Press Release

Dennis Hobson, under the Fight Academy banner, has announced a second live show of 2021.

With the first show taking place at Sheffield Arena Car Park on Friday 21, the next will be hot on the heels at the same venue and just a week later – on Friday May 28. A limited number of fans will be able to attend both events, with TV coverage details to follow shortly.

On the May 28 card, Rotherham heavyweight hopeful, Kash Ali, will bid to become the new International Boxing Federation (IBF) European king when he faces big-punching Czech fighter Tomas Salek in a tough fight for the vacant crown.

Ali’s only defeat in 19 outings is a 2019 disqualification reverse to Liverpool’s David Price, and a win will throw him into the mix of a lively domestic scene that features Daniel Dubois, Nathan Gorman and Fabio Wardley.

Salek will be a real test for the British fighter though, having knocked out 13 opponents in 15 wins, with only two defeats on his record. Chief support sees a competitive Midlands Area Welterweight Title fight between Wolverhampton’s Conah Walker, 8-0-1 (2), and Levi Ferguson from Walsall, 5-1. More undercard details will be revealed shortly.

Dennis Hobson said: “I’ve been working with my partner Steve Crump, who is fantastic. We’ve got a great team together, and there’s been so much work going on behind the scenes over the last couple of months. Our plans are going to change the landscape of British boxing, and give many more opportunities for the fighters out there, and for the fans to see regular, live shows with competitive title fights.

“The headliner for our second show on May 28 is one I’m really looking forward to. The heavyweights in the UK are on fire at the moment, and I believe Kash Ali has a big part to play in that, and beyond. This fight against Salek is a really dangerous one though. It’s a massive opportunity for both of them to make a name for themselves on the European scene, and whoever wins will put their name right in the frame for some huge fights.

“Salek’s record proves that he is a real threat, he’s a knockout puncher but we have confidence in Kash’s ability. He works really well with his trainer Richard Towers, is improving constantly, and we believe we’ll see a career-best performance from him.”

No idea. He's been going with different ones. Not sure the Eurosport was long term.

He's used FreeSports previously too.

Press Release

Heavyweight action heads up Dennis Hobson and Steve Crump’s Fight Academy card on May 28 at Sheffield Arena Car Park.

Rotherham’s Kash Ali will seek to become the IBF European Champion when he clashes with Czech Tomas Salek for the vacant title. With a solitary disqualification loss on his 19 fight record, Ali is ready to step up against the East European. Salek is a come-forward banger, who has tasted defeat just twice in 17 contests and, with 21 big KOs between them, this promises to be a ‘don’t blink’ affair.

Kash Ali, said: “He can whack, and I know I have knockout power. I think this is going to be a case of whoever lands first will get the KO – and I can promise you it’ll be me!”

Chief support comes in the form of a Midlands Area Title fight with Wolverhampton’s Conah Walker and Walsall’s Levi Ferguson going head-to-head for the vacant crown. A well-matched affair – Conah has eight wins and a draw, with two KOs; Ferguson has been only beaten once in six – this 10-rounder promises to be keenly contested as both look to pick up their first belt.

“An Area Title is a fantastic achievement for any boxer,” said promoter Hobson, “I’d love to have one sitting on my mantlepiece! I’ve put on lots of Area contests over the years and you see how much it means to the boxers. This is a real 50-50 fight, both boxers will give it their all to come out on top, and it won’t fail to be great viewing.”

The pick of the undercard sees a return to action for hot, undefeated middleweight prospect, Mark Jeffers 11-0 (3), who takes on well-regarded Czech fighter Tomas Bezvoda, 9-14 (6) in a decent test. Belfast’s Ciaran McVarnock, 10-0-1 (3), will also make a two-year ring return after taking time out from the sport to support partner Nicole, who has had her own fight with cystic fibrosis.

Also on the bill are a trio of undefeated Lancashire fighters – Josh Holmes 5-0, Dan Catlin 5-0 (2), and Zak Miller 3-0 (1); whilst Burnley’s Reece Farnhill and Blackburn’s Jack Fay will take their first steps in a professional ring.

Manager Kevin Maree – who guides Jeffers, McVarnock, Holmes, Catlin, Miller, Farnhill and Fay – stated: “In these crazy times, there aren’t many managers getting their fighters out and I can’t thank Dennis, and partners, enough that my guys are getting showcased.

“Dennis does his events right and they’re always exciting events. A few of my fighters have been signed by Dennis after appearing on his December show, and I’ve said to my other boxers ‘now it’s your time to shine, go out and impress Dennis and earn yourself a contract.”

time, date, TV channel, undercard, schedule, venue, betting odds, predictions

Date

The bout takes place on Friday, May 28.

Venue

Sheffield Arena Car Park, Sheffield.

Rounds scheduled

10x three-minute rounds at heavyweight (200+lbs).

Titles

The vacant IBF European heavyweight title is up for grabs.

Ringwalks

The ringwalks for the main event are expected from 10pm UK time, but that will depend on the undercard results.

TV Coverage

Coverage starts live on the Fightzone TV at 5:25pm for the undercard and 7:25pm for the main event.

Price

Subscription to Fightzone TV costs £4.99 per month - Sign up HERE

Undercard Highlights

There's another title fight on the bill, as undefeated Wolves warrior Conah Walker (8-0-1, 2KOs) challenges for the vacant Midlands Area welterweight title against Walsall's Levi Ferguson (5-1).

Ferguson fought for this same belt in his last fight, losing to Kaisee Benjamin 94-98 on points. Those 10 championship rounds will put him in good stead for this second shot at the silverware but he has only managed to defeat journeyman so far in his career, and confident Conah Walker has scalped a couple of winning fighters already.

It's an evenly-matched contest, very likely to go the full distance, as this pair only have two knockouts between them over 15 fights.

Keep an eye out for Mark Jeffers too, who is the current Central Area super-middleweight champion. At only 23, unbeaten in 11 contests with a good amateur pedigree behind him, he looks a promising prospect - one to keep an eye on.

Predictions

Tim Rickson, BBN Editor: “I know a lot more about Kash Ali than I do Tomas Salek, who has a frightening KO count. Ali is a former Central Area titleholder and has a height and reach advantage, so I think he will be able to outbox the Czech to win on points, with the possibilty of getting the KO if it comes.”

Yes that right uppercut was lovely, must have landed dozens of them. Also impressed with Fightzone. I think it's just what the small hall game needs.

I've subscribed to fightzone but find it painful to watch. I find it is constantly buffering. Has anybody else experienced the same problem or is it my PC?
