Gavin McDonnell vs. Andoni Gago - 23 April 2021
Spanish boxing venture MGZ Promociones reached a deal with Stefy Bull Promotions for Andoni Gago (22-3-3, 6 KOs)’s European featherweight title defense against Gavin McDonnell (22-2-2, 6 KOs).
The two men share an impressively similar boxing record in terms of numbers and age (Gago’s 34, Gavin 33), however, the British challenger is the more experienced fighter of the pair with two competitive world-title challenges.
The bout is going to take place on May 9th in Bilbao, Spain. Local puncher and 2018 hot prospect Kerman Lejarraga (27-2, 24 KOs) is expected to take part in the show, according to the promoter.

Press Release
Gavin McDonnell has vowed to return to where he belongs in boxing as he prepares to face Andoni Gago for the European featherweight title on Friday.
McDonnell (22-2-2, 6 KOs) challenges Gago (24-3-3, 7 KOs) for his belt on a Matchroom Boxing event in Barcelona this week, live on DAZN.
A victory would see McDonnell become a two-weight European champion, and the former world title challenger is confident he can take his chance.
McDonnell told Matchroom Boxing: “This has been two years in the making. We always knew we had this fight, now we have the date and I’m looking forward to it.
“I’ve always been in training and it’s just a case of soon being back under the lights. I’ve been there, done it and seen it all, and when I get back in the ring it will come second nature to me and I’ll get my second European title.
“I was having the big fights and was around it all, and when it’s taken away from you then you do miss it. I’m glad to now be back and this is a big title that will propel me back to where I belong.
“I’ve been really enjoying my boxing this time around. At first you maybe take it in your stride and a bit for granted, but now I’ve got this opportunity, so I’ll take it and I’ll soon be back to where I want to be.”

Never knew until this fight was announced that Gago was European champ at Featherweight, remember him getting stopped from Selby over here years ago, premature stoppage but dominated regardless, not sure if I've seen McDonnell since the stoppage loss to Roman, outclassed that night but assuming he isnt totally shot i expect him to beat Gago

Sandor Martin defending his European Super Lightweight title against Kay Prosper top of the bill, Martin's alright, beat Hughes convincingly, never seen Prosper before, nothing on his record to suggest he deserves a European title shot, any idea how this has come about, is he even with Hearn? Pretty baffling actually, he's English champ

Starts at 7pm tonight on DAZN if anyone was wondering. Lejarraga is on the undercard against Jez Smith at 154, didn't realise that, could be a tough evening for Jez but hope he does well.

Re: Gavin McDonnell vs. Andoni Gago - 23 April 2021
Tough to score R3
Kinda like Highie v Parker
McDonnell ‘shades of Ali” with beautiful boxing , but powder puff. Gago looking outclassed but doing real damage.
