I’ll say this. BJS fought with more heart than Callum Smith imo. His eye looks terrible. Perhaps he was justified for retiring/quitting.

78-74 judges scorecards were too wide for me.

Official scorecards at time of stoppage

All for Canelo.
Agree with that. 2-3 rounds for Saunders seems to be fair

The judges had it right.

Saunders deserves credit for making it a fight but it was not close.

Canelo fooled me at the end of the 7th. I thought he may be tiring. Not even.

Canelo took away Smith’s arms in the early rounds to be fair..

Not based on Beterbiev’s most recent performance.

By the Russian’s own admission, he delivered a “bad” performance.

call to not continue with a broken orbital bone quitting and proof once again how clueless you are.

canelo punches like a mule and saunders turned into the punch.

I agree. Smith looked completely lost. And absolutely no self belief.

When a boxer breaks that orbital bone, it seems that they know right away. If you truly aren’t going to fight to the death then every one of us is going to stop and give in. Especially with all of that money to spend tomorrow. None of us would continue so stop beating BJS up for not continuing. It was a horrible break in more ways than one. I thought he did fantastic.

I think people sometimes feel the need to award rounds to the lesser fighter based on them fighting better than expected instead of better than their opponent :bag:

Oh so now Canelo punches like a mule?😂. We need to dig out some of your posts. If memory serves me they go like this “Canelo won’t win a rd.” Etc etc

I’ve just rewatched the 8th round again.

Saunders was looking really good for the first 90 seconds. He was confident, letting his hands go and making Canelo miss.

And then BANG! The right uppercut landed and the damage to Saunders eye was instantly visible.

From that point onwards, Billy Joe stopped throwing punches. He was doing his upmost to protect the eye.

Saunders corner had no choice but to stop the fight, when you’re fighter is compelled to stop throwing (to protect his face), whilst also suffering from a severe eye injury.

Credit where credit’s due, Canelo deserved the win. He was leading on my scorecards at the time of the stoppage.

And Saunders was very competitive. He was getting better as the fight progressed.

I am disappointed about the injury though, because the remaining four rounds would have been very interesting, because (prior to the eye injury) Saunders appeared to have gained the winning momentum.

you can't continue to fight with a broken/cracked orbital bone/severly damaged eye socket... whatever it was.

if your jaw is dislocated/broken and you're crazy you can try to protect it by moving, punching covering up like ali or arthur abraham did.

with a fucked up eye like that there is just no going on. period.

props to canelo for his precision and power. one punch ended the fight.
