? Maybe a little more before turning pro. He was already physically imposing at 18 years old so I'm guessing those physical advantages were only enhanced at youth and junior level.

I'll hold my hands up, I have a martial arts background, not boxing. But fighting at junior level is very different to fighting against men.

Some might call this 20-20 hindsight but I don't see how matching Dubois with a Fujimoto in his 14th fight is preparing him to step up for his 16th fight with a guy as experienced as Joyce (Am/WSB/Pro) who had far better guys on his resume.

And this talk about Dubois being up on the cards says more about Warren than Joyce

Basically I hope that Warren slows his roll a little with Dubois and matches him better before a run at the title

that's true, he only had a limited time at senior and im sure more experience will help him. i just wanted to point it out cuz a lot of people seem to think he only had a few am fights and turned pro not long after starting, when in fact he was a vastly experience junior am , started as a young kid, and did even win a domestic title and an international tournament (tampere) as a senior

I hope that is the game plan, because I question whether it is a smart move positioning Dubois so high up the ranking. I'm glad he is making a come back, and I think Dinu is a good opponent for him. But it will still only be his 17th pro fight (+ limited amateur experience), and they are trying to position him near the top of the WBA rankings. It kind of feels like they have not learnt anything from rushing him up the WBO ladder.

To me it looks like Warren is just trying to figure out the next quickest route to a money fight with Joshua
The only thing better than having some sort of managerial/promotional piece of the world heavyweight champ, is also having a piece of the guy in the other corner. I do think Fwank expects Fury to beat AJ both times they fight but he will have an eye on what is beyond that. He'll be thinking about Fury vs Dubois in 2022. DD could lose and still come again, but it would be promotional nirvana to have that fight happen, it ties up the belts for months, and you have total control. The rivals are on the outside.

btw, if guys didnt stay inactive for so long after losses these days it would do a lot to make losses less damaging

when a fighter returns with a win it gets their momentum back and you remember that they aint such a bad fighter after all, part of the problem with losses today is that dudes are sat on those losses, so that our last memory is just of them losing

If furry beats AJ twice he retires i think. unless between now and then someone blasted onto the scene as a worthy contender. It would require someone having a very very good next 12 months.

I think it would benefit whoever comes out on top to fight the winner of Usyk v Joyce.
Usyk and Joyce are both undefeated and both of Fury's and Joshua's generation.

I don't suppose Don King gives a monkies but he hasn't long left and in the books that will be written once he's gone, all this stuff is going to make a pretty sad ending to his promotional career. He surely can't need the money and he is carrying on like its the 1970s. He appears to have some legal hold over Lovejoy but it is hard to imagine a more counter productive manager/promoter for a fighter.

If you actually step back and look at it, how a boxer is developed, then you look at what King is doing with that guy, it is pretty unbelievable even in this sport. It's not like he's got anything lined up for him. Lovejoy has fought once in two years. I'm not sure when King signed him up, perhaps it was within those two years but any active boxer needs to actually get in the ring and fight.

King firing off his "cease and desist" letter to his own fighter, reminds me of that film showing Hitler in the Bunker, steadily losing his sanity and, from behind a desk underground, commanding armies that no longer even exist, while above ground in the real world the Russians steamroll their way towards Berlin.

Yeah that’s absolutely fair enough.

I guess it’s a case that the weaknesses that Dubois showed are a cause for concern to the point I believe they will flag up again. Maybe not against Dinu but there was a lack of being able to adapt.

Josh Buatsi is frustrating me because he’s so inactive however in his last fight he was possibly losing or having to overcome an adversity and he showed the ability to adapt to that, he’s shown he can adapt the plan. I think if Dubois is put in an identical spot I think he loses again.

well it will alawys be brought up no doubt about it , in away he could do with this fight being a scrap just to answer a few questions, yea Buatsi has looked shakey in his last couple of fights aswell though it showed he had some heart i would of expexcted him to be bashing them oppents out, were funny enough okile is flying at the moment , as if you would of asked me a few years back who looks most likey they will fight for a title would i of gone josh

"Der Untergang" is a great movie other than as an analogy for the case! King is absolutely delusional as of now.

Matchroom 1st, 8th and 15th.

22nd is Josh Taylor but still no mention of UK Coverage of that fight.

He was only indicating 1 or 2 in June and July so doesn’t look too many pending from FW.

Daniel Dubois Splits With Mark Tibbs, Hires Shane McGuigan

In a surprise move, heavyweight contender Daniel Dubois has split with trainer Mark Tibbs.

In the aftermath of suffering his first career loss at the hands of Joe Joyce in 2020, Dubois decided to split with coach Martin Bowers and began the hunt for a new trainer.

He eventually hired Tibbs back in February.

They were scheduled to work together for the first time on June 5, when Dubois would step in the ring with veteran Bogan Dinu.

But the 23-year-old Dubois has now parted ways with Tibbs and hired a new head trainer in Shane McGuigan, according to The Daily Mail.

The paper indicates that Dubois decided to hire a new trainer after Tibbs informed the boxer's team that he has other commitments.

Tibbs suffered a big setback last week, when his fighter Billy Joe Saunders was stopped in eight rounds by Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez in their three belt super middleweight unification at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

McGuigan, while relatively young at 33-years-old, has guided Carl Frampton, George Groves, Josh Taylor and Lawrence Okolie to world titles.

Dubois (15-1, 14 KOs) is looking to rebuild his credibility in the weight class after the stunning defeat to Joyce.

He was ahead on two official cards, when a fractured orbital bone forced him to take a voluntary knee in the tenth round - and the referee counted him out.

While Dubois underwent surgery and needed months of healing, many fans felt he 'quit' in the contest.

Dubois suffered the injury a few rounds earlier and the eye was nearly swelled shut when Joyce landed another hard shot in the affected area. At that point, Dubois explained that his vision went dark. In order to prevent permanent damage he decided to take a knee.
