April 19 1991 30 Years since Holyfield-Foreman
The 30th anniversary of Holyfield-Foreman fight was yesterday. This was George Foreman real big test on his comeback returning in 1987. He clearly lost this fight and was outpointed. He had his moments but was thoroughly defeated, He carried on and did not quit and 3 and a half years later won the title. This is what champions are made of. Evander Holyfield would become a great warrior. He also was proving himself as a heavyweight to be reckoned with. Historical events that also happened on April 19 are as follows 1993 was Waco Texas David Koresh and 1995 was Oklahoma City Timothy McVeigh.

It was a great fight. But, the great Evander Holyfield showed that he was faster at 28 than the 42-year old George Foreman.
People did not laugh anymore about Big George that performed well for his age, but was very slow. He had Holyfield in trouble a couple of times, but could not follow up because lack of speed.
It was a brutal slugsfest. There, I convinced myself that Holyfield was gonna beat the great Mike Tyson later that year in November, but the fight was called off because of Tyson's rib injury and then, of Tyson's well known rape charge.

Where did all that time go? Yes it has been 3 decades ago now. I really was a fight fanatic mega fan at this time. Boxing was really marketed well and at that time was still being shown on ABC Wide World of Sports and NBC as well on Saturday and or Sunday. I miss those days and remember them with much great feelings.

Feel very old too!
The whole George MK2 campaign feels more recent than it clearly is

A lot of people were surprised that Foreman was as competitive as he was. He landed much more than many thought he would. Holyfield had in him in a big trouble a few times but Foreman managed to hang in there. Even though he lost, this was one of Foreman's best performances during his comeback. Great fight to watch.

I agree. Foreman gave it his all and came up short. He was thoroughly and convincing defeated. However he did not give up proceeded forward and three and a half years later won the title. This is what champions are made of. Foreman at the time of the Holyfield fight was 42 years of age and just a year before that knocked Gerry Cooney out in 2 rounds. I think when George performed this well with Holyfield many agreed he was for real.Ambling Alp II wrote: ↑25 Apr 2021, 20:48 A lot of people were surprised that Foreman was as competitive as he was.
