Yeah Kalle doing his nut on IFL interview today. $606k was winning bid. Hunter got 60% and had contract for 2 weeks and didn’t sign.

Said Kalle/Hearn everyone messed around by Hunter for weeks.

Crap purse got rejected.

No surprise there.

Lots of fighters, including Dillian Whyte have walked away from IBF eliminators due to crappy winning purse bids.

Crap purse ?!
2 or 300k $ ?!

They're fighters - they gotta fight.
Whoever wins is in line for 7 figures next time..

Hunter rejected other bids beforehand - he wanted to go to bid as he was sure Trilla or other promotors were going to offer more.

Matchroom were only bidders at $606k.

That wouldn’t indicate it’s crap if nobody else even bid for the fight.

It was also Final Eliminator.

A “crap” purse for a fighter is easy to evaluate.

It’s a simple comparison between what a fighter typically earns, coupled with their potential income from facing a variety of opponents (based on existing realistic opportunities).

Hunter’s typical purses are vastly superior than Hrgovic’s.

For instance, Dillian Whyte declined to compete in the IBF eliminator against Kubrat Pulev, because the winning purse bid resulted in him receiving a paltry $375K payday. So the Brit refused to participate and instead decided to face Joseph Parker for $1.3m.

So it’s monumentally stupid, to almost laughably bad proportions, to believe the winning purse bid allows us to automatically conclude that fighter’s will definitely receive a “good” (or at least a non-crap) payday.

I actually predicted Hunter’s refusal to participate in the IBF eliminator, because his payday (resulting from the winning purse bid) was fûçkïñg çräp.

I’m not Nostradamus, it was a hideously easy prediction to make, because only one conclusion seemed feasible.

Before you fabricate a carefully-worded imaginary creative rebuttal, read the post I submitted to this thread on the 21st April.

I don’t think it’s a massive shock but 400k and next in line if he win, not bad for hunter. Sure he can make more in his next fight possibly, but the upside of being mandatory if victorious is a pretty big upside. I quite fancied hunter to beat hrgovic too, so I’m a little suprised he didn’t take it.

As far as legacy goes, be a nice time to get a win on hrgovic. Inactive and plodding... I think he gets beat soon and relises he has to go back to less than 240 and gets back to boxing with a long successful career after....

Exactly :salut:
There is sweet stuff all happening in HW right now. The Fury AJ talks dragging on and on.
Belts are going to be tied up at least this year.
No point gathering rust.
Make hay while the sun shines, another win or two while the belts are tied up makes the fighter more saleable than one who has sat it out.

Kalle claims it was going to be in the USA, I wonder if that’s true, convenient he only mentioned it after hunter pulled out..
but if true This makes hunters turn down much worse. Absolutely get not wanting to fight hrgovic in Croatia, but in the states for 400k, in July, winner gets a shot at the belt... hard to imagine hunter has much better to do.
if he does fair play. If he dosent then what ya doing.

Hrgovic is in the US and has been there since Mid Jan to avoid any Covid issues etc so he was able to fight and started camp as well.

Was on US Dazn card was plan.

If I was a contender I would want serious money to fight Hrgovic because it's a risk that could deal a damaging blow to my world level status.

Joe Parkers name is now in the mix as IBF’s #5 ranked heavyweight

That was the logical next name for consideration. Parker is well known in the UK and a fight with Hrgovic there might well generate an offer north of 606k I'm thinking. Parker is no stranger to high level 50/50ish fights either and is unlikely to be hung up about the possibility of losing whereas Hunter is unbeaten at heavyweight and might feel he has more to lose.

Parker can stall, it’s just would 40 percent of a hrg fight be worth Parker’s time. Parker isn’t the best or most popular heavyweight, but he makes money... hope he is fit and hope he takes it, would be a super fun match up.

Hunter is gonna fight Mike Wilson on the Lopez-Kambosos Triller PPV on June 19..

Les meaningful fight, but he’s probably getting more than the $300k he was gonna get against Hrgovic.

they fought each other a shitload as ams

was gonna make like 370k + mandatory if he beat hrg, wilson is a much easier fight though so if he can get anything like 300k it's a good deal

It was over $370, not $300. I very much doubt he'll receive more for fighting Wilson.

Mike Wilson is a cruiserweight who was beaten up by a faded Lebedev. Wilson is age 38, and has been inactive for two years. He's never had single win over a top 100 cruiserweight! :verysad:

Triller have very deep pockets.

Hunter will be paid relatively similar sums to face Wilson than he would have earned against Hrgovic.

Equivalent payday - less risky fight.

Triller paid Steve Cunningham (a 44-year-old retired boxer that hadn't fought for four years, having only won one fight in 6 ½ years) $150K to appear on the Jake Paul undercard.

They also outbid Matchroom (almost double) and Top Rank (almost treble) to win the rights to stage the Lopez- Kambosos fight.

They're clearly willing to pay well above market value to establish themselves in boxing.

Risk and Return! :TU:

There's now a rumor that it will be Hrgovic vs Parker for the IBF final eliminator.

Interesting matchup, I hope it happens.

I can’t belive he is getting much of any over 100k for this, if he is fair play I guess.

Cunningham got the job because he was small and old, but they could mention he knocked down fury.. they did over pay like crazy on that card for sure, and on this main event. But this fight it soooo bad..

if it’s equivalent pay like you have mentioned that’s strait madnesses and I can’t really shottalk the choice. But then as someone smart once said, you make your purse in the fight befor,... hypothetical if he wins this or if he won against hrgovic what’s his next purse looking like?

I guess it's a no brainer: Same money for a guaranteed win over an absolute pushover, compared to a less than 50% chance of victory against one of the division's most likely future champions. It's hard to berate him for that really, it shows sound judgement ... if you're a business man that is.

And if you're a fighter? Well, let me just say this: I can't see Dillian Whyte taking the fight against Wilson rather than Hrgovic, but there again I can't see him taking a few hundred K to fight Hrgovic either. So in conclusion I'm not hating on Hunter in any way, i understand completely, but as a boxing fan with a special affinity for the heavyweight division, i'm bloody disappointed all the same.
