117-111 Edwards, boxed beautifully and had Mthalane chasing shadows nearly all night, made him look 38 years old, Edwards footwork was excellent, hardly stayed still, kept moving, switching, popping Mthalane with the jab, back hand and whipping in some nice shots to the body, really liked his bodywork, Mthalane kept pressing and threatening to catch up with Edwards but never really did, he landed occasional solid looking single shots but could never capture any momentum, Edwards tired down the stretch unsurprisingly after all the moving but had a good 12th to seal the deal, the only time Edwards looked vulnerable was when he held his feet too long but he always got out of trouble, Edwards fought the fight of his life

Really, really good performance by Sunny. And I dare say great news for the Flyweight division. Mthalane, as great as he's been, is not the fighter he was 2,3,4 or 5 years ago. Edwards, even with a somewhat dull style, will get some more attention on the division (at least in the UK and the US), and that's certainly a good thing as the division is a pretty interesting one (though one that is certainly going through serious transition at the moment).

MArtinez (26), Edwards (25), Nakatani (23), are 3 good youngsters, now we just need someone to dethrone Dalakian...

Fingers crossed we see Jay Harris in another big fight

Credit to Edwards for know it wasn't a shut out as well.

It's a fallacy that running away somehow equates good boxing. Infact defence makes up only 1 of 4 criteria. By running away you forgo the other 3, yet its hailed as some kind of holy grail by too many folk who just encourage more boxers like Sunny Edwards stinking the joint out.

ottke didnt most fights either, it's not an insult, ottke was a unified champ. you think many fighters will accomplish what he did?

i agree ricky , but sunny was making mthalane miss wild , then landing a clean shot of his own , is the reason i give him the rds not just running ,

Really strange division TBH, there isn't anyone who is CLEARLY above anyone else. Really not much to differentiate Dalakian, Nakatani, Martinez and Edwards.

Dalakian has had a fornicating AWFUL reign though 4 low level defenses, that mean absolutely nothing
Martinez has notched 2 defenses, with the one against Harris being a very good one
Nakatani won the title last year (supposed to defend against Acosta in a mandatory next)
Sunny's win over Mthalane is one that will look REALLY good, but it could be like Dalakian's Vs Viloria, a case of right place right time

I actually think Sunny was hitting way more guard than the commentators would've led you to believe.

I also think that it's a british thing that we rate performances like that so highly. The best fighters coming out of the US & South America, like Davis, Canelo, Roman Gonzalez, Teofimo, Spence, Crawford... none of these guys would ever spend 36 full minutes simply circling opponents and avoiding exchanges.

rick honestly i dont listen to commentators dislike them all maybe ive a big ego i know best, i do try to stay nutaural and of course there can bias i agree , but them fighters have power in there hands and tick every box available, that why we like sport though got to use your own skills to favour yourself

sunny was throwing tons of shots that fell short or hit gloves, the classic air punch routine, though overall he still defo landed enough to take most rounds considering how he made moruti miss

Fair play to Edwards, he beat a good champion. I had it 117-11.
Just a shame for him that he won his world title in an empty arena.
