Still a one of the most exciting and satisfying fights featuring Ruiz.

that's a real classic one of the ten best heavyweight bouts of all time...top 15 at the least.

I don't know, i personally think a lot of so called great fights and fighters for that matter are overrated, by the time YouTube came along, their legacies were cemented, thats another arguement i suppose

It had drama, obviously, but it wasn't really a barnstormer and had a limp ending with the big bad monster sitting on his stool.

It was a sh!tty fight, just like the other ones in the trilogy. Maybe even the worst one, because of the pathetic move by Ruiz to pretend, that he was hurt from the "low blow". The sissy should have been counted out.

Hasim Rahman vs James Toney 1+2



Rahman draws with Toney over 12 to retain his World Heavyweight title, looked like he edged it but another dull affair, Rahman bringing size and strength along with better workrate while Toney brought speed and skill with little workrate, neither guy was that effective TBH but Toney landed the better shots, especially the right hand counter, he defence was solid as ever, rolling with the punches, Rahman's jab was his best weapon, it was only shot he landed consistently, finished a draw but maybe Rahman unlucky, he worked harder



Non title rematch ends in a NC after 3 rounds when a headclash cut Rahman's right eye, it was originally called a TKO win for Toney because it was Rahman who decided to bail but it was later changed to NC, Rahman started off well getting his jab off but start of 3rd the headclash happened and it clearly affected Rahman who kept dabbing at it, Toney began throwing right hands and even stiffened Rahman's legs with one, before the 4th could start Rahman said he couldn't see and it was stopped

He milked the low blows for that they worth against Kirk Johnson as well. One of the least likable fighters ever.

Samuel Peter vs James Toney 1+2



Peter bests Toney by SD, non title fight, Peter put more hands on Toney than pretty much anyone, landed the right hand constantly and hurt Toney as well a couple times, Toney backing up more than once, Toney had his moments as well, the rolling, slipping and countering with the jab or lead right, really cute moves and was happy to fight in centre of ring throughout, this could've went either way it was close but Peter won a split



Peter wins rematch by wide UD, another non title affair, he boxed well this time left no room for error, hurt Toney with a couple of rights in the 1st and him down froma left jab in 2nd, after that Peter just picked up points with the jab which was great, landed the rights again like in first fight, he just looked the boss at all times, Toney as ever made Peter miss with most and coming back with occasianal cute counters but never busy or effective enough to win the fight

James Toney vs Fres Oquendo



Toney beats Oquendo by SD in a non title fight, dreadful fight for most part, Toney hurt Oquendo witha right hand in the 1st and that was about as exciting as it got, Oquendo lost a point in 8th for rabbit punching, he'd been warned before but still a bit harsh as Toney would roll under the punches and it didnt look delibarate, it looked a tough fight to score as there wasnt a lot of action, Toney skilled defensively as ever but offered little, Oquendo busier but didnt land clean very often and for once Toney got the nod in a close one

Felix Trinidad vs Maurice Blocker



Trinidad KOs Blocker in the 2nd to become World Welterweight champion, a bit of rout, he was quick, sharp and hurt Blocker with a couple of right hands near the end of the 1st so the signs were there


Trinidad came out 2nd firing out the lightening quick combinations, hurting and rocking Blocker with left hooks and right hands, Trinidad KO'd Blocker with a left/right and he caught him with another left/right as he fell face first to canvas out cold

Felix Trinidad vs Maurice Blocker

Made me look-up Maurice Blocker again

The guy assuredly had a pretty decent A game....some handy wins and titles after losing to Honeyghan.
Must have been worked over though by the time he faced Trinidad; probably having been in with Simon Brown!

Blocker and Brown were friends IIRC. Had a decent fight anyway I think.

Felix Trinidad vs Yori Boy Campas



Trinidad gets off the canvas to stop Campas in th 4th and retain his World Welterweight title, great start from Trinidad working that quick left hand, jabbing and whipping in left hooks to head and body, in the 2nd Campas dropped Trinidad with the shortest left hook you'll see, must've travelled 10 inches max, Trinidad's legs just collapsed from under him, Trinidad recovered well but lost a point in 3rd for low blows, Trinidad still was looking super sharp though and in the 4th he opened Campas up with both hands, teeing off and finally ref stepped in as Trinidad nearly decapitated Campas with a last left hook/right hand, still Campas never went down, some set of whiskers

Felix Trinidad vs Fernando Vargas



Trinidad stops Vargas in the 12th and final round to unify the Super Welterweight division, eventful fight, 5 knockdowns, 3 point deductions and real quality and heart on show, Trinidad had Vargas down twice within a minute of 1st round, shook him with a big left hook then the follow up flurry sent him down, Vargas got up but Trinidad put him down again immediately with another left, Vargas then dropped Trinidad in the 4th with a left hook of his own then Trinidad lost a point for a low blow as Vargas was wading in, Trinidad lost another point for low blows in the 7th

The action ebbed and flowed and Vargas got docked a point for a low blow in round 10, looked harsh, still it didn't matter in the 12th Trinidad dropped Vargas with a monster left hook and had him down again straight after with the exact same shot, Vargas was reeling and Trinidad was never gonna let him hear final bell and when a huge right sent Vargas down a third time in the round it was waved off, a classic

Who do you feel is most overrated mate? A top 5 perhaps? Your prolific with the viewing so have a lot of respect for your views

Cheers Tam likewise too mate, i cant really think of top of head but i do think a lot of the old timers would lose today against guys who wouldn't be considered great, just because mainly the game has evolved that much that these guys look vulnrable and could be outboxed with little fuss, nothing aganst them really, if they fought today theyd be totally different boxers , i dont like guys with great beards and little power, you kinda know what your gettinf

Felix Trinidad vs William Joppy


Trinidad stops Joppy in 5 rounds to become World Middleweight champion, had him down at end of 1st with a sweeping left hook, not enough time for Trinidad to follow up, Joppy was down again in the 4th, Trinidad nailed him with a right then another sweeping left dropped him heavily, he done well to make it out the round

No matter Trinidad ended things in the 5th, a huge right hand decked Joppy and another to help him on his way, he made count but was staggering all over the place and it was over

Felix Trinidad vs Ricardo Mayorga



Trinidad stops Mayorga in the 8th round of a non title fight, cracking scrap, Mayorga came out blazing really putting it on Trinidad but he got rocked right at the end of the 1st, still Mayorga kept throwing and he scored a knockdown in the 3rd when a right hand had Trinidad's glove touching the canvas


Trinidad really began to take Mayorga apart and battered him silly in the 5th nearly stopping him, Mayorga was looking weary but was always dangerous in bursts, Trinidad got him out of there in the 8th putting him down 3 times before it was stopped, a left hook to the body creased Mayorga and he only just made count, a fast flurry finishing with a right had Mayorga down a second time then a left followed by 2 rights had Mayorga down a final time where it was stopped
