Used to enjoy footie but money has really spoilt that , couldnt give a shit now who wins the league .
Last 5 years started to get into rugby but boxing is my top sport .
Dont pay for any sky / bt not even dazn .

Had a great discussion with a couple of the San Diego Legion players, on the flight to Seattle. Had 0 idea that there was an American pro rugby league prior to that.

I think a lot of people look back really fondly on that era. I was also really in to it back then but, on the whole, I don’t think the quality of shows then was better than it is now. It has to be true though that there was simply a lot more boxing on. We had Sky doing weekly shows (and sometimes twice a week), Eurosport doing bits and bobs and BBC/ITV doing bits and bobs. I remember going crazy when Clinton Woods beat Rico Hoye for the world title. A fight like that nowadays would be on a PPV undercard.
If there was a bad show back then it wouldn’t stay long in the memory whilst we’ve got one show on Sky Sports this month and none from BT.
If you wanted to see David Hayes early career you had to watch it on bbc grandstand around 1pm on a Saturday and junior Witter was on there as well and Clinton.
I remember Sky did have mid week fights on Thursday I believe I remember watching Macklin lose his first fight to Facey on a week day.
As for the Hoye fight I was ringside for that, was the first time I’d seen a fighter (Hoye) be like a rag doll for about 5 minutes after the fight ended just stood against the ropes, really hit home that did on the brutality of the sport.

I might be the only one but I used to love Friday fight night on Sky. I think there was over 40 shows a year. They had August off & then about 3 weeks for Christmas up to mid Jan but the rest of the time you’d got a show every Friday.
It was perfect for me. One title fight every Friday night & then potentially a second or a recap of the undercard fights.
I hate these stacked cards that are once a month that start at 6pm. I can never get to see the early fights properly with sorting dinner out & kids etc.
I end up missing decent British title fights & then you go 2 or 3 weeks without a show.
I also think it’s impossible to watch 5 title fights properly. I like to score the fights but it’s hard to give more than 2 or 3 back to back your full attention.
Like that Tennyson scrap the other week. That shouldn’t have been so early & I always remember Blackwell - Ryder been on at 6pm on a PPV undercard when it should’ve headlined a regular Sky show.
I’d be interested to see everyone’s age and amount of in-depth experience next to their posts on this thread. I don’t doubt for a second everyone is as hardcore as it gets, but I often feel I must be a bit younger and I still get excited for all kinds of bad cards or pay for a terrible PPV. I can understand why anyone would be frustrated with the product it has become, especially Sly Hype Machine and Mr. Barrera Morales

i reccomend to anyone wanting to try it.......go search up some prospects you've never heard of, from anywhere, and start following them. boom....there is some added interest there.

Boxing News has good and poor issues and I think Matt Christie has done a decent job.... but always too much space on women’s boxing which is in its infancy and doesn’t deserve the coverage it gets. Soon they will reduce the men’s boxing divisions at the Olympics to make way for more women’s boxing. And everytime there’s women’s boxing we get told ‘what a great advert for women’s boxing’ and get repeatedly told how good the fighters are and how exciting the fights are when our eyes say something different.
Plus celebrity fights and 60 year old boxers getting hyped. Mayweather vs genuine boxing novices getting airtime and on PPV.
Few big fights being made and feeble ones are on PPV just cos they feature heavyweights.... a female fight.... and Campbell Hatton who should be on small hall shows.
Pro boxing is a joke now essentially.

He had to be, already failed on 3 occasions to be crowned the champ, if he would have lost that probably no way back
