Good fight! That was a war. Impressive will and output shown by Fig. Respect to him but I feel like he's a fighter who will burn out if he doesn't improve his defence.

And we saw what happened to his brother. There wasn't that bizarre head-movement though, he just threw.

Yea fair comments. They have a style where they need to be in tip top athletic condition. If they don't do the prep...they don't have the skills to get themselves out of trouble.

he won the fight, he wasnt winning the rounds :TU:
Well I saw that his ring generalship was better because he was fighting his fight and that his aggression was more effective because Nery couldn't handle the power or pace.

It's subjective isn't it.
i mean, if you score rounds based on what you think will happen in later rounds or based on who you think will win eventually, sure, but taking it round by round i dont see how nery wasnt ahead. him looking spent in round 6 for example doesnt change him doing much better than brandon in the 5th

there are plenty of fights that give the impression that a stronger boxer will eventually take over, doesnt mean that we should just give them all the rounds from the start
No indeed not.
But it's often very subjective - judges all over the place here like us.

I totally get the "Nery was landing more clean punches" argument - no doubt, he was.

I thought Fig was winning on ring generalship and effective aggression because Nery was struggling with the pace and doing little damage. I was right (for once!)

Omar could not hold his weight down. Fulton Jr v Figueroa is a fight to look forward to.

You were right that Figgy won, but if that's how you're supposed to score fights it's a new one to me.

How does it work then if a boxer seems to be doing really good for 6 rounds, then clearly tires in 7 and gets stopped in 8. Should they be losing on the cards too since in the end the opponent got to them?

I think Fulton will beat him wide, Brandon will never stop trying but Fulton is the type who can exploit his limitations over 12 imo

No of course not !

But it's not ams scoring either.

Scoring a quality, high-volume fight like that is hard - sometimes it's fine to have different scores. I just sensed Fig was going back to the corner more pleased with his work and how the fight was going is all.

I am assuming that you are responding to Skansta. I had Nery up 58-56 going into 7.

I only scored 2 rounds differently from you two. It's not like I'm the myopic love-child of Terry O'Connor and Adelaide Byrd!

Doubt that performance will scare the living daylights out of future opponents that's for sure.
same here, very nice win but man did he ever look like a limited easy to hit crude slugger at times. vs the right type of opponent he's going to be a nightmare with his strength and tenacity, but i think fulton is wrong for him

I agree. Fulton CAN exploit Fig’s limitations. But, does he have the heart to execute on his potential v a beast like Fig? We will see.

I think he does. Brandon is a beast but he's already been held to a draw so it's not like he's some unstoppable rampager.

Nery was a lot smaller in there and overwhelmed physically; I think Fulton is a bigger man and has the athletic tools and style to stay away and avoid getting dragged into a fight that comes down to physicality. Brandon is a nightmare if you stand and trade, but very very limited in other respects.

I must mention that tonight is why I can’t quit boxing. Great show! Terrific athletes with great heart.

Fig is dangerous against anyone who steps in the ring at that weight.

i dont think your card is wildly off or anything, i just dont agree with looking at the end result and saying that it makes the scoring of previous rounds right or wrong e.g. that since nery got stopped in the 7th it shows that figgy did better work in round 2. the rounds should be taken individually and whatever happens in the other rounds don't matter.

A weight bully got bullied and didn't like it. Figueroa might be limited but it's not like Nery was some master boxer either. He looked awful last time out and looked even worse today. No gas tank for a war, despite going in with someone who was always going to have a war.

As for Figueroa, he fights to his strengths. His height and reach aren't his strengths, his power, work rate and physicality are, and he used them excellently.

Fulton and MJ are a level above, but had Figueroa tried to box with Nery he'd have lost. He had to break Nery and he did just that. He and his team got the game plan spot on.
