Manny Pacquiao vs. Errol Spence in advanced negotiations for July

Negotiations are in the advanced stage for a fight between Manny Pacquiao and IBF/WBC welterweight champion Errol Spence for July.

Terence Crawford is no longer an option for the Filipino star.

ESPN Knockout is reporting that Pacquiao (62-7-2, 39 KOs) is now negotiating with Spence (27-0, 21 KOs) for a fight that will take place in the summer on pay-per-view in the United States.

The negotiations between Spence and Pacquiao are said to be in the “advanced” stage, according to ESPN Knockout.

Spence was recently said to be in negotiations to fight WBA welterweight champion Yordenis Ugas for July in a unification fight.

It’s unclear what happened with the talks between those two fighters. Ugas looks like he’s been living it up, celebrating being elevated to WBA champion outside of the ring after Pacquiao was stripped of the title for sitting inactive for two years.

He fought in my opinion a foolish fight against Porter, who by the way has an ugly style that is painful to watch, but is not lousy ffs. That fight reminded me of SRL wanting to beat Duran in 1980 at his own game in their first fight. Spence beat Mikey Garcia by boxing alone, showing a different dimension of his game. Although I think he cuts too much weight and should move up, perhaps lost a bit after his accident, there is no way Pac could win if Errol fights smart. Crawford is a worse style match-up for Pac. Pac should fight MG and retire. At least that is a winnable fight even though I think MG would outpoint him. Strict random testing makes Pac look ordinary.

I was a big fan of SRL. He was great, but also remember he was beaten in his prime vs Duran, who moved up from lightweight to fight him. and was behind by quite a bit vs Hearns when he got the TKO. If it was a 12 round fight, Hearns would have UD'd him easily. The Hagler fight was VERY controversial, with one semi-blind judge. SRL did what he had to do though.

I've never said Spence is on any of the ATG past guys level, but not recognizing his talent and calling him over-rated is laughable. Same goes for the comment about Porter. I think both Spence and Crawford would have been solid contenders in any era. If RJJ would have retired after his heavyweight fight, he would be my all time great.
