I didn’t mind Dacres’ opponent on Saturday - it showed what he needed to work on and there’s a fair bit he needs to improve. He wasn’t good but he was tough, gave rounds and kept Dacres honest. Adelaye’s opponents before his last fight were so poor that he didn’t find out his limitations until it was almost too late.

Tommy Fury’s last 4 opponents have a combined record of 2-72-2 and his last 2 opponents didn’t have a win between them and, no surprise, he blasted them out. What does he learn from that? It’s one of my issues with pro boxing on TV - they say it’s so the boxers can learn/develop but I would argue they usually do neither.

The Paul fight won’t happen. I saw an interview with FW a few weeks back and he was talking about a 50:50 split. Tommy Fury will be earning 10s of thousands per fight at the moment whilst Paul’s probably earning 10s of millions.

For what it’s worth I actually think Tommy’s got a fair bit of potential. I just don’t want to listen to John Fury big up another opponent with no ambition and minimal talent.

I think he might get to British title level and then who knows. He’s only 22 so has time to improve and develop.

Heavyweight Bogdan Dinu is training hard in his hometown of Buzau, Romania, getting some excellent sparring work from former foe Jarrell “Big Baby” Miller as he prepares to face Daniel “Dynamite” Dubois for the WBA interim title. The 6′ 5″ Dinu (20-2, 16 KOs) will face the 6′ 5″ Dubois (15-1, 14 KOs) of London on Saturday, June 5th. An upset victory over Dubois will put Dinu one step away from realizing his dream of becoming the first Romanian heavyweight champion of the world. [The WBA ranks Anthony Joshua as their super champion, Trevor Bryan as their regular champion and Manuel Charr as their champion in recess].

Joining the 34 year-old Dinu in camp are his brother George, co-trainer Ross Woolgrove and strength and conditioning coach Daniel Ortega. And this week, to provide world-class sparring, is Jarrell “Big Baby” Miller [the former contender whose career has been deraied by PED issues]. Miller stopped Dinu in four rounds in 2018 but the pair have remained friends. “I am training in my home city in my own gym,” explained Dinu between workouts. “I have everything I need here and it’s going really good with Jarrell. He’s one of the most dangerous heavyweights in the world. He puts on a lot of pressure and that’s good for me to prepare for this fight. It’s an important fight and I must win!”

Dinu says he’s working on a surprise for the 23 year-old Dubois, who was considered a red-hot prospect before coming up short against fellow Brit Joe Joyce last November for the European and British championships. In the press, pre-fight, Dubois has been promising to knock Dinu out and return to the fast track.

“I see a young heavyweight who likes to fight, but has only faced easier opponents,” Dinu observed about Dubois. “His only tough fight was against Joe Joyce and we saw what happened. You’ll see by the result of our fight that his big reputation is exaggerated. He’s promising to knock me out? He’s just saying words because he hasn’t met me yet. He will have a big surprise when he looks in my eyes, just as tall as he is and not afraid of him at all. I am going to be very well-prepared and I have a lot of surprises for this kid.”

Dinu last fought in October 2020 with a second-round stoppage of German veteran Frank Bluemle in October 2020. His promoter, Greg Cohen, founder and CEO of Greg Cohen Promotions, says his fighter will be a different man when he shows up for battle on June 5th. “Bogdan Dinu has only lost to two of the top contenders in the division in Miller and Kubrat Pulev and he really should have won the Pulev fight,” said Cohen. “Bogdan is a very smart, experienced, tough guy with a great amateur pedigree and I don’t think Daniel Dubois is ready for someone with his world-class skills and experience. Dinu is working every day in camp with Jarrell, who is pushing him to his limits and taking him to new levels as a fighter. After June 5, Bogdan Dinu will be the interim WBA heavyweight champion in line to face one of the top dogs.”

Press Release | Dubois: I Feel Like I'm Starting Pro Career Again, A Fresh Start is Great

THE HEAVYWEIGHT COLOSSUS Daniel Dubois has revealed that he feels like he is starting his professional career all over again as he closes in on his date with Bogdan Dinu with the WBA Interim title at stake on June 5.

Dubois, of course, suffered the unfamiliar sensation of defeat at the back end of November when he entered into a heavy duty domestic duel with Joe Joyce with multiple titles on the line, including the British and European.

The 23-year-old, who had previously picked up nine championship belts in 15 fights, was considered by many to be the irresistible force of the heavyweight division, with the 2016 Olympic silver medallist believed to be a notable obstacle along his reign of terror that saw 14 of his opponents vanquished via stoppage.

