A Fond Hello to Heavyweight Contender JD Chapman's Return, Now 30-0, 26 KO

Post by BroughtonRulesRefuge »

- Fought a boxrec ranked Tony Lopez after 13 years absence on 4 days notice as a touted, undefeated heavy contender.

When is Boxrec gonna update his record with a ranking?

Does anyone remember when this guy was a regular topic on the forums?

There was even a fight made on the forum here between JD and John Carlo when Carlo and Chapman's handler/trainer (Stacy Goodson) began a back and forth in one of the threads. Carlo beat Goodson and then lost to Chapman.

Insane that he built-up that record, probably earned $0 doing so, and then decided to retire without cashing out. David Haye challenged him, and he was like "I'm not just going to decline. I'm going to literally vanish off the face of the Earth. That's how ashamed I am to decline your challenge. I just realized that I have no business boxing anyone for any reason. Thank you for making me come to my senses. I realized that if you hit me, it would hurt; and then suddenly I understood that if anyone hit me, then that would also hurt, so I'm out."

- Sugar Pops kiddie history for you is it?

Don't claim insider info, but the story went JD would make a career purse in Dubai, 300K, but got stiffed with 10% and quit. Notice also his Wiki page has been changed, but his longtime trainer, Michael Moorer and he split before the bout for reasons unknown to me. Moorer was the headliner on that card who had KOed Rich Boruff previously that JD duplicated, so Moorer was still an active fighter as well as trainer.

Pinky Toe Haye was a month away from the Macca fight that made him the darling of England, but he was completely provincial with no $$$ behind him to made a credible offer to anyone. I remember it as a joke since Pinky had been flapping his big Haney lips about cleaning out the heavy division to unify all the belts, so he was immediately offered a title shot by the WBA vs then undefeated WBA champ Chagaev that he turned down post haste. Finally he lured in ancient Monte Barrett who tripped over the top rope making his entrance to fall on his face that set the tone of his heavy debut. He put Pinky in clubfighter hell for the rounds he lasted, a mighty fine reason for Pinky to turn down Chagaev.

JD was 24 yrs old and generated a lot of press mostly on his potential and trainer Moorer who was the kind of guy who suffered no fools save Looney Uncle Teddy, but that's a separate story. I'd imagine as the darling of the midwestern circuit, Goodson paid JD well as a former Toughman competitor like Tommy Morrison who did quite well for himself as did Butterbean who has his Fat Lar scalp as his trophy centerpiece.

I'd gather JD has a family and realizes the sheer financial lucre now available w'er by exhibition or commish authorized fight. He might be able to triple his career Big Truck Driver earnings, but you'd have to ask him as he has yet to really make his intentions known.

Might already be able at 294 lbs to KO what's left of Deyonce at this point in the ephemeral boxing landscape :TU:

Not sure -- most people from a decade or more ago don't seem to post any longer. There used to be quite a few active boxers, managers, trainers, etc. that posted both on the current scene as well as the british scene.
