Re: Matchroom last show on Sky
It’s going to be an interesting 6 months for British boxing.
Eddie would have thought DAZN would have either had the football super league or some premier league rights by now so being the only U.K. live sport on DAZN is going to be tough when they’ll need big volumes to make it financially viable.
Sky will likely be going back to multiple promoters but who should they get? A lot of people say they want to see more small hall shows but if we take Dennis Hobson’s show on Friday night that would have got ripped to shreds if it was on Sky. The majority of old Sky sports small hall shows were poor where undercards were one sided with an occasionally good main event.
Wasserman may be the way they’re going but unless the WBSS has several British fighters involved, it will get poor ratings. As far as I’m aware they’ve only got Eubank Jr on their books at the moment and they were hardly ambitious in his matchmaking in their first fight together. I could see them signing anyone of note who’s not with or happy with Eddie or Frank. Eddie may regret working with fighters on handshake; fight by fight deals as Wasserman may just pay them more to start their stable properly.
Would I want to see Joe Gallagher promoted show? Probably not. The only promoter would fit in fairly smoothly is MTK but that has other baggage.
Adam Smith will be under pressure to deliver though as it’s not a good look to lose the biggest/most well known U.K. boxing promoter. Sky may go down the quantity over quality route and have 3/4 shows per month across various promoters.
Interesting times ahead.

Hearn did an IFL interview earlier. Still planning to do the Newcastle show in a couple of weeks on Sky. Waiting for Ritson’s opponents contract back.
He went through the undercard - really uninspiring (Martin Ward, Joe Laws and a couple of others) and it felt like he’s saving the better stuff for fight camp in July.

Yeah mainly all locals/cheaper fights - not going to do anything until it’s switched of any note I’d agree with you.maverick23 wrote: ↑24 May 2021, 13:52 Hearn did an IFL interview earlier. 3 weeks of Fight Camp look to be the big start off of DAZN.
Clearly the DAZN budget is considerably bigger to leave Sky - but he really emphasised the media and production as being big part going forward of them producing everything.

It’s going to be tough to get a sport that will be a real dial turner when it comes to subscribers. If you like at what BT show the vast majority of their content is overseas sport like the French football league. The he only people that watch will be gamblers. Obviously they’ve got some premier league games and the European football so DAZN may want to look to buy those packages from BT.Liston Like Jab wrote: ↑24 May 2021, 15:24I know someone at Matchroom, although she is not on the boxing side. She says that there are a lot of possibilities with DAZN. She gave the impression that other sports are on the way and there is the possibility of DAZN acquiring the content from an existing platform(s).maverick23 wrote: ↑24 May 2021, 12:10 It’s going to be an interesting 6 months for British boxing.

I don't see SKY wanting to show small hall shows with a lot of 7-0 vs 3-72 match ups. Sauerland could grab a few out of contract UK fighters and make a go of it. Some fighters, trainers and management teams have a good relationship with SKY and I can see it working without Eddie.
Outside of football, what else can they get that drive big volumes of U.K. subscriptions?

Sky have quite a bit longer on their darts contracts I think whilst the main snooker tournaments are locked in with the BBC.
I also don’t think the UFC will work. I subscribe to BT primarily for the UFC whilst I watch some football and the boxing. If their main 2 sports are boxing/UFC there’s a lot of crossover in the viewers. Not everyone who watches one watches the other but there is a lot of crossover so I don’t think they’d get significantly more subscribers adding the UFC to a boxing schedule. Maybe another 20-30,000 I’d guess.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Sky canned boxing altogether tbh, and just offered their platform to put on the occasional PPV.

Just watched the Hearn interview and although its only one sided you cant help bit feel he's telling the truth and genuinely seething about Arum and Fury, they royally fvcked him and Joshua about along with Joe Public, Fury and Co never seemed really positive about the fight and as Eddie says, Fury seems delighted with the result, he looked overjoyed at weekend signing the Wilder 3 contract and not in the slightest bit arsed about missing out at £70 mil and a crack at the undisputed, as Eddie says if that was Joshua he'd(AJ) been fuming with him for blowing this opportunity when all the time saying the arbitration case was no issue, the big revelation though is that Lawyer Arum had the opportunity in December to void the Wilder fight but chose not to
Hearn and the public been played like a fiddle and thats including Fury fans, not a single effort made by anyone in Fury's camp to try revive the deal and as i say all involved on that side seem well chuffed on how everythings turned out

If you watch that interview and thats your only take from it then it just shows the Fury fanboys/Hearn haters will never be persuaded otherwise that their man is the biggest spoofer in boxing, why didnt Fury go berserk at Arum or Warren for costing him the fight? Instead he was swanning around America happy as a pig in sh1t, they live to avoid Joshua for another daymickey1975 wrote: ↑24 May 2021, 17:59And he has no problem with MTK who never got mentioned. Its beggars belief, i dont mind admitting im not Warren's biggest fan, mostly after the way he casually shafted Burns and carried on like nothing happened but if he puts on a good show, makes a big fight or genuinely talks sense I'll give him props, the thought of just turning every good thing he does into a negative is nauseating to memargaret thatcher wrote: ↑24 May 2021, 19:09same way with a lot of fans, they'd rather hahaha at eddie hearn than get an undisputed hw title fighthandsofstone wrote: ↑24 May 2021, 19:06So annoying an opponents promoter is more important than undisputed and securing legacy??