The 35-year-old Joyce, a far more seasoned campaigner in the sport, had other ideas and brought his know-how to the fore in repelling the Dubois onslaughts, while picking him off with speedy and telling jabs to the eye of his younger opposition.

It was those measured and powerful prods from the left hand of Joyce that caused a grisly injury to Dubois' left eye that ultimately resulted in him taking himself out of the line of fire in the 10th round of a close contest in which he was actually up on the cards.

So, instead of sitting back admiring his lofty ranking with the WBO and jostling for a seat at the top table, Dubois was left to lick his wounds and await medical reports over the severity of his injury. He was also left to ponder what went wrong and reconcile himself to the fact he would be embarking on a rebuild.

Dubois admits reconciliation was not instant.

"You know it took a few weeks actually, I must be honest," he conceded. "Just to reflect, look back and slow everything down again, to pick up the pieces and start putting them back into place. I made decisions about the team, how we are going to move forward and what the next step is."

A step the bright young heavy insists did not include sulking, even though the taste of defeat was far from familiar.

"I was doing a lot of things, picking up different sports like playing tennis and we've got a pool table at home, so I was doing a bit of that.

"I needed to shake the feeling off that a loss brings. It is a down feeling and I needed to overcome it to come forward and see the light.

"The last time I lost was an amateur, it was a good few years ago, when I was 16, probably. When you are a pro and the whole world is getting to see your vulnerabilities, it is interesting, you know. It is a proper sport this boxing.

"You have to ride with it and now I am back again and ready to come back stronger. I've looked at it, examined it, now I am ready to push on again, iron out my mistakes and put it right."

During his period of contemplation Dubois reveals he harbored no doubts over his future participation in the sport, pointing out that his taking a knee maintained his own grip on his future plans rather than relying on medical opinion to continue.

"No, I was honestly too busy feeling bad to think about that. Once I collected myself and pulled myself together, not once did I have doubts over whether I would be coming back.

"Maybe it turned out right that I made the decision I did.

"There was a break from everything, but I am used to being in the gym. Usually after fights it is 'who is next?' but that slowed down a bit and now is the time to start again in life. I feel like I am starting my pro career again, as if I am an amateur just turning professional.

"That for me is great - a fresh start. There is no better feeling than the beginning."

ARCHIE SHARP GOES GLOBAL

ARCHIE SHARP WILL challenge for the vacant WBO Global super featherweight championship when he returns to the ring on Saturday June 5, live on BT Sport.

The 19-0 ‘Sharpshooter’ takes on Marcio Soza, 21-6-2 in his first fight since August of last year following his recovery from an arm injury.

The former WBO European champion, ranked at No.4 in the world by the governing body, will be entering into his first fight since switching his training base to Alan Smith’s Queensberry iBox Gym in Bromley and he is up against a Nicaraguan on an 11-fight winning streak and the holder of the WBA Fedelatin title, which he won in December of 2020.

“We are under two weeks out now and I literally cannot wait – I am very excited,” said the 26-year-old Sharp on his bid to win a second professional belt. “I’ve had a good 10-12 weeks camp after my injury and it has gone well

“I am fighting for the WBO Global title and it is what I needed really. I talk about trusting the process and I was going to be out on the Carl Frampton show before that got moved, I got injured and then this belt became vacant and I am now fighting a tough kid for a bigger title.

“It will put me in very good stead for where I want to be. Shakur Stevenson is fighting the No.2 (Jeremiah Nakathila) and I will be right there amongst it. I have defended the European belt three or four times now and I did get a little bit complacent in a couple of the fights. Having a new belt on the line is what I thrive on and I am buzzing for it.

“Marcio Soza is a tough kid and hasn’t been beaten since 2016. He has mixed with the likes of Francisco Fonseca and has been at a very good level, with over 20 wins and 12 stoppages. His losses came very early in his career and he is a 30-year-old man, so it is gonna be good and I am looking forward to it.

“He is definitely a Mexican-style fighter and I have watched a couple of little clips. He will certainly want to go toe-to-toe.”

There are a few reports that Tommy Fury was down to face 0-14 Andy Bishop. Jake Paul came out taking the piss and now FW has denied it was ever being considered.

I’d expect them to find a random East European with a decent on paper, super padded record to fight now.

Whilst Van Poetch would give Tommy a better fight unfortunately given Tommy is pushing for the Paul fight, Van Poetch’s record will give Paul too much ammunition. Particularly given Fury’s last few opponents. They’ll find a random 7-1/5-0 guy from Bulgaria to get sparked out.

Dinu is pony from what I've seen, started well enough against Miller but got hurt and went into a shell and couldn't get out there quick enough, stopped by Pulev as well, 2 high end opponents and stopped twice , Dubois should stop him as well
