Soto/Takayama was a great fight ruined by a premature stopage in the 9th in favour of Soto, Laurence Cole strikes again so no surprises really, don't get me wrong Takayama took some clean shots throughout but the timing was a bit bizarre, the heart and chin of Takayama was great to watch, 37 years old as well along with inactivity and fighting at higher weight, massive props and you've gotta feel for him

Soto hurt Takayama in the 1st with a big right and hit him with same shot before round was out and TBH it made Soto load up from then on trying to land that one big shot, he head hunted a lot as well, still there was no doubt Soto was landing the bigger and more effective punches, Takayama though kept boxing and probably outlanded Soto in several rounds, he just didnt have the firepower up at Light Flyweight to keep Soto off, still Takayama's effort kept him well in it despite losing most rounds, he targeted the body and kept firing out the combinations, it was great to watch

Soto kept landing that big overhand right though and in the middle rounds was landing big left hooks as well, Takayama never lost heart though was never gonna go down without a fight, in the 9th Soto landed a couple of decent shots, nothing major and ref stepped in out of nowhere, i can understand Takayama was taking clean shots from Soto but that wasnt time to stop it, Takayama still had fight left

Lawrence Cole would fit well in with BBBC, a consistently horrendous ref

From memory it was close round with nothing much happened, Canelo's left to body far better than anything Saunders landed

Ricky wrote: 09 May 2021, 04:34 What planet are you people on scoring rounds for Saunders? He landed zero significant punches. None. Infact i think he might have got 1 dig in actually (a sneaky left hook on the break).

This was a masterclass in effective punching from Canelo, he was landing hard stinging body-ripping punches in every single round. It seems the effectiveness of punching is completely and entirely lost on what's left of the boxing audience.
*UPDATED*
Average scorecard based on over 30 users on our platform. BJS given 3 rounds, Canelo 4 and 1 even.
Think this is a pretty fair reflection of how the fight went.

Just having a look on Twitter and im surprised so many had Saunders up at end, a few boxing journos as well, I thought Mannix was only one insane enough, the masses are in agreement though, 5-3/6-2 Canelo

Very good interview. Tibbs opens the door for Billy saying it was his call.....stopped short a few times when asked about things, I guess those questions are more answerable when Saunders has had time to reflect and see where he is at with the injury and mentally as well.

Conway is one of the worst finishers you'll see. He really struggles to up his pace.

Had Canelo up by five or six rounds at the time of the quittage. Hadn’t even gone through the gears.

Billy Joe Saunders: “If my two eye sockets were broken, my jaw was broken, my teeth were out, my nose was smashed, I was not stopping until I was knocked out or worse. I don’t agree with a man taking the knee and letting the ref count him out.”

My God what a shocker, he was brilliantly out boxing the great Canelo there, after a very shaky start, and then disaster....was it a thumb...? Looks like he just panicked and quit, I suppose the official line is Tibbs wouldn’t let him out ...I can’t believe he did that after all the gypsy fighting talk. He might regret that forever, I feel sorry for him, he was handling it brilliantly up until that. The hardest game.

To be fair he wasn't counted out or dropped, the corner stopped it. I'm no BJS fan but if your eye socket is broken thats potentially a career ending injury, no shame in saving your eyesight, he has a life outside and after boxing.

Yep and Saunders would've knew that fine well when he had a pop at Dubois, today is a good day

It was a broken orbital socket? Well you can’t knock a man for quitting in those circumstances, no matter what they’ve said previously. But he will get a lot of stick anyway.
