I really think dinners with Dana and being part of the Canelo show has gone to his head a bit. Matchroom Media is going to ruin his 'mate' Kugan.
The top US promoters are domestic promoters...Eddie's got to be careful he doesnt spread himself too thinly...the bread and butter should be the uk

Haines looked great then badly wobbled. He’s young but unless he finds power the top boys at 130 will walk through him and stop him.

Good point re Ogogo.....but Conlan and Quigley represented Ireland in the amateurs, so slightly different...there are a host of Northern Irish fighters who signed up to US promoters...Wayne McCullough being the prime one.mickey1975 wrote: ↑31 May 2021, 07:52Michael Conlan and Anthony Ogogo and Jason Quigley.stujones wrote: ↑31 May 2021, 07:14It could bite him on the arse though. I was thinking more like Khan, Harrison, Joshua, Joyce, DeGale these were huge in the UK after their Olympics...it seemed never considered for them to sign with a US promoter. Still got to build them in the UK and got to get them to headline fights in packed venues with good TV....not think being the under card to Canelo is the best achievement. Take away finances, I'd have to think twice now about who to sign for cos whilst US exposure is good, you dont want too many fights as the away fighter....and yes you will have the promoters backing but I remember Naz never truly excelling in the states.
Even with Ogogo... it was supposed to be part of Golden Boy becoming international, that didn't work and he ended up on loads of matchroom bills.

Naz cracked the states. 'Here on business'. His performances weren't the best, though. He did have virtually the rest of the world to fall back on as well.
Re: Devin Haney vs. Jorge Linares - 29 May 2021
The UK needs a two tier promoter setup.
One or two promoters doing small hall stuff, weeding out the chaff and putting on close fan friendly matchups within the UK and Europe. Then the big fish swoops in and gobbles up the cream that rises to the top and take it to the international stage.
The big fish focuses on title fights and relationships with other top world promoters to get deals done.
The little fish focus on getting young guys proper experience, with real challenges so they don't fall on their arses when it comes to title time.
Fixed, your welcome

Yes that's why away wins are nearly always considered by guys on here as the best wins...most fighters lose something going to the states....no matter how much they are the "home promoters boy"...Froch, Hamed, DeGale, Witter, Groves are just the some of the guys who looked poorer.... even Fury non Wilder US performances have been flawed.mickey1975 wrote: ↑31 May 2021, 10:04 Naz cracked the states. Yes weve had some fighters have career best wins in the states...e.g. Brook, Honeyghun...but not many have done it consistently to show they fight better in the US climate. Ricky Hatton has 2 outstanding US performances....but he also had some drab ones where he looked like he lost something
You might get more money fighting on a Canelo undercard than topping a smallish hall in the UK, but chances are your performance will suffer
Re: Devin Haney vs. Jorge Linares - 29 May 2021
Simple reason for that ,, In the states there more likely to demand you fight someone of equal ability ,, There not gonna let a overseas star cherry pick like they do in Britainstujones wrote: ↑31 May 2021, 20:14Yes that's why away wins are nearly always considered by guys on here as the best wins...most fighters lose something going to the states....no matter how much they are the "home promoters boy"...Froch, Hamed, DeGale, Witter, Groves are just the some of the guys who looked poorer.... even Fury non Wilder US performances have been flawed.mickey1975 wrote: ↑31 May 2021, 10:04 Naz cracked the states. Yes and No...I know what you are saying but still I think fighters lose something by travelling...fans, climate, homesick etc.coneye wrote: ↑31 May 2021, 20:46Simple reason for that ,, In the states there more likely to demand you fight someone of equal ability ,, There not gonna let a overseas star cherry pick like they do in Britainstujones wrote: ↑31 May 2021, 20:14Yes that's why away wins are nearly always considered by guys on here as the best wins...most fighters lose something going to the states....no matter how much they are the "home promoters boy"...Froch, Hamed, DeGale, Witter, Groves are just the some of the guys who looked poorer.... even Fury non Wilder US performances have been flawed.mickey1975 wrote: ↑31 May 2021, 10:04 Naz cracked the states. The ancient Glengoffe Johnson was no better than Pascal and Bute but Froch laboured....Would the Ricky Hatton who out boxed Ben Tackie had a life and death struggle vs Collazo... would the switched on Fury vs Chisora got floored vs Cunningham.....And off course the Joshua who fought Klitschko was a different animal than the sleepy one who fought Ruiz like in football Sheffield United are more likely to beat Man City at home than vs Away.
