Mmmm ....... Well i would suspect that from the 14 th to the 21 st century they would of adapted by now , most travelers / gypys i ever met were actualy English by birth , theres still an awful lot of thjem who dispite being born in England live in council houses not caravans , seem to have a irish traveller accent .. Actually my familly can be traced back to Ireland 1 generation ago but i'm not irishOiky wrote: ↑09 May 2021, 11:09 Romany heritage can be traced back to 14th century India, many similarities in romany words and Indian words, many travellers arrived years ago with different names and took on english names to help them get work and make them less suspicious to the eyes of where ever they was stopping at at the time
One example is the smith family, who's name is petulengro but they took the name smith,it's a big gypsy family but also a very common name outside of the commuity, this is for the work purposes and that I just mentioned

Some of the wealthiest people i know are Romany. No council houses, millions and millions of pounds houses.coneye wrote: ↑09 May 2021, 10:57Correct and even more so when most of them live in council houses , hence only being travellers because there gran and grandpa lived in a caravan ... Load of bollocks really ,chiggsy wrote: ↑09 May 2021, 10:49They are white europeans that choose to live a chaotic dysfunctional life style.Boxingcutsman wrote: ↑09 May 2021, 10:29
My wife’s a Irish traveller, my children are, my brother in laws and most family, nephews, nieces, all my in-laws, my own dad etc are Gypsy’s & travellers or of blood/stock,
Gyspys/travellers are not a raceit’s a great misconception, always any discrimination is called racism, it’s not, people always described them as a race, it’s not, same as Jews are not they’re own race.
And as long has the fighting spirit/never quit etc, from my own experiences in community is a load of nonsense, it’s a sport and something they’ve always grown up with enjoyed and taken part in and a way to settle differences but not this big persona and false facade that is portrayed
At any point they could send their kids to school, pay taxes and live a normal existence it is their choice not to.

Don’t see everyone piling on Andy Lee after his losses.

Just one thing it's only divvy programs on ch4 that have made people think that romany gypsies and irish travlers are the same
Both share some of the same traits, but both have different ways and different languages
Many years ago you wouldn't see a gypsy marry an Irish Traveller, and you wouldn't see them on the same site like you do in some places today, when irish travellers first started to move round England both sides didn't really mix together, and if there was some who mixed it was nowhere near on the scale it is today

Re: Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez vs. Billy Joe Saunders - 8 May 2021
BJS acquitted himself well in the fight last night. That said, I had it 78-74 going into the 9th. However, it appeared that he was coming on well from the 5th on and it appeared that Canelo was tiring and missing badly in the 7th.
I think that I was taken in, along with BJS, by Canelo’s strategy, which gave his opponent the confidence to make the decisive mistake that essentially ended the fight.
While the criticism of Team BJS choosing not to come out for the 9th was self inflicted by his braggadocious comments, I do agree with their decision. Fighting on under the circumstances was pointless, and could have caused irreparable damage to be inflicted by Canelo.
Now BJS can fight another day, if he recovers completely and chooses to do so. He comes out of this fight as a far more marketable brand than he entered the fight, due to his exposure to the Canelo fan base, and his legit competitiveness against the biggest boxing brand on Earth.
If he had fought on, he very possibly would have had no options going forward. I am very much interested in how his story goes from this day forward, and I am very likely to watch his next fight, based on his good performance last night, and the struggles he must face if he chooses to fight again.
Prior to this fight, I had no interest in him beyond the fact that he was finally getting a shot at Bran Canelo.
In conclusion; BJS lost the fight but gained market cap and options last night.

good post! Some of the comments here are a bit ridiculous. how eddie will wash his hands of him, how he'll never recover from it..... heard the exact same thing about bellew and just about every other Audley fight.ironbeard wrote: ↑09 May 2021, 11:45 BJS acquitted himself well in the fight last night. Boxing fans, being the bitchiest of all sports fans, let their personal feelings towards a fighter cloud reality.

The backlash has little to do with BS being from a travelling background, there is good and bad in all walks of life to a greater or lesser degree. Don't play the prejudice card !
Andy Lee is from a travelling background and is very widely respected. He's a class act IMO.
The difference is one's a sh1thouse and one isn't....and it's not Lee.
I don't think I've ever described a boxer as a sh1thouse. An accolade well earned by BS.

Traveler, race, group aside. He’s not a nice human. Saunders is gutter snipe.

People always speak pretty well about Tyson too, less so about his dad, but also pretty well about Peter
Re: Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez vs. Billy Joe Saunders - 8 May 2021
Which leads me to believe that the harsh words on here about BJS are not because he is a traveller but because folk don't like his personality.

Just seen a video of Tom Saunders (Billy Joe’s dad) getting properly manhandled by security. He tried to jump the barrier and run into the ring but some lump of security charged him back big time and it then kicked off a little bit.
No doubt Eddie will get the blame for it.
Tyson and Tommy Fury stayed out of it.

Sounds about right,a big part of his family wouldn't have been allowed into the states due to their criminal records.maverick23 wrote: ↑10 May 2021, 02:46 Just seen a video of Tom Saunders (Billy Joe’s dad) getting properly manhandled by security. Had it been in this country their would of probably have been a major disturbance requiring a large police presence.

I seen this on IG. The security guard probably didn’t know who he was.. why would he?
He just saw it as a fan trying to jump the barricade and enter the ring.
