Haye: Usyk's Team Told Me They Thought Chisora Had Won

David Haye, manager of heavyweight contender Derek Chisora, claims the team behind Oleksandr Usyk admitted that Chisora could have been the winner last October.

Usyk, in his second fight as a heavyweight, won a twelve round unanimous decision based on two tight scorecards and one wider card.

Two judges saw it 115-113, while a third had Usyk a little more ahead with 117-112.

"We've had many, many moments over the years," Haye told Sky Sports. "The high point for me, was the final bell against Oleksandr Usyk, in his last fight. He really pushed it and I was sitting with Usyk's team and they all looked at me and said: 'Derek has won that fight.'

"They were scoring it, they had Derek winning by one or two rounds, and they said it was a close fight, but we definitely feel Derek won that fight. I thought he won the fight as well, although the judges had it the other way."

Chisora is back on Saturday night in a crossroads fight against former WBO heavyweight champion Joseph Parker.

The winner will likely move a big step forward when it comes to a potential world title shot in the next twelve months.

Haye believes Chisora has a lot of life left in his body based on the performance against Usyk.

"Derek Chisora, who has lost 10 professional fights now, was able to push the No 1 contender in the world at heavyweight to the absolute limit and lose on such a fine margin," Haye said.

"That showed to me that okay, everyone thought he was going to get his head boxed off, that he was going to get absolutely annihilated, and he didn't. It was because he did what he needed to do in those training sessions to give himself the best chance. Although it was a lowlight, it was still a highlight to know that it can be done. He was very close. Hopefully what we missed out on last time, we'll be able to go that little bit further."

The reaction from Hearn, Bellew, Coldwell etc was laughable. I had it 10-2 to Usyk.

Haye now claiming Usyk’s team said Chisora won but a few months ago they apparently said it was a draw

i agree, i watched it off forum and thought usyk won easy after a good first 2 for del, was shocked to hear people talking about some great struggle that del boy nearly pulled off....or in some opinions apparently shouldve actually won lol

I just cannot get excited for this bill. It’s awfully uninspiring. I don’t even care who wins out of Chisora Parker. I genuinely cannot understand what kind of punter pays for this. And tragically, I’ve paid for most PPVs over the year but can see no reason to get this.

I wasn't going to but I've now decided I will. Why? Well, first and foremost, I'm a mug. Secondly, although Chisora v Parker isn't PPV, I do think it might be surprisingly good. I'm also looking forward to seeing Taylor v Jonas, although I think Katie hammers Jonas over the 10 rounds.
Bivol is likely to smash Craig Richards and I suspect Eubank will have it all his own way against Morrison. Tennyson is all action and going in against a Mexican, it's sure to be fireworks.

That said, I've pretty much suggested that three of the fights are going to fairly one sided...

At the end of the day I'm a boxing fan, nobody's forcing me to watch and neither am I being sucked in by the smooth words of Edward Hearn. I know exactly what I'm paying for.

The fact I've been paying £10 a match to watch Scunthorpe United this season, I reckon Saturday's £19.95 will prove excellent value!

Not this one, I've just been stretched too much paying 20 quid for shows like this and I can't be bothered anymore. Not one fight on the show appeals to me and the sterile atmosphere just kills it
