We will probably never know for sure, but it's certainly possible. I have a book with a 1966 copyright, which says he had 89 amateur fights by the summer of 1940, and had won them all.

There are multiple losses are on record, pasquale patsy pesca and billy graham (both fighting as walker smith jr), maybe your weak source didnt get the fights under all his names

like many 'reported' am records his 85-0 or even 89-0 claim is phony, one of boxing long repeated myths. this isnt a 'never know issue'. the people who say that simply dont want to acknowledge the truth

doesnt make srr any less great, but let's not be easy marks for these nonsense record claims. don currey's 404-4 is another of the famous fakes

We don't know if that is right. The book I read came out just a year after he retired as a pro. It was less than 30 years after he fought as an amateur. Think about it. There would be many people a live who would have challenged this.
It would be like if fighter just retired amateur career was off. People. would point it out.

The Boxing Register Hall of Fame book mentions Graham and Robinson. It says that "legend has it" he beat Robinson at the age of 11, making Robinson 12 at the most. Robinson did not start boxing at until he was 13.....

We really don't know exactly Robinson's amateur record was. He certainly had well more than 31 wins which is what the boxrec data lists.
