Official Press Release

Two heavyweight kings are set for a third world title showdown as undefeated WBC world champion Tyson “The Gypsy King” Fury puts his title on the line against former longtime heavyweight champion Deontay “The Bronze Bomber” Wilder Saturday, July 24 from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Tickets go on sale TODAY, June 15 at 12 p.m. PT and can be purchased at www.t-mobilearena.com or www.axs.com. The event is promoted by Top Rank, BombZquad Promotions, TGB Promotions and Frank W’s Queensberry Promotions. A Premier Boxing Champions presentation.

“I’m excited to once again be fighting in Las Vegas, the home of The Gypsy King,” Fury said. “For the last 18 months, I’ve been living rent free in Wilder’s head. He got smashed to pieces in our last fight, and for some reason, he wants it again. Let’s go. The Big Dosser is getting knocked spark out.”

Wilder said, “Nothing has changed. It’s still one face, one name, one champion – Deontay Wilder. I’m in the best shape of my life. July 24, I’m going to show the people why I’m still the baddest man on the planet.”

Hall-Of-Fame Promoter Frank W said: “I’m delighted to see Tyson Fury have an opportunity to defend his prestigious WBC Heavyweight Championship of the world. Since making his comeback with Queensberry in 2018, Tyson has showed the remarkable character he has and cemented himself as the best heavyweight of his generation.

“Make no mistake though, this is no easy fight. Deontay Wilder is an incredibly dangerous puncher and clearly has tremendous self-belief for invoking this rematch.

“I’m sure this will be another absolute classic and I remain confident Tyson will prevail again and we can hopefully look forward to an Undisputed fight in the future.”

Fury (30-0-1, 21 KOs), from Manchester, England, has held the lineal heavyweight crown since dethroning Wladimir Klitschko in November 2015. His comeback from substance abuse and mental health issues inspired millions, and it was the two fights against Wilder that propelled him back to the top of the heavyweight heap. Their December 2018 draw — with Fury rising off the deck in the climactic 12th round — elevated both men to the forefront of the boxing world. Fury knocked out Wilder in the seventh round of their one-sided February 2020 rematch; however, Wilder wanted an immediate third crack at his 6’9, 270-pound adversary.

Wilder (42-1, 41 KOs), a 2008 U.S. Olympic bronze medalist from Tuscaloosa, Alabama, won the heavyweight title in January 2015 and re-energized the heavyweight division, captivating fans with his electrifying power and charisma. Wilder held the WBC heavyweight world title for more than five years, notching 10 consecutive successful defenses, more than all-time greats Mike Tyson, Joe Frazier and Lennox Lewis, while earning a reputation as one of the most devastating punchers in boxing history. Nine of his 10 title defenses ended via knockout, including a pair of come-from-behind victories over Cuban star Luis Ortiz and a one-punch, first-round demolition over 2012 U.S. Olympian Dominic Breazeale. Wilder’s knockout ratio of more than 93 percent still stands as the highest for any heavyweight champion, past or present.

Fury-Wilder III Looks Set for July 24

Deontay Wilder beat Tyson Fury once in the courtroom, now let’s see if the former WBC heavyweight titlist can do it once in the ring.

It appears, according to various reports, that Wilder (42-1-1, 41 knockouts) will get his chance at a third time against Fury, The Ring heavyweight world champion and WBC titlist.

The news was first reported by ESPN’s Ben Baby on ESPN.com.

After an arbitration ruling earlier this week in his favor, Wilder was able to halt the negotiations between Fury (30-0-1, 21 KOs) and IBF/WBA/WBO titlist Anthony Joshua, opening up the possibility of Fury-Wilder III. Neither Wilder nor Fury have fought since Fury demolished Wilder by seventh-round TKO on February 22, 2020, in Las Vegas.

According to ESPN, “Fury and Deontay Wilder have verbally agreed to terms on a third fight, multiple sources confirmed to ESPN. The fight is tentatively scheduled for July 24, with a site in Las Vegas to be determined, according to a source familiar with the negotiations. An alternate date targeted for the fight is Aug. 14, ESPN’s Mark Kriegel reported earlier Thursday.

Top Rank’s Bob Arum told ESPN he expects the contracts to be signed in the coming days. Purses are split 60-40 in Fury’s favor for this trilogy fight, according to Kriegel."

ESPN’s Baby reported that, “after the arbitrator’s ruling, Arum indicated that the plan was to fight Wilder instead of paying him a step-aside fee to maintain the idea of a future bout against Joshua for the undisputed heavyweight title.”

On Tuesday, a charged-up Fury tweeted at Joshua, “I’ll smoke Wilder first then you will get yours.”

Oleksandr Usyk (18-0, 13 KOs) is the mandatory WBO challenger to Joshua (24-1, 22 KOs). Matchroom President Eddie Hearn recently said that if Fury was not available, Usyk could be a possible opponent to challenge Joshua. The Ring reported exclusively on Tuesday Usyk’s demands to fight Joshua as the WBO mandatory.

Arum on Fury-Wilder 3: We're Finishing Paperwork For July 24; Hopefully Done Today

Just three days after an arbitrator ordered Tyson Fury to fight Deontay Wilder next, a deal has nearly been finalized for the heavyweight rivals to fight a third time July 24.

