James Tennyson vs. Jovanni Straffon - 1 May 2021
Re: James Tennyson vs. Jovanni Straffon - 1 May 2021
Tennyson has good power but is very vulnerable. Farmer stopped him 6kos in 30 fights. Senkvos stopped him a journeyman and walsh solid domestic guy. Talk of world level opposition is to far fetched.

Yeah he’s a bit like David Price. Either knock you spark out or get sparked out.

They used weight drained as an excuse. It isn’t weight he’s chinny. Straffon hit him on the chin yesterday (not even around the head where everyone goes). His opposition since farmer til now has been non existent punchers, with a 10 percent ko ratio and under. Tennyson likes to bully, and will always come up short against some tough who can stand there catch shots (or take a few) and give back. Straffons biggest name in recent fights was a 43 year old Cecilo Santos. ANYONE with a solid chin and Mexican style with average power would have done the same.
Ps -Ryan Walsh is easily fringe world level and way above domestic

Great shout......the david price of the 135 division. Huge puncher but glass chin. Very exciting to watch tho because of this. Lets see Tenny v Campbell.....basically loser retires.

Strange how we have no real physiological undrstanding of what makes a massive puncher or a glass chin, and so many big punchers are lacking punch resistance. "Glass Cannon" is the term

ya ive always wondered myself about what exactly it is that makes a puncher or an ironmanGreenLightning wrote: ↑02 May 2021, 15:43 Strange how we have no real physiological undrstanding of what makes a massive puncher or a glass chin, and so many big punchers are lacking punch resistance. people say speed = power, but then there are so many slow guys with power, and lots of fast guys without it
the most common thing i hear for the chin is neck strength

Yeah strange that punchers usually have weak chins and fighters who have low punch power have iron chins like Wayne Mcullough, imagine if Mcullough had Julian Jackson punch power, probably would have been a mutli time world champion and beaten some bigger name.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑02 May 2021, 16:20ya ive always wondered myself about what exactly it is that makes a puncher or an ironmanGreenLightning wrote: ↑02 May 2021, 15:43 Strange how we have no real physiological undrstanding of what makes a massive puncher or a glass chin, and so many big punchers are lacking punch resistance. GGG probably the most recent complete fighter, had it all, an amazing chin and scary punch power in his peak.

enzo got hit by legit huge punchers. Straffon aint a big puncher, hes a decent puncher, tenny just has to get matched with guys with essentially no knockouts on their record to be effective

Tennyson was 1/10 on Exchange and 1/12 with bookies.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑03 May 2021, 20:13 didnt see much myself, most people knew his limitations

He’s got away swinging like windmill and having shoot out at lower levels - Nelson had him beating Gervonta Davis
Re: James Tennyson vs. Jovanni Straffon - 1 May 2021
same thing every fight straight in to bulldoze his way threw dont think he carrys a game plan at all.. Think he should get a new coaching set up.
Re: James Tennyson vs. Jovanni Straffon - 1 May 2021
Finally got around to watching this fight.....well, as one round bouts go, that was bloody entertaining
Both teeing off with vicious punches, but unfortunately for Tennyson he cracked first.
James can come back, the punch power looked as destructive as always.
Another tough, hard hitting Mexican spoils the party. You have to admire them

Makes you think not many more will be bought over to upset the applecart , which like you say is a real shame because they always come out with intent .Bet they don't get payed much either .THEBUTCH wrote: ↑15 May 2021, 14:42 Finally got around to watching this fight.....well, as one round bouts go, that was bloody entertaining![]()

I watched most of the undercard fights on the DAZN shows of the last 6 months and anytime there’s a Mexican fighting a prospect they give it a really good go. Even the ones with poor records. Those fighters that can deal with it will really benefit from fighting guys coming to win early in their careers. Far too often in the U.K. guys are matched early with people with no ambition and then struggle when stepped up. Willy Hutchinson’s the most recent example I can think of.rd350lc wrote: ↑16 May 2021, 14:41Makes you think not many more will be bought over to upset the applecart , which like you say is a real shame because they always come out with intent .Bet they don't get payed much either .THEBUTCH wrote: ↑15 May 2021, 14:42 Finally got around to watching this fight.....well, as one round bouts go, that was bloody entertaining![]()

Matchroom will be announcing a promotional deal with Canelo this coming for Mexican shows. Sounds like a good idea as there must be some real hidden gems there.

Mexican and Filipino fighters always seem to travel with a huge chip on their shoulders and come to fight, shame they aren't here more often and instead we get Latvian bin men, padded Frenchman, and ancient Romanian visitors.
We need visitors here to win, not here to be over paid international fighters putting on journeymen like performances of spoiling and inactivity (Jur and De Carolis on Saturday for example)

Mexican imports have been coming over to the UK for decades. It's nothing new and they come in all shapes & sizes, so to speak.
There's those like Lara and Straffon who reek full scale havoc, the ones who give it a good go but fall short and them that fall over at the first sign of trouble.
I just really admire those dangerous Mexicans, and there are a lot of them, that are super tough, fearless and bang
