David Lemieux vs. David Zegarra Set For June 4 in Cuernavaca

Despite the current epidemiological situation, Eye of the Tiger Management and D&D Boxing will stage a show at the Holiday Inn in Cuernavaca, on Punching Grace, on June 4th.

This card, presented by La Queen and Mise-O-Jeu, will be marked by the return to the ring of three crowd favorites, David Lemieux (42-4, 35 KOs), Simon Kean (19-1-0, 18 KOs) and Erik Bazinyan (25-0, 19 KOs).

In addition, rising US stars Samuel Arnold III (1-0-0) as well as twin brothers Antonio Perez (pro debut) and Angel Perez (pro debut) will have their first fight under the aegis of both EOTTM and D&D Boxing.

“David, Erik and Simon are on the doorstep of world title fights. It is therefore crucial for us to keep them active with quality opponents. In addition, our association with D&D Boxing allows us to secure young talents such as the Perez twins and Samuel Arnold III. The latter are among the most coveted American prospects and we are fortunate to have them on our team. They are tigers who will bring strong emotions to boxing fans for many years to come,” said Eye of the Tiger Management’s president, Camille Estephan.

Although his fight was called off on April 17, Lemieux does not have to wait long before hitting the ropes again. He will have a good challenge to face as he faces tough Peruvian David Zegarra (34-4, 21 KOs).

Bazinyan will face Scott Sigmon (35-14-1, 18 KOs), who gave some trouble to none other than Roy Jones Jr., the double amateur world champion Matvey Korobov and ex-USBA middleweight champion Luis Arias.

The two proteges of Marc Ramsay will therefore have to be cautious during their respective duels in order to continue their ascent.

Kean will face contender American Donald Haynesworth (16-5-1, 14 KOs) in a fight scheduled for 8 rounds. The latter is known for his aggressiveness and great power that he manages to generate with both hands.

i have never heard of zegarra before, without even looking him up, im guessing that 34-4 is massively padded

ya, im sure everyone whos seen don haynseworth was r eally in awe by the great power that he manages to generate, rather than his well honed ability to flop to the canvas

Juan and David Zegarra were some of the best offensive talents of the last 2 decades out of Peru. But the promoter there spoiled their talent keeping them in peru to headline tv events and without challenging them. They were promoted along side of Astuvilca & Zambrano.

David ended up fighting softies and then was thrown in with top opponents outside Peru who were bigger than him...

Sad because offensively, they were massive talents. Almost RJJr esque offensively. Spectacular skills, great balance... nasty hook...

lemieux underperforms in Mtl/Qc so never know but this looks like a set up for a BIG KO by lemieux... My prediction is a shot behind the head causes a nasty KO.

David Lemieux Plots To Make a Big Statement Against Zegarra in Mexico

Former IBF middleweight champion David Lemieux has a lot to lose this Friday night, when he returns to the ring as part of Eye of the Tiger Management's card in Cuernavaca, Mexico.

Lemieux does not hide it: he wants to make a big statement in his fight against Peruvian boxer David Zegarra. But the 32-year-old Quebecer has, once again, no room for a lackluster performance.

"I can't lose and I have to prove I shouldn't be in the same ring as him," Lemieux (42-4, 35 KOs) said to Radio Canada.

"I care about what I'm going to bring to the table. I want to give a nice big performance, to prove to the world where I am. I want, when the rankings update, to get myself in a position to get a world championship. I want to send a good message to Zegarra. I want to show where I am."

In his third fight at 168 pounds, Lemieux (42-4, 35 KOs) can not wait for another opportunity to fight for a world championship, almost four years after his fight one-sided loss to then WBO middleweight champion Billy Joe Saunders .

Zegarra (34-4, 21 KOs) is looking to upset the odds by pulling off a big upset of his own.

Meanwhile, Lemieux is not being neglected by the sanctioning bodies. After all, he still holds the No. 3 contender positions under the World Boxing Association (WBA) and World Boxing Organization (WBO), in addition to being in the number two spot under the World Boxing Council (WBC).

Also in action on the Mexico card, heavyweight Simon Kean (19-1, 18 KOs) will return to the ring after a hiatus of more than 16 months. Kean will face Donald Haynesworth (16-5-1, 14 KOs), in a fight scheduled for eight rounds.

David Lemieux Crushes Zegarra in Two Rounds, Simon Kean Wins

Eye of the Tiger Management (EOTTM) presented its Friday card in association with La Reine des Bières, Mise-O-Jeu and Videotron at the Holiday Inn hotel in Cuernavaca, on Punching Grace and Indigo’s networks.

This event featured the return of former IBF middleweight champion David Lemieux.

Faithful to his habits, Lemieux put the pressure on from the very first bell on David Zegarra, who showed good defensive movements in his upper body during the first round.

On the other hand, Lemieux managed to send his opponent to the canvas towards the end of the first round. Saved by the bell, Zegarra began the second round without fully regaining his senses.

Lemieux felt his opponent was weakened and wanted to finish the job quickly by jumping right on him.

Lemieux still kept up the pace and managed to close the show by sending Zegarra down two more times in the second round - for the knockout win.

As for the second main event of the evening, Simon Kean faced Donald Haynesworth jr. Both boxers have excellent punching power and are used to being very aggressive.

From the first moments of the fight, however, Haynesworth seemed to want to let Kean work by maintaining a good defense, thus exhausting him. However, Kean used a more cunning tactic by varying his attacks to the body and the head to manage to put an end to the hostilities at the end of the fourth round, when Haynesworth’s corner threw in the towel.

The new trainer of Kean, Vincent Auclair seemed satisfied with the progress of his pugilist and intends to have Simon box again very quickly while continuing their collaboration.

In addition, Erik Bazinyan was in a championship fight while he was staking his NABA title while also being able to get his hands on the NABF super middleweight belt and thus hoping to slip into the WBC’s top 15 world rankings.

He had before him a solid veteran in Scott Sigmon. He has already offered excellent performances against Matvey Korobov and Roy Jones. However, Bazinyan was dominant from the start to the end of the fight. He showed excellent technique and the ref had to stop the contest in second round to save Sigmon, allowing Erik return to Quebec with his two belts.

At the start of the evening, Martine Vallieres Bisson was very dominant against the Mexico's Maricruz Gomez Soto. Vallieres signed a victory by way of a referee stoppage in the first round, since Gomez sustained a serious cut on the eyebrow in addition to having quite a serious nosebleed.

Who knows where Lem’s career is going.

He’s too big for 160 but too small for 168..

LeMieux has always been good value as a pro boxer. He always comes to fight, giving his all win, lose or draw. He was never destined to be top shelf but he is well known for action fights.

I would not be surprised if he received another shot before long.

Different weight classes.

Eubank Jr. has already said that he has no intention to return to 168lbs, unless mega-money is involved.

And even if they did fight, the Brit would dominate Lemieux at 160lbs.

Lemieux goes the distance against the likes of Maksym Bursak and Karim Achour, but you think he'd "destroy Eubank Jr. in a couple of rounds"?