Promoter Bob Arum informed BS.com on Thursday that an agreement has been relatively easy to put together because the terms for their third heavyweight title fight were specified in the contracts for their rematch in February 2020.

“We’re finishing the paperwork,” Arum said after a press conference to promote the Jose Ramirez-Josh Taylor fight scheduled for Saturday night. “July 24th is the working date. Hopefully, we can get it done today. All of the terms are spelled out in that old rematch clause that we had in the original [two-fight] deal. There was very little work to do, almost nothing. It was a two-page document.”

Arum added that T-Mobile Arena and MGM Grand Garden Arena, which was the site of their rematch, are potential venues, along with the Las Vegas Raiders’ Allegiant Stadium. Regardless, Arum, whose company co-promotes Fury, said Fury-Wilder III will take place in Las Vegas.

Their rematch, which Fury won by seventh-round technical knockout, established a Nevada record for ticket revenue for a heavyweight fight, just over $16.9 million. By the time they fight a third time, Arum anticipates that the United States’ COVID-19 travel ban on visitors from the United Kingdom will be lifted, which would allow Fury’s fans from the UK to fly to Las Vegas for their third fight.

As quickly as the deal for a third Fury-Wilder pay-per-view fight has come together, Arum still can’t comprehend how judge Daniel Weinstein ruled Monday that Fury must honor his contractual clause to fight Wilder next. Fury (30-0-1, 21 KOs), the WBC champion, thought he was headed toward a more lucrative showdown with British rival Anthony Joshua (24-1, 22 KOs), the IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO champion, on August 14 in Saudi Arabia.

“It was a real gut punch,” said Arum, a Harvard-educated attorney. “But luckily, I’m a little sophisticated, so I know if you have a case where you’re a hundred-percent sure of winning and you don’t get the win, it can happen. I mean, the decision I think is incomprehensible. But again, we lost. And therefore, we’ve gotta make do.”

Arum figures Fury will stop Wilder (42-1-1, 41 KOs) again in their third bout, but he acknowledged that the hard-hitting Wilder remains dangerous.

“Will it be any different from the last fight?,” Arum said. “Who knows? Maybe it will, maybe it won’t. What am I gonna say? Based on the last fight, it should be a relatively easy fight for Fury. But you know in boxing, particularly with the heavyweights, this next fight could turn out different.”

The 6-feet-9, 273-pound Fury overwhelmed Wilder with his physicality and pressure in their rematch.

He dropped the 6-feet-7, 231-pound Wilder once in the third round and again in the fifth. Their surprisingly one-sided encounter ended in the seventh round, when Wilder’s former assistant trainer, Mark Breland, threw in the towel because he felt Wilder was taking too much punishment.

Wilder fired Breland because he threw in the towel. The former champion has since added Malik Scott, an opponent Wilder once knocked out in the first round, to a training team headed by Jay Deas.

Yep - I agree.

I know Wilder has piss poor boxing skills - although Tyson is not half as good as he and his fan-bois think.
A better prepared Wilder has definitely got a better than expected chance against an over confident Fury.

Does anyone smell a rat here?

How blooming long to Arum / Warren etc - just seemed to be sitting there in their office waiting for paperwork from hearn.... dragging their heels and seemingly not doing anything about it themselves, awaiting gurentees etc (I bloody hope Eddie didn't pay a penny). Any now they can get the Wilder fight agreed in less than a week.

I understand they need to be professional, but they don't seem pissed off AJ vs Fury is not happening

His power is overrated, he's been babied up the ranks, he has never knocked an iron chinned fighter out for ten, nor some brittle chinners. Just dont

It seems that way but to the detriment of the sport - how many fans have become completely disillusioned by the mess. This is not even Floyd vs Pac - there were always very very decent options for them 2 and Floyd especially did not express even a false desire to have a fight. It almost seemed like when they both said - okay lets do it, they got it sorted pretty quickly (despite the promoter / tv etc) - this fight though all parties seem to want to the fight (or so we thought) yet the contract negotiations have been horrendously slow.

If Wilder wins, this will surely mean no.4 is on the cards and totally screws AJ. Mildly amusing.

Don't you want the #1 and #2 heavyweights to fight each other? Why is it amusing if they don't?
If wilder wins it won't be 1 & 2 anymore with AJ/Fury would it?

in that case then the fight should be wilder vs josh, not a continuation of the wilder-fury non stop orgy. how many f@cking times would they need to fight each other when there's another huge fight out there. if fury then won the 4th would it go to a 5th......and then a 6th if wilder won that

It’s hard to muster any enthusiasm for this fight although I am curious to see if Deontay has the gall to use his bomb squad catchphrase in the build up. Surely not.

You'd think that history would repeat, now that fury has wilder figured out, pushing him onto the back foot.
With wilder's power, you always have your heart in your mouth, waiting for that big one off ko punch to land.
You have to favour fury heavily, he's only lost a couple of rounds to wilder in 2 fights. Still worth a watch, #1 v #3, heavyweight boxing, anything can happen.
