if he got credited for a kd in round 1 it wouldve been a draw on my card.......i do agree that if it had been in the uk, he's prob getting at least a draw even without the kd. just the way boxing usually works.

He would have to be the away fighter again and would have to win by ko. He knows this I’m suremargaret thatcher wrote: ↑07 May 2021, 18:27 if he got credited for a kd in round 1 it wouldve been a draw on my card.......i do agree that if it had been in the uk, he's prob getting at least a draw even without the kd. just the way boxing usually works.

Just watched this, good fight and very close, I had Smith 115-113 but can understand it going the opposite way. Plenty of entertaining exchanges, do quite enjoy Liam's style.

Liam hit him plenty of times. Kurbanov was hitting Smiths gloves more often than not and had decent head movement. I usually like the guy on the back foot but last night though he didn't do enough to win. I know it was a big ask going over there as it did seem set up for Kurbanov to winmargaret thatcher wrote: ↑07 May 2021, 18:12 totally agree, no idea what those people were watching if they think smith clearly won
i think they were under the impession that he was landing a lot better than he was.....kurbanov wasnt tough to hit, but he rolled with the shots well and liam rarely nailed him clean. you'd have long stretches where liam sort of just followed him around the ring, with kurbanov dancin and taking the odd pop or 1-2 while liam came forward not doing much. then liam would have his bursts, where he would land but not land much clean. kurbanov would usually respond with a combo of his own, it was tough to split

Re: Liam Smith vs. Magomed Kurbanov - 7 May 2021
never said he didnt mate, in fact i even noted that kurby wasnt tough to hit, neither was liam for that matter and it helped make for a good battle
you had kurbanov winning 3 rounds in total and had liam up 5 after 10......we obviously saw different fights. it was close enough to go either way by a point or two, but i did think kurbstomp edged it and i agree with the other posters who think robbery talk is ridiculous. my bet is that most people out there who think it was some unjust robbery were looking to score for smith from the start.

Smith started slow, as he always does, but he gave away too many early rounds.
Even Paul Smith only had Liam 4 up after 10

A decent fight, competetive, action-packed. I had Kurbanov 115-113. Kurbanov seemed more effective, he also hurt Smith more. Anyway, it was a good effort by Smith.

Agreed I’m just watching now, just like John Murray especially later in his career, Smith just seems to have little snap or speed in his punches so they’re very predictable and even when they land they’re quite easy to nullify by rolling.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑07 May 2021, 18:12 totally agree, no idea what those people were watching if they think smith clearly won

Speaking of which I’d like to see Smith go to the body more. He was a pretty committed body puncher coming up.

Re: Liam Smith vs. Magomed Kurbanov - 7 May 2021
Liam Smith not happy with the officiating.
Smith told IFL TV: “Whether you like me or you don’t, not one person felt Kurbanov won that fight. Anywhere else in the world I would have got that decision.
“I didn’t expect any favors from the judges, but the referee was just as bad. He warned Kurbanov seven times for holding, but then nothing happened. The more I watch it back, there is no way I can see Kurbanov even winning six rounds, never mind seven.
“It’s a tough pill to swallow, and I know it will be tough trying to get the rematch. There should have been the knockdown in round one too. I know he wasn’t hurt, but it’s a knockdown. He was punished for a mistake he made with his feet and he was hit with a left hook.
“I had 17 months out of the ring and it was 25 months since I made 154lbs. Taking that into consideration I feel that I boxed well. If you give me a fight in three months you’ll have a totally different fighter.
“Jessie Vargas, Tim Tszyu or the Kurbanov rematch are what I want next. The one positive is the Kurbanov fight was competitive and people were saying it was a great fight, but I still feel there was only one winner.”
