Duran in Montreal: Why He was so Special?

Everytime we compare or match this great fighter, Mr. Roberto Duran, The Hands of Stone, we always refer him as the Duran in Montreal in a welterweight matchup. But, Duran had so many amazing performances to wit.

Has there ever been a performance as great as the Duran in Montreal?

Where do you rank him at lightweight all-time?
Where do you rank him at welterweight all-time?
Where do you rank him all-time pound per pound?

This is a living legend. I try to enjoy him in every interview that I can get hold of him.

In my lifetime, to me, he is the best fighter that I have ever seen. And I have seen many in my lifetime. Not because he is my favorite boxer I rank him as the best. But, when I look his overall career it puts me in a sense of amazement. I have never seen nothing close like him.

I'd rate Duran as the best p4p fighter of the last 50 years, no doubt. A great talent developed by master trainers-Arcel and Brown. I'm convinced that the Duran of Montreal defeats the Leonard of New Orleans.

At 135, I don't rank him # 1 all-time but I won't argue with anyone who does. At welterweight, I'd put him in the top 10 of the guys I saw fight-of course, I never saw Burley, Holman Williams, Jack Britton, Cocoa Kid among others.

I still think him beating the MW monster Barkley when he was 37 is one of the ATG great wins. A career lightweight moving up to MW to take on a defeat a a huge, natural MW in his prime. That is ridiculous...would be like Crawford aged 37 going up to take on prime GGG.

Can't think of many career LW's that go up to 160 to win a strap, let alone do it aged 37 against a guy the size of the Blade.

When I saw him beating Iran Barkley for the WBC World middleweight crown in a INSANE slugfest right there I had to ranked him top 5 pound per pound of All-Time. In what position? From 3 to 5 is good. I don't see a greater resume of accomplishments inside the ring. I can't believe that he never won The Ring Fighter of the Year Award even in his prime. Amazing! Pure amazing!