Well, it was obviously scripted. With all the rumours that Kugan only asks what he's allowed to and doesn't mention Tyson's managers speaks volumes. Why didn't Eddie say "Tyson was thanking Daniel Kinihan six months ago, what happened, Dan?". 258 got mentioned.handsofstone wrote: ↑24 May 2021, 19:11If you watch that interview and thats your only take from it then it just shows the Fury fanboys/Hearn haters will never be persuaded otherwise that their man is the biggest spoofer in boxing, why didnt Fury go berserk at Arum or Warren for costing him the fight? Also, why are all Fury fans known as 'fanboys'? For one, I'm not a boy, two, it's a stupid word, three, I've followed boxing at all levels since before Tyson was born.
Josh Taylor must have a lot of fanboys, and AJ if it just means you like someone who is good.

258 were just mentioned in passing. It’s pretty clear that the discussions have been between Eddie and Top Rank. Even FW has seemed out of the loop at times.mickey1975 wrote: ↑25 May 2021, 02:30Well, it was obviously scripted. Eddie’s not daft. Why would he attack MTK? They’ve got several hundred (I think?!) boxers on their books so why have a pop at MTK and risk causing issues there.
MTK weren’t the ones saying in every interview that the arbitration wasn’t an issue - that was Bob. Bob was also the one who was often fairly negative about things when he should have been doing all he can to make the fight. He works for Tyson and messed up. He kept Tyson inactive when he could have got this fight sorted months ago and has wasted 9 months of his career because he was wrong.
Tyson’s team has just looked incompetent in the last few weeks. Tyson announced the AJ fight one day, the next day he’s fighting Wilder, FW is saying they’re looking at a step aside and Bob has given a date, location and saying they’re not stepping aside.
Re: Matchroom last show on Sky
Buried in Eddies carefully controlled interview is an admission that the fight was always subject to arbitration, that the money wasn’t sorted and that the venue wasn’t decided either.
Both sides have been playing each other but Eddie is putting more effort into the spin.
The ‘Shout out to Prince Khalid’ was a fairly horrible moment.
My take is that there are a number of people who benefit from this fight not happening particularly at such a crucial time for the DAZN launch and Eddie’s contract with Joshua.
Fun to see how it plays out and I have no problem with the two fights that will happen. I hope for a pair of upsets.

Do MTK ever come out making bold statements. I had a feeling Tyson wanted a fight first months ago when he mentioned inactivity killing fighters. He even brought it up after Conor McGregor lost. He's a lot of things, but not stupid.
Re: Matchroom last show on Sky
Correct he,s not stupid , in fact he,s very smart, also the self proclaimed smartest man in boxing has his ear ,,, his father,, i don,t believe for one minuite Tyso has not known EVERY OPTION since last year,, including whatevet get out cluases he may have had , or that he knew about the abitration ,, Arum would of kept him up to speed , he,s alawyer he knows his job , also k ows wben your talking that sort of money he could be sacked and sued dereliction of duty ect..mickey1975 wrote: ↑25 May 2021, 03:12 Do MTK ever come out making bold statements. I think Fury has got Excactly the fight he wanted ,, Aj took 6 months and still not done ,, Wilder took six days and done and dusted Not long ago John Fury said it won,t happen this year ,, they knew,, i think Shelley Winkle and Bob have just put the upstart from the mother land in his place , and Fury has known and gonne along with it , cos he really does,nt fancy the loss to Aj ,, and he won,t risk it for the money thats not i,portant too him , It only seems importNt when there making the Aj fight

Are you forgetting the fact that Fury and Arum both confirmed fight was on? Arum insisted that Arbitration was no issue, maybe the reason why he never chose to void fight in December, as for MTK and Warren, who knows what their involvement was, if they were in loop then they just as culpable, all Team Fury had to do was, say they couldn't fight Joshua as they were tied to 3rd Wilder fight, Hearn or Joshua couldnt say anything aganst that, especially Eddie who loves a rematch clausemickey1975 wrote: ↑25 May 2021, 03:12 Do MTK ever come out making bold statements. My main point though is, do Fury or Arum seem upset that that the biggest fight in boxing has passed them by due to their own doings, whether deliberate or incompetent?? Do they fcvk and going by social media, neither does the boxing public which i find staggering
In hindsight its clear Fury wanted no part in Joshua, look how giddy he was on the ESPN broadcast at weekend, hardly the behaviour of some guy chasing greatness, its ok his delusional fanbase will lap it up and spin the narrative

I’m a bit worried Tyson has too many distractions now. The supposed date of the wilder fight is only 8 weeks away yet he’s been flying around all over the place and seemingly having fun. Paris was straight out to join him when those pictures of him getting oiled up by some random women came out.mickey1975 wrote: ↑25 May 2021, 04:11 I also doubted it when he took his son with him to Vegas and then flew his wife out. He’s a far more natural boxer than Wilder but I just hope he isn’t totally overlooking him as Wilder may well have been training hard for a while now.

I don't think It will take place on that date.
