Hitler wanted to build a 250,000 stadium in Nuremberg for the 1940 Olympics as he presumed they'd have won the war by then and they would stage them every four years. The architects told him it was impossible but he wouldn't have it, the footings are still there. I was told this by the guide on a tour of Berlin's Olympic stadium.
