I agree with Tibbs, the momentum was on Saunders side when the injury happened.

Canelo fought behind a very tight defense for the first 6 but he was visibly tiring.

What a shame! The last 4 rounds could have been fascinating.

Scary injury so Tibbs was right to stop it. The beef lovers response to it was rather difficult to watch though.

Sure can be a hard game, but nowadays surgery has come a very long way. Lord knows what they did 100 years ago.

I feel the same. he is all heart but I cant find a round to give him.

Box Azteca had Takayama ahead at the time of stoppage:

It was Canelo's fight since the start. Saunders began to make it more or less competetive in the 5th round, but in the 8th it went to the initial scenario. Canelo's superior power, handspeed and timing worked for him. A decent effort for BJS, no shame in RTD after such damage suffered. The better man won.

BJS was up 5-2 after the 7th...till the eye injury the 8th was up for grabs. The injury looked pretty bad and BJS didn't look like he wanted a legacy fight. Canelo WAS tiring and couldn't get to BJS with anything meaningful till the eye/thumb punch. Had Saunders continued as he had been he wins the fight in the general public's mind, but not the judges.

Quite a few close rounds so it's understandable that viewers cards are all over the place but the judges all obviously gave any close one to Canelo. I had it 4-4 giving an either way round to BJS so 5-3 would've also been fair on my cards.

Dislike both Canelo and BJS but it made an interesting fight. The fight itself wasn't amazing but it was interesting to watch as BJS posed more problems than any Canelo opponent over the past few years not named Golovkin.

For me the fight was OK, but not more. I was losing interest in the 4th round, as I was seeing Canelo being always in control, while there wasn't a lot of action. Since the 5th the interest was back, but there still wasn't much of action.

Problem? Nope. BJS got TKOed because he fought more offensively, that's not a problem, that's exactly what Canelo wants, because he is an excellent counter puncher with a power that above of any 168 pound boxer. BJS fighting more offensively exactly the reason why he got TKOed.

Callum Smith probably knew that, which is why he did less damage than BJS did but he didn't get TKOed like BJS. If he fought like BJS, he could land more punches but he would get TKOed too.

Really, it doesn't matter what you do if you get TKOed in the end, BJS probably suffered a major injury because of this, we don't know when he will return.

i dont think he won the 1st clearly at all, he basically pawed with jabs from too far away all round. barely landed any of them because he was pulling his shots and too far away, and the ones that he did were total weak slaps

canelo landed a really nice left hook body shot and had all the quality

He won it on every card ive seen. If you didnt think it was clear fine but he won it. 5th was his best round.

I thought canelo took rd 7 off and 2 judges still gave it to him
