Then on March 18th, at Old Jai Alai Palace Forum - Entertainment Center (Av. Revolución, Zona Centro, 22000 Tijuana, B.C., Mexico) at 12 PM PT

Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. is considered the greatest fighter from boxing-crazed Mexico, and one of the greatest pound for pound fighters of all-time.

During his amazing 25 year-run, he compiled an incredible record of 107-6-2 with with a staggering 85 knockouts. He was a six-time world champion in three weight-divisions, and was inducted into the International Hall of Fame in 2011.

"It is an honor to render a tribute to Hector Camacho , but I know his son wants to get at me and get revenge from the fight I had with his father," said Chavez Sr.

Camacho Jr. will look even the score as his Hall of Fame father and Chavez Sr. engaged in a showdown in 1992, that saw Chavez win a unanimous decision. Camacho Jr. has a professional record of 59-7-1 with 33 knockouts.

"Instead of six rounds with papa bear, I'll fight two rounds with Omar, two more with junior, and then finish with the good ass whooping of the old man," said Camacho Jr.

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. is the former WBC Middleweight world champion, who made three defenses of the crown, has a record of 52-5-1 with 34 knockouts.

"It has been a tough couple of years for me, but I want to show the fans that I am not done, and I have more to give the sport as I move to light heavyweight and make a run at another title," said Chavez Jr.

Omar Chavez is 38-6-1 with 25 knockouts will take on Alvarez, who is 28-8-3 with 16 knockouts.

"I beat him easily in the second fight, and I'll beat him the same way in this fight. We both wanted this fight, and I just want to knock him out again," said Omar Chavez.

On September 27, 2014, Alvarez won a hotly contested unanimous decision; Chavez evened up the rivalry with a 2nd round stoppage on April 29, 2017.

"Since losing the second fight, I know I was not fully prepared, and took the fight on short notice but I have no excuses. Now I want to retaliate for that defeat by giving it everything I have to win. This will be an emotional fight in my home town," Said Alvarez.

junior made a 'decent living' on his own don't you think?

would he have reached the heights he did if he wasn't the son of a legend?

how could one really live up to the expectations of the public in a boxing crazy nation like Mexico being the junior of an absolute icon?

does it matter?

he did quite good for himself i think.

Chavez-Camacho Jr kickoff press conference

Boxing legend Julio Cesar Chavez and Hector Camacho Jr. came face to face Tuesday to announce their PPV exhibition fight that will take place on Saturday, June 19th at The Jalisco Stadium in Guadalajara, Mexico

Julio Cesar Chavez: "First I said no, because he is too young for me. But when they told me it was a tribute to my great friend (Camacho Sr.), who is in heaven, I accepted immediately. Between Mexico and Puerto Rico there has always been a great rivalry, but “Macho” Camacho never bothered my family, he never offended me or used rude words. And we became great friends, I love him to heaven, he knows it. Although now he must be angry about the beating I’m going to give his son.”

Hector Camacho Jr: “I have been waiting for the opportunity for this fight for years. I will be well prepared, very skinny as you like. This fight is going to be days before the anniversary of my father’s death, so it will be a very emotional fight for me.”

The numbers relating to this exhibition are quite staggering!

Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. had only just turned 30 years of age when he defeated Hector Camacho Sr.

The Puerto Rican’s son was only 13 years of age at the time of this fight, which happened almost 29 years ago.

And based on the date of the exhibition, Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. will be entering the ring on the cusp of turning 59 years of age, facing an opponent that’ll be 16½ years younger than himself.

According to BoxRec, only two years would have transpired since the date of Hector Camacho Jr's most recent outing.

And Chavez Sr’s last “official” bout happened almost 16 years ago.

Chavez Sr. and Camacho Jr. have engaged in a combined total of 182 fights, resulting in only 13 defeats.

Press Release

Two more bouts have been added to the "Tribute To The Kings" Pay-Per-View card that will take place on Saturday, June 19th from the Jalisco Stadium in Guadalajara, Mexico.

In a 10-round battle for the NABO Super Welterweight Title, Damian "Samurai" Sosa battles Abel "Authentico" Mina. In the televised opener, Kevin "Diamond Boy" Torres will fight Jorge Luis "Silencioso" Melendez in a eight-round junior welterweight fight.

Those two fights will support the special night of boxing that will feature legendary Julio Cesar Chavez making his last ring appearance when he battles Hector Camacho Jr in an exhibition bout; Former middleweight world champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. takes on MMA Legend Anderson Silva in a cruiserweight bout scheduled for 10-rounds; Omar Chavez will take on Ramon Alvarez in their trilogy bout, which will be a 10-round middleweight bout.

