Round-by-Round: Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez vs. Billy Joe Saunders - 8 May 2021
Re: Round-by-Round: Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez vs. Billy Joe Saunders - 8 May 2021
I had Canelo winning but there was no doubt that he was getting frustrated. That said, it just shows how good Canelo is as he’s just made a very good fighter quit on his stool.

Saunders was fast running out of legs anyway. Amazing to see Canelo immediately know he was in trouble. He put it on him in the 8th
Saunders was losing the fight btw, he had 2 decent rounds.

I'm trying to give him the benefit of the doubt. Let's see what he says in the aftermath. i may reassess then.Nondescript wrote: ↑09 May 2021, 00:08Dubois's eye looked far worse and he fought on with the injury for some rounds before he went down.

I actually think Plant will provide the sternest test out of all the belt holders.

I hope we don't hear any more bollocks about being true fighting men from the gypsys.
True quitting men more like.

Re: Round-by-Round: Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez vs. Billy Joe Saunders - 8 May 2021
BJS won some rounds on my card though he wasn't winning the fight - Canelo didn't do much in the early rounds but when he did dig Saunders to the body you could see Saunders wince in pain or have that look of shock on his face - it was all a matter of time and he was going to get knocked out in the next round or two - that dog was barking.
So if he quit to save him from the humiliation of getting dropped or not - it doesn't really matter because cowardice/lack of heart wouldn't be his worst human quality anyway.
But apart from that, he did better than I expected.
Canelo is the JCC of the milenium - it was like a peashooter up against a Sherman Tank.

Corner pulled him out will the party line i'm sure. I'm waiting for Fury to explain the boxing lesson we were going to see..Nondescript wrote: ↑09 May 2021, 00:12Well he's not going to say he quit, even if he did huh.Jimmy2020 wrote: ↑09 May 2021, 00:11I'm trying to give him the benefit of the doubt. He'd have been going out to get sparked, so entirely sensible, but I'll be surprised if he doesn't throw his humble pie across the room like another chicken.
It didn't look fully closed, but I take your point.

Re: Round-by-Round: Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez vs. Billy Joe Saunders - 8 May 2021
The only round Saunders won clearly was 5. You can argue 1 & 7 either way but the rest were clear Canelo rounds. I gave 1 to Canelo & 7 to Saunders.
There’s no way on earth Saunders was ahead in that fight. Chris Mannix & anyone else saying he was are deluding themselves.
And he quit. Other fighters like Brook & Dubois at least gave it a couple of rounds fighting with a fractured orbital bone before conceding. Saunders took the easy way out & with his track record he deserves every bit of abuse he gets.

you had rounds where canelo landed the best 5 punches, and people would give them to bill for pawing at air

I stayed up for that. Will never learn to ignore the bollox spoken in the build ups.
Re: Round-by-Round: Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez vs. Billy Joe Saunders - 8 May 2021
There's no doubt he quit. Dubois quit too. It's whether quitting in a sport to save your vision should be condemned or not. To me it shouldn't providing the person acknowledges the other person forced them to quit.Nondescript wrote: ↑09 May 2021, 00:12Well he's not going to say he quit, even if he did huh.Jimmy2020 wrote: ↑09 May 2021, 00:11I'm trying to give him the benefit of the doubt.
