And Yarde.

Warren's good relationship with the WBO has manoeuvred Yarde, Williams and Catterall into a mandatory position but none of them have faced anyone decent to get to there which doesn't help them come the title shot.
Unfair on yarde to compare him to Williams and catterall, if yarde actually had a real trainer he could of had the potential to compete and win at world level in a good division
We will see. James Cook is on board now.
Williams had two very close fights with Liam Smith, who is very good. Andrade is just a lot better than given credit for. And Williams pushed him.

Josh Taylor’s last six opponents had a total combined pre-fight record of 136 wins and only one defeat. And the Catterall bout will be the Scots' sixth consecutive unbeaten fighter he’s faced. That’s a phenomenal run! :TU:

I haven't seen a lot of Jack Catterall, but I have a hunch that Josh Taylor forces a mid-rounds (5 to 7) stoppage.

That's amazing. I'm surprised I've not seen that statistic before.

Liam Smith is a Euro level fighter, the second fight wasn't even close Williams was very poor, if andrade didn't revert to type and coast after the opening round and try to look like Floyd for the rest of the fight he would of ktfo Williams within 3

Taylor eyes summer fight with Catterall in Edinburgh

The undisputed world champion says he is due a fight in front of home fans.

Josh Taylor believes his first fight as undisputed world light-welterweight champion will be in Edinburgh against Jack Catterall this summer.

The Prestonpans boxer is back home after defeating Jose Ramirez in Las Vegas to become the first British fighter to become unified world champion in the four belt era. Taylor already held the WBA and IBF strap but added Ramirez’s WBC and WBO junior-welterweight titles to his collection.

That achievement has opened up a wealth of possibilities for the 30-year-old, with Terence Crawford and Teofimo Lopez mentioned as possible opponents. Taylor admitted his new status put “a big target” on his back but thinks he will face Catterall first.

The English fighter is the mandatory WBO challenger and if Taylor wants to hold on to his undisputed status, he has to take the fight or lose the belt.

“I think the next one is going to have to be my mandatory defence, which is against Jack Catterall, so it might be that,” he told STV.

“But if something bigger comes along and everything is right we’ll take that too. I’ll sit down with my management team and Ben and the people around me and see what the best one is.

“I think right now the Jack Catterall fight would be good. It would be the traditional Scotland v England bout and that could be at Edinburgh Castle.

“I know Jack pretty well and I don’t think he would have an issue with coming up here. I think he would relish the opportunity.

“That would be a good fight to happen.

“Later this year [is possible]. I think they are starting to let fans back at football so hopefully later on when it’s back to full capacity.

“The later end of the summer, because if it’s going to be outside then we’re banking on the weather.”

Scottish FA chief executive Ian Maxwell has made a public offer for Taylor to have his next fight at Hampden Park and while the fighter sees the attraction of taking to the ring at the home of Scottish football, he says his real desire os to put on a show in his home town.

“Hampden would be amazing,” he admitted. “It would be something like 75,000, which would be epic, would be huge.

“Would I be able to fill it? I don’t know.

“That would be something else, it would be amazing but I really do have a desire to fight back here at home, to have that fight at Edinburgh Castle or Easter Road.

“I know for a fact that Easter Road would be keen to do it so that’s a massive positive. I would love to have the Castle do it as well, to have the two of them biting my hands off to be the one hosting it.

“We’ll see what comes but I would really love to have a fight at home. I haven’t boxed at home since about 2016 or 2017. It’s a long time.

“I would love to do that and I think I’m due it, to box at home in front of friends and family for once.”

It's almost a mismatch with Catterall going in against Taylor.

Yeah Smith is a good fighter, but Williams middleweight opposition of Andrew Robinson, Joe Mullender etc in the run up to it didn't do him any favours.
Williams looks good against taxi drivers and that's about it

It's a big mismatch , catterall no better than modern era domestic title level , 15-20 years ago he wouldn't of even been rated domestic title level as it was much higher standard back then

i was wondering what sort of purse Jack will be rewarded with for his patience. Presumably 6 digits, as a percentage of what superstar Taylor may be paid for a homecoming. Not that he's the top contender for the undisputed world championship on merit but he has been ticking over for absolutely ages, and presumably earned modestly at best from the past 2-3 years. Knowing Fwank's track record of steering his guys into vacant / interim world titles, I am surprised Jack is going to get this opportunity, I figured after unification the belts would get vacated and Jack would contest one of them. Good luck to him but wow what a tall order.

Catterall most likely makes more money fighting Taylor, than for the vacant belt.

For sure, but if he boxes for a vacant WBO title W@rren will line up a string of sub-world class challengers which will gross him a fair amount of money without getting a hiding from Taylor :maybe:

Hope the fight does happen primarily so Taylor remains undisputed champion for as long as possible.

im not sure catteral is good enough to milk the wbo title .....even the weaker guys in the ratings seem like tough matches for him. i dont believe he's world class

i guess too, even if he loses to taylor, he could still retain a high wbo ranking, and challenge for a vacant belt if taylor later dumps the belt and moves up

G.A. Russell and Matias would shred Catterall into carnitas.

ya would take both them over him, there are many other guys in the wbo rankings who could beat him. very few 'easy' options for him.......tbh the wbo's 140 rankings are actually pretty decent as far as abc rankings go

I don't know, W@rren has flown in some stinkers for some of past WBO champions to feast on at the expense of the fans. He gets some very lenient treatment from the organisation.

He likes his WBO Champions to grow into the title.

This is definitely not true. Catterall would be in the mix for the British title in any era.

i just wouldnt trust cat to string together several defenses, imo even weaker challengers would be risky, and at least right now the wbo top 15 contenders isn too bad

a taylor fight is presumably much more lucrative than cat fighting rando nobodies, so that' a positive. and for cat to win a vacant title, taylor has to vacate, which he can still do even if he fights cat first. warren is good with the wbo, so dont rule out that catt can get a fight vs taylor AND a vacant title fight

cat for me is a tad better than ohara davies and seems stuck in 1 gear. i think he'll throw little and lose a very wide boring decision. my guess is that taylor gets frustrated with the lack of counter opportunities presented

I just caught up with the Matias fight on the Donaire card. Geeze what a handful he is
The commentator said it was an eliminator for one of Joshs' belts.
Was that correct?
