Edith and Marcel

Post by dagosd2000 »

Two Lovers

Interesting comment today about Marcel Cerdan Jr. He tried to follow in his father's footsteps as a fighter but he wasn't the explosive force like his dad.He stayed close to home in France and wasn't even the best in his weight class losing to Robert Gsallois for the French welter title. His make it or break it fight was against Donato Paduano at Madison square Garden where he lost a dull decision.I saw some film on him. Typical Europeon fighter of his time-fought straight up pecking away and lacking a punch. The movie(which I never saw)was very popular in France. That's not a shock. Cerdan .like his lover Edith Piaf, were the great soap opera couple of their day. Piaf wanted to spend time with Cerdan's children after his death. It's been documented that little Marcel didn't take to the Kid Sparrow.Every relationship Piaf had with all her lovers ended when she eventually got bored with them. When Cerdan died in that plane crash(wanting to return to the U.S. to fight LaMotta because Edith was in New York and couldn't live without him)the affair ended not on her terms. She fell into the abyss after that.

In 2007 when when Marion Cotillard starred in the biographical "La Vie En Rose" she was absolutely fabulous winning the Academy Award for best actress.First foreign actress to win that award since Sophia Loren for "Two Women."

Not much is known about Cerdan in the U.S. Neither about Edith Piaf.I guess Americans when it comes to France are more into French fries.

Marcel Jr. on far right with Piaf after his father's death

Edith Piaf

Man, could she belt out a song :TU:

Are you an Anatomist or something ?
I'm not either but she appears to
sort of resemble
Simply Red aka Hucknail who is from Manchester (England).
and Julia Louis Dreyfuss from New Oleans.
or Andrea Martin (who is of Armenian extraction).

Before Elvis showed up on the scene Edith Piaf was the highest paid singer in the world behind Sinatra.
