Remember in 2016 was it. UK had 13 or so world champions.. across Matchroom and Queensberry.

I wonder how many of these have lost because Hearn got them the fight they want. A number of British champions have lost over the past few years because they've made a fortune facing the likes of Canelo as a big underdogs or have unified against other Matchroom stablemates.

Although this doesn't look good in terms of stats, the champions usually got what they were after.

I was wondering how long it would take before you came back to your favourite thread.

Would you rather the likes of Billy Joe/Callum Smith just fought random top 15 fighters and keep their belts or do you think it’s better they go after the biggest fights for the biggest money they can get?

The model of the 2000s when guys like Calzaghe, Maccarinelli etc. have really one sided world title fights is over and most fighters (and fans) want to see unifications.

Billy Joe fighting in front of 70,000 fans in the US received far more exposure in the U.K. than say Sunny Edwards did a few weeks back and Billy Joe is more well known now than ever before.

It’s not easy to win a legitimate world title now. If you look through the title holders in each division there aren’t many soft champions. 5 or 10 years ago you could do the same exercise and pick a good few out as being beatable. With top amateurs stepping up more quickly nowadays and fighters seemingly more willing to unify (not in all cases obviously) it’s not as easy as it once was to get a world title belt.

Agreed. Billy Joe probably only left FW because he didn’t or couldn’t make a Golovkin or Canelo fight. Eddie did that for him and he was well paid.

How many male world champs do we have?

Am I right in thinking it’s just 5?

Fury, Joshua, Okolie, Taylor & Edwards?

With one of Fury & Joshua to drop off that list when they meet & one of Galahad & Dickens to be added to it.

I’ve gotta say I’m worried about Josh Taylor. I would be very confident if he’d got McGuigan in his corner but seeing him with Davison staying in the same mansion Fury had before the poor performance against Wallin & racing about in sports cars & hanging around with Fury. It just doesn’t seem like a professional set up to me.

It also seemed like he spent most of his camp working at home in Scotland with his amateur coach judging from social media.

If you were promoting Billy Joe would you have taken him a different route?

Billy needed to cash out and test himself against the best.

If not now, when should he have fought the best in the division.

Eddie did his job.

We’ve still got FW though. His shows in May look good too.

Problem is though FW is becoming increasingly less of a player almost with each passing month..... Eddie is becoming the face of boxing and is getting closer and closer to achieve his dream of being a global leader. It is getting increasingly obvious that unless you are Tyson Fury - you need to be standing next to Eddie to get any type of attention.

FW should have been AT LEAST SHOWING himself working hard to get the Fury vs Joshua fight over the line - going to Saudi with Eddie, making the calls etc.

It will get to the point that a British title promoted by Hearn will get more attention than a world title promoted by Warren.

Is this the same Tyson Fury who took the time to appear on Eddie Hearn's podcast last week? Even Tyson needs Eddie at the moment.

True but Tyson can just as easily do an interview for this morning, could do a uk/us ppv without it being Joshua in the opposite corner.

The only boxer than can be a star without Eddie is Tyson, such a shame as it could be argued that the #1 and #2 p4p in the uk are not matchroom fighters

You could probably already make an argument that Matchroom are the global leader. They’re really the only promotional company to be doing shows regularly around the world, promote the 2 biggest stars in boxing in AJ/Canelo and are putting in the biggest shows shows in terms of attendance. They’ve still got an awful long way to go to get to the UFC like position they’re chasing though.

I don’t quite get why FW isn’t putting on more shows. No shows at all in May which is historically a fairly big month for boxing and, I think, just 5 shows in the first 5 months this year. What’s he and his team spending all of their time doing?

Yes Matchroom are undoubtedly the global leader...and Eddie has come such a long way from bring laughed at and the "who" comments from the states.....but I wouldnt go as far as to say he is a dominant global leader yet.....PBC and Top Rank still have their appeal and can get a fighter good tv deals and meaningful fights.