Sosa of Tijuana, Mexico has a record of 17-1 with 10 knockouts. The 24 year-old is a five-year veteran, who has racked up wins over Alan Carillo (6-0), Giovanny Gonzalez (6-1), Angel Beltran Villa (9-0). In his last bout, Sosa stopped Isidro Toalo in two rounds on February 27th in Jalisco, Mexico. Sosa has won six straight bouts

"It’s a great honor and motivation to be fighting on the same card with the Chavez Family," said Sosa. "And even more so that I will be fighting for a WBO Latin America Championship. My opponent Abel Mina is undefeated, had a great amateur career, but that doesn’t worry me at all. I am preparing myself for a war. The ring is my comfort zone and that’s where I will do all of my talking."

Mina of Puerto Quito, Ecuador, is undefeated with a record of 13-0 with seven knockouts. The 28 year-old is a three year veteran who has a win over Diego Quinones (4-1). Mina is coming off a 2nd round stoppage over Luis Hernan Rodriguez on February 13th in Planeta Rica, Ecuador.

Said Mina,"This is the biggest opportunity of my career, and it makes me very proud to fight in Mexico, and represent my country of Ecuador in such an important event. Damian is the strongest and toughest opponent that I have ever faced, like most Mexican fighters are but with God's grace I will be victorious on June 19th"

Torres, 24 years-old of Bellingham, Washington has a resume that reads 17-1-1 with 14 knockouts. A five-year veteran is coming off an eight-round unanimous decision over Jose Cuevas on September 19th in Tijuana, Mexico.

"It is an honor to be part of Tribute to the Kings, from this point on these are the kind of events I want to be a part of,” said Torres

Melendez, 27 years-old of Zapopan, Mexico has a record of 13-7-2 with eight knockouts. A veteran of eight years, Melendez has a win over undefeated Jose Magdaleno. Melendez is looking to get back in the win column after dropping a decision to Christian Bielma on February 29, 2020 in Tijuana, Mexico.

The card is promoted by Toscano Promotions and Borizteca Boxing, and will be produced by Global Sports Streaming.

Chavez Jr. vs Anderson Silva is f*cking easy money for anybody wanting to bet on something on this card. Silva has no shot at all there.

As for the Exhibition. I'd rather watch a rerun of the Andy Griffith show.

I’m beginning to get annoyed about hearing of so many exhibitions involving novice boxers/reality TV stars (Tommy Fury), MMA fighters (Conor McGregor, Frank Mir etc.), YouTubers (Logan and Jake Paul, KSI etc.), and retired veterans (Tyson, Jones Jr. Chavez Jr., Mayweather etc.).

I really can’t wait for this fad to reach its expiry date!

Canelo gets out of his seat to corner for Julio Cesar Chavez in final bout

Image

Chavez was competing in a farewell exhibition against Hector Camacho Jr. when Canelo jokingly stood up to enter the ring.

Always a special man, along with an exceptional fighter, Chavez told Canelo to come up and be in his corner in what was a special moment.

The Guadalajara native duly obliged. The two once again embraced after the fight, which seemed to be a symbolic passing of the torch from past to future Mexican darling to current superstar and future legend that Alvarez is on course to be.

Afterward, the pair had nothing but good things to say about each other.

“Thanks to Canelo. Here you have the best Mexican fighter today, possibly the best in history,” stated Chavez about the current star of the sport.

The humble Canelo replied: “Chavez will always be the greatest Mexican fighter ever.”

JULIO CESAR CHAVEZ EXHIBITION

Boxing legend Chavez had thrilled his adoring fans one last time as he and Camacho Jr. entertained a crowd of enthusiastic fight fans in a particular exhibition bout at Jalisco Stadium in Guadalajara, Mexico.

The bout headlined Tribute To The Kings Pay-Per-View. The two fought hard, which was much to the delight of the crowd.

The bout was memorable for all involved as Chavez fought Camacho’s late father, Hector Camacho, 29 years ago.

Marking the end of an era, Chavez announced that this would be the final time he would enter a boxing ring. He would hang up the gloves for good.

Chavez had been participating in exhibitions in recent years.

He leaves the sport with the love of his people and the respect of everyone involved in boxing.

The word “legend” gets thrown around way too easily these days. But not for Julio Cesar Chavez.

Dude, this is not going to stop. These dopes are making the money that Boxing is leaving all over the table by not putting together quality cards. No one wants to see rivalries “simmer” for a million years anymore. Good for them. Screw Boxing for slow playing us.
