Mikey McKinson signs huge promotional deal with Eddie Hearn's Matchroom Boxing
Mikey McKinson has landed a massive promotional deal with Eddie Hearn's Matchroom Boxing.
The Pompey Problem, who took his professional record to 20-0 by beating undefeated Chris Kongo live on Sky Sports Box Office last month, has now signed with one of the sport's leading promoters.
McKinson, 27, who claimed the WBO Global welterweight title after winning on the Dillian Whyte v Alexander Povetkin on March 27, will continue to be guided by his current management company MTK Global while Matchroom Boxing have now also come on board.
The tricky southpaw, ranked sixth in the WBO welterweight rankings, is excited to see what is now in store for him moving forward after signing with Hearn's Matchroom Boxing team.
McKinson told the Matchroom Boxing website: ‘Signing with Matchroom is the best thing that’s happened to my career.
‘It’s been frustrating times for a while, but I got my chance against Chris Kongo, and now I’m in the position where I want to be in my career, so I’m really excited.
‘I’ve worked hard for a long time. This is my seventh year as a professional and I have finally got something that I want.
‘When we were on the plane out to Gibraltar, Eddie Hearn said to go out there and chase your dreams, and I made it clear all week that it was going to be the Michael McKinson show. I’m here to stay and it feels good that everything I’ve said has come true.
‘None of this would be possible without MTK Global too. I’m blessed to have them backing me and supporting me, and for the first time in my career I’m not worried about getting big fights.
‘I’ve got full faith and trust in Matchroom to get me these big opportunities.’

Good for him. Unlikely to be involved in classics but you can’t fault his passion.

I would suggest that absolutely closes off any suggestion that MTK are going to be working directly with UK broadcasters anytime soon,

I've watched a lot of his fights from back when he was training in Ireland up until now and I find his fights very boring with no excitementarchiebald3 wrote: ↑23 Apr 2021, 16:16Obviously you don’t understand to art of boxingwatsupdoc87 wrote: ↑23 Apr 2021, 08:59 Unfortunately he's a terribly boring fighter to watch .
